The Layover Grill

I really wanted to like this place. Most of the bad reviews were right. I took two bites and went and got food somewhere else. Unlike the other reviews mine didn't seem salty but the bun is all wrong for a Philly it was soggy and the meat was chewy texture wasn't right. Not sure if there was actually cheese on it either. Just disappointing.

The owner was super friendly. Gave me a great recommendation on some amazing brisket that was so moist it literally melted in my mouth. The Carolina bbq sauce was incredible. Mac and cheese was just ok. But definitely all worth the price! Very clean and sanitary looking building. Will be back soon

Salt. Not sure how much was used. Waaaay too much. If I was not starved I wouldn't have eaten it. My wife would not. The portion is disappointing. Bread reminded me of a hotdog bun. By a wide margin the most disappointing Philly steak sandwich I've tried.

Delicious 747 and the more simple sandwich. Very flavorful and hot ! Very clean inside. Easy parking. Friendly staff . Pricey though .

I stopped in for the first time today and their phillycheese was absolutely awesome! I had a craving for a good cheesesteak and they surely rose to the occasion! I will be back! I thought it was well worth it!

I really wanted to like this place. It's mom and pop, has some fun celebrity pictures with the cheesesteaks and quirky little airplane stuff. Staff is super nice. And the Top Gun is well worth the value paid for the amount of meat and cheese. But the Buns are awful. Like...hot dog Buns bit soggier. Spend a little more on quality rolls and you've got a banger. And somebody, for the love of all that is holy, take the salt shaker from the cook. If they would improve the roll to so.ething bigger and hardier and laid off the salt this would be a solid 5 star hole in the wall cheesesteak shop. I'll try back in a couple months to see if they actually read their reviews and make some changes.

Price is way too high for what you get. The Philly i got cost me around $17 after adding onions (which is a standard philly item and shouldnt be sold separately at an extra cost) and mushrooms. The bread was straight up inedible. Im pretty sure it was just a hotdog bun. either way, it was soggy and rubbery. The meat was okay, and its probably the only redeeming factor of the whole experience, which isnt saying much. It was super salty and a little bit chewy. I got my sandwich as a delivery and they just wrapped this soggy mess in tin foil and called it good. half the sandwich was just stuck to the tin foil when i unwrapped it. While i cant say this is the worst philly ive had in washington, its probably in my bottom 5.

Best cheese steak sandwich I had in washington. I found this spot when I was passing by and looking for a restroom to use. Will be coming back again for lunch. I should have taken a photo of the sandwich, but I ate all before realizing I should leave a review because it was so good.

BBQ is amazing but Phillies are not good and you get nothing for the price you pay. a few strips of meat on a hotdog bun for $14.50 give me a break. at least the BBQ filled you up and was delicious but he is not always there. don't waste your time on the phillies.

I'm so glad I found this place! The employees are awesome and the food is soooo yummy! I ordered the 747 and added mushrooms and jalapeños. Best Philly cheesesteak ever!!! 10/10 recommend!
