The Lower Tavern

On a bustling Friday night, we wandered into a lively scene at Lower Tavern, where karaoke filled the air and the place was buzzing with energy. As visitors to the island, it was the perfect introduction. They also had a large assortment of alcohols ranging from wines to cocktails. The friendly staff and good late-night food certainly left a lasting impression. Lower Tavern has earned a spot on our must-visit list for future trips.

Burger and accompanying soup were legit - great veggies, good sized patties. Service was decent considering summer traffic. Much better experience than the waterfront pub.

Ideal spot in Eastsound for a beer and something to eat, as long as you're not a dog or under the age of 21 (neither are permitted to enter).The Lower Tavern is an handsome local bar loaded with TVs on the walls and plenty of comfy booths and tables as well as a few tables in an enclosed patio area outside. We ordered a couple of nice IPAs on tap and went with the fish 'n chips -- one order of cod, the other of halibut. Since the boat carrying the tavern's french fries hadn't yet come in, the waitress substituted onion rings. Wise choice. The cod was moist and tasty and much better than the halibut, which seemed compressed and dried out.Great atmosphere, friendly service, and good food overall.

Word on the street is this is the best burgers in town! I didn't have a burger, but I got the buffalo chicken sandwich on sourdough, it was really good! My husband got a burger and said it was seriously legit! Service was very friendly, it seems like a good old boys place, not very swanky, not very posh, but super friendly, and looks like a great place if you want to go play pool and have a couple beers and hang out. I think it's just beer and wine here and no spirits, but still a relaxed environment where I think a lot of locals hang out.

Was dying to watch the NBA playoff and was in Eastsound and I just knew that the lower Tavern would have it on a big screen! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had the Cline Zinfandel, and it was just so yummy! I didn't get a picture, but we also had the chicken strips with three different sauces to dip it in. I thought the chicken was good enough without the dip! They piled six large pieces on top of a mound of fries. This was such a great appetizer to share! My family wasn't too into the basketball game so they played pool while I watched the game.... worked out perfectly! Jack was our server, and he did a great job! Cozy, warm, fun, not fancy atmosphere! Love this place

Where the locals go.Looking for some casual comfort food? Head to the lower tavern.Came by when I had some time to kill before the evening ferry and was psyched to see their selection of local beers! Ordered a K. Pod Kölsch from island hopping brewery and got some work done with their free wifi.Their food is generously portioned and comes out fast and hot! I love Reubens and theirs was on point. Ordered the Reuben with fries and was very satisfied.Would definitely recommend stopping by if you're looking for some casual pub food. Maybe challenge a local to pool?Not a bad way to wait out ferry delays!

Their well was broken so only canned stuff while we were there, and busy but good ish food for being the slow/winter season.

This was perfect after a long day of hiking! Staff was friendly, burger on local sourdough and special ham/mozzarella on local sourdough were both great. Good portions were really good, especially for the prices. The only trouble was that they were short staffed, so it took a while to wrap stuff up.

Super great experience here! they were busy but still the service was great and super fun to hang out in there! the food is reasonably priced and the burger options are endless!! great for a hearty bite! not pictured is the cesar that was also great!!

There's the places for the tourists, and the places for the locals. This is definitely the locals' hangout. Staff was nice enough but (as a tourist) I felt out of place. Good cheap beer, though.
