If you are a local in San Diego and love to talk wine (or beer or world travel or restaurants or soccer, or...) you MUST head down to the Grape Underground! Josh is the perfect host and his vision for what a wine bar should be must be experienced. If you want to tour the world of excellent and difficult to find wines Josh is your guy! Bring your own food and enjoy the patio or sit at the bar and learn more than you thought possible about wine and wine culture as you sip the best of the best. He offers charcuterie on weekends and wine-all-the-time!I'm from out of town and am planning my next San Diego trip just to come back. You locals are lucky to have The Grape Underground! Don't miss out! Go as soon as you can! You won't be disappointed.

I strolled over here from the Hyatt across the street late one afternoon. I had walked by the previous day after eating lunch nearby and noted their hours were 3-9 on Mondays. I arrived at 3:30 on Monday to see a closed sign so sat in the courtyard near their patio figuring maybe they were just a bit behind schedule. I noticed a couple drinking some wine in the patio and the owner setting up tables and umbrellas. I went back to the door and found it locked so I went back to the courtyard and sat for 45 minutes. It became apparent that perhaps they were not going to open at all, maybe a private event was going to happen? I had no clue so I left. The next night, Tuesday, my wife and I ate at Puesto across the courtyard and decided to go have some wine here after we ate. Even though the hours of 3-9 were posted on their door as well as online, we found it empty and closed at 6:30pm. There was no indication why.Peeking though the window it looks like a nice, small place to relax and enjoy some wine. The wine selections posted on the wall looks interesting. I would have liked to have spent some time here but they apparently just disregard their posted hours (supposedly open 3-9 except closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays....but obviously not the case) and you'll have to hope to be lucky to find them open. As a potential customer, I was put off by this experience although I'd still give them another shot if I'm ever in this part of San Diego again.

Cute little wine bar we stumbled upon near Seaport Village. Owner was very nice and spent a lot of time talking to us about the various wines. Great patio and atmosphere, can't wait to go back and try their charcuterie boards!

Cute spot with fair prices for top quality selections. I love the patio seating area... I think it's perfect for group gatherings or even to reserve a portion of it for a small event.

Perfect add to this area. Cozy, neighborhood wine bar with great selections, awesome staff, and a fun location. Both inside and outside seating options.Josh makes the best experience: thoughtful suggestions, deep knowledge, and great conversations.Charcuterie options for nibbles. Some non-alcoholic and non-wine options, too.Highly recommended.

12/7/23 - sign taped in window says "temporarily closed for license renewal". No date/s provided on when they closed or when they will be back open. I chose 3 stars because you can't post a review without selecting a rating.

Very rude and 0 customer service. Average wine you could probably buy at Costco for $15. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Also, when someone asks a question about a certain wine, try not to sigh and act arrogant like you have something better to do. I've had better service at the DMV.

Earn My Stars1. Location2. Design3. Service4. quality Food5. quality DrinksThis place gets stars for # 1-5. Josh and Mike are honest guys and love sharing their wine. Do a tasting and have them choose for you and you won't regret it. I haven't tried their charcuterie board yet but I'm sure it is up to the same standards as their wines. Jump on board their quarterly or monthly club and start receiving hand selected wines that don't exist on their menu. This is a great place. Enjoy. 1 star = bad2 stars = not good enough to come back3 stars = I'll come here if my company wants to 4 stars = I'll be there5 stars = this place is home

Josh and Diana are absolutely incredible! This was one of the stops me and my husband had on our honeymoon and they were so welcoming. I felt like I could have talked to them both all day! The vibe was incredible, the wine was some of the best I ever had and Josh really knew what he was talking about. We will definitely be back!
