The Local

So I heard this place was a different bar and grill, and it burned down from a really bad fire. Not sure it was a rumor or not, but all I know is that two women opened up this sports bar, and they have karaoke on Thursday nights hosted by KJ Ana. When I saw one of the owners post on Facebook months ago, when they just opened asking the community to come out to support, and I heard they have karaoke nights, I thought I would totally support them with a girls night out. I just live down the street. It's a pretty sketchy area. My daughter also reminded me as we drove up, was that's a couple feet from where she was attacked/sexually touched while she was walking her dog, and no one in the street/in car helped her. The cops found him and arrested him. Plus there are some crazies that scour the parking lot, some a couple times one of us gals would check to make sure these wanderers weren't trying to do anything to our vehicles. When you walk up to the entrance of the Local, which is right next door to Dollar Tree, it doesn't look like much, and it looks small. But as soon as you get inside you're pleasantly surprised by how enormous this place is. Modern decor, the high barstools, the cozy couch on the corner, electronic dart games, cornhole game, billiards, TV screens all around, and karaoke nights on Thursdays at 730pm hosted by KJ Ana.Our server was attentive, and really took care of our large party. She even offered us shots, which was so sweet. None of us drank, and the ones that do already left for the evening. But it's the thought that counts. The food was good. I think after tasting a few of the food items, we liked the nachos the most. They give you huge portions of everything. I actually had to bring home my lemon pepper wings. It was a bit too dry for my liking. I think I'll try the ones with sauces next time. My daughter liked the burger and fries. All in all the menu is limited, and the food was fine for a sports bar. I gave five stars not because of the food or even alcohol since I didn't have any. It was for the fun night us 13 gals had on girls night out celebrating our friends birthday, the fun locals that came out for karaoke night, our wonderful server, Ana the amazing KJ host, and how there's so much to do. Plus seeing those rescue dogs there one that came from Korea slaughter house, the other abandoned and had a missing limb that pulled on my heart strings, this place deserves 5 stars. I know it's a sketchy neighborhood, but I hope with this new-ish place more locals will come to support these lady bosses, and we can clean up Kent. Now I want to check out their weekend brunch.Thanks for a fun night The Local.

Lol tried to go in for some late night snacks and the door was locked while the people inside watched me try and open the doors.Two stars cause it looked clean from the outside HAHA

Everything I have tried here has been very delicious. The service is amazing and the staff is very friendly. Great place to sit and do work on the laptop or sit a chat with a friend. The atmosphere in here gives off a good vibe.I recommend this place for brunch.

The service is always great, warm atmosphere, great vibes even better food and drinks!! The crunch from the freshly fried tortilla chips is something else!! The Chicken wings with sweet Thai chili sauce is soo yummy. Love this place.

Large portions, must have nachos for happy hour great fresh flavors crisp chips. Parking is hit or miss in the area, but worth the walk. Floor in the booth was sticky so definitely a greasy spoon vibe.

Awesome gem in Kent! My husband and I found this spot off yelp and decided to check it out to see if it would be a good spot to host a birthday get together!We felt so welcomed right as entered! Bailey was working and he helped us coordinate the setup for the birthday party. We genuinely loved the atmosphere and the vibes there. They have tons of games, tvs, great music, awesome food and incredible staff! We were able to meet the owner and she was so kind! We chose to host the birthday here and it was perfect. They kindly reserved a section of space for us and our guests and were so attentive! We ordered the nachos and it was split by so many of us. Portions are big and yummy! We will absolutely be back and strongly suggest checking this place out!

The service here was pretty great. We went on a slow Thursday night and they had karaoke. Only four people singing made it a good time to try out new songsThe Mexican candy shot was so good!

Bartenders are great. When I went there it looked like it just opened up. Lots of potential and space. This was probably about a month or two ago during a weekday evening.Definitely a diverse crowd..some interesting people for sure. Some man who appeared to look homeless (don't want to assume he was) brought in his yappy chihuahua who was running around barking. Is that even allowed? That was weird.Also really old men tried talking to my sister and I. I just wasn't having it that day and told him off. ‍

After they opened up last year, my hubby and I checked it out. We had been loyal happy hour patrons of The Clubhouse before they sold it. We felt like fish outta water. The prices went up, the seating was not nearly as accommodating as before, and we didn't know a soul in there. No longer a dive bar but a hipster bar. It's great if you like hipster trendy bars, but many 50+ folks like a good one dive bar. We found one in Kent Valley, but we sure do miss our old haunt.

My boyfriend and I checked out The Local for a quick date night last week. It looks really cool and modern from the outside, and there's string lights over the patio space... Exactly our kind of spot! Was surprised to find the bar is a huge open room, not segmented in any way. Pretty cool though! There's dart boards, televisions, juke boxes, and more. Plenty to do. There's also really nice couch seating if you're looking to just relax. We split the nachos and when I say that two other people could've dined with us, I'm not kidding. The portion was insane! They weren't anything mindblowing, but they were a good tipsy snack. They also do brunch on the weekends which I definitely want to check out. Overall, it's a great little local watering hole. We'll be back!
