This spot is so unique. I definitely recommend either reading about the history before you visit or asking one of the waiters/waitresses. It has a very unique atmosphere and usually a band is present making the experience just that much more enjoyable. The steak is delicious, and you can't go wrong with the stuffed baked potato.

I came here with really no expectation of how this place is because I was craving steak and the price looked great! Well it took me by surprise, it is a dive bar/ steak house. No need to dress up fancy or anything. Put my name on the wait list and grabbed a drink at the bar where people were karaoke and singing happy birthday. It was pretty loud in there so don't expect no fancy dinner date lol. The vibe itself was actually pretty fun. I tried their espresso martini and man was that strong! lol I did not need seconds.I ordered the New York steak, came with salad, my choice of baked potato's and a side of mushroom! Everything was really delicious !! Also gave us a side of garlic toast. The food did take awhile to come out so just a heads up. Overall, pretty fun place to be on a weekend and I'll definitely come back when I'm craving steak!

This review is over several visits in the past 6 months. Do not be fooled by the cheesy, IHOP looking building. Thankfully this restaurant has no windows and has a cave vibe - for it is an old school steakhouse, complete with wood paneling, colored glass, and red leatheresque dining booths. It really does feel like you've stepped into another world. The service here is always top notch, even when they're busy. Chris is usually my server and he is absolutely amazing and food comes out fairly quickly from the kitchen. Sometimes, if you're lucky, there will be a two piece band and some older singers that round out the vibe of this place!Tonight I had the side salad, some garlic toast, and the burger, as I wasn't that hungry (lol). The burger actually comes out exactly as I order it - medium rare - and I can actually taste the flavor of the beef. I usually get the steak and fried shrimp which is also always cooked as I order it. Now this isn't Flemmings, but also isn't at that price point either, and everything is just a little better than one would expect. From the garlic toast, the thousand island dressing on my salad, and the fried shrimp, etc, there is that little something extra in the flavor that I love and have come to expect from this place. The one downside of this place (that they have no control over and so is not reflected in my star rating) is parking in this area is ROUGH. I recommend an Uber to avoid dealing with it. Other than that, it's an institution that shouldn't be missed!

First time here and we were not disappointed! Our server Cynthia did a great job in taking our order and keeping our drinks full. She told us a little bit of history about the business and made some awesome recommendations. I got the petite filet mignon and lobster. My steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection and my lobster was delicious and buttery! We were able to find parking right in front but can tell it can be tricky on a weekend. It wasn't too loud and it was a little dark when we first walked in but we will definitely be back soon!

It's been a long time since I've been to Red Fox. This is the first time I ever been at the updated place. It still has the same decor but it's nice because it no longer smells old. Ralph the bartender was very kind and friendly. I loved and appreciated that they had live entertainment. ( Piano playing) We enjoyed the beverages and music!! !

I don't get this place - it's supposed to be a San Diego landmark, everybody tells me it's great, and I bring people from out of town - - and it was freaking awful. The outside is very deceptive because it looks like a new building, but the inside is dark and dingy - with decor from the early 70's. It's the type of place where you fear your feet sticking to the floor. The service was great, but the steaks and sides - I've had far better at Ponderosa. My guests were shocked on how tough and chewy the meat was - beyond sub-Choice. I think this place is mostly for an elder crowd - my grandparents used to take me to a similar place when I was a kid. It's probably a great place to hang out if you are 55+, but as for being a Steakhouse - - needs some help. I walked out embarrassed, and it was way overpriced for sub-choice steaks.

Well this is definitely going to turn into my new go to spot for a steak after our first visit over the weekend. After driving past this spot many times my boyfriend and I decided for date night that it was time to give it a shot and we were so happy with our decision to go. Everyone talks about how great the service is here and they are right, every server in there is checking in on you and refilling your water any time it gets low, it makes you feel like you are never really waiting for anything which is awesome. The meals are huge so come hungry! The salads are super tasty with their house made dressings they taste super fresh. I went with the filet and a loaded baked potato and they were amazing!! We did get to enjoy some live music as well which was the cherry on top, I can not wait to come back!

Is it the British history/theme that makes me such a fan of The Red Fox? I'd say at least partially. Is it the homemade blue cheese salad, always served on cold plates, that keeps me wanting more? That's a resounding yes. But is it the delicious cheese bread and steaks that bring me the nostalgia Sizzler feeling from my childhood? ABSOLUTELY! The hand-cut prime steaks and cheese bread are much better than Sizzler, but you get the point. Oh and don't forget to ask for the creamy horseradish!!!If you come here during the right time, you'll find live music afoot. It's always a great time when the piano is going. Service can be a little slow, as they do run a pretty lean operation in the front of the house. On this night we had a filet and a sirloin and both were really good. Although we asked for medium on both, the middle of the filet was med-rare. It wasn't a big deal though as my lady just finished the few pieces, by heating them through the next day.If you haven't come for the atmosphere of this Ye old steakhouse, I'd highly recommend it. Say hi to Jim for me.Thanks Red Fox!
