I have dined here twice within 20 years and each time was perfection. I don't know why it has taken me so long to get back there but I'm sure glad I did. To start off, they give you fried Zucchini with butter instead of bread and butter. I asked for a side of Marinara to dip and they did (the butter was a weird pair up but that's just my opinion). We both ordered the Steak Sinatra which was absolutely delicious. My guest didn't care for the Sinatra Sauce so if you order it, just ask for the sauce on the side if you're nervous about it. I admit, a great steak doesn't need a sauce but this sauce is worth trying. I noticed other entrée's being served to tables and each one looked delicious. I'm looking forward to going back there.

Garlic lovers rejoice! The Godfather Restaurant had the strongest old fashioned I've ever had as well as the most garlicky foods I've ever had! Everything but the dessert was coated in garlic which I didn't mind however for those who have difficulty with it, I would highly recommend telling the server you would prefer without. Very attentive staff. Such a fun and novel experience to go to this restaurant! From the fountain outside the restaurant to the decor on all of the all, this place was an absolute blast. Of course we considered the cannoli dessert to honor the godfather movie however we went with the tiramisu, which was an excellent choice! I loved the zucchini chips, appetizer more than I anticipated. It was complementary with the meal! I would definitely go back and try anotheroption off the menu!

Very good food and clearly a step (or two or three) above the average Italian restaurant with excellent service and nice ambiance. We ordered calamari as appetizer but was also given a complimentary plate of fried zucchini. Too much food! Will be back for sure.

When you have the right server, it makes a huge difference. This time we asked that we have a table away from the offending server. That request means honored and our waiter was fabulous. He was attentive, gave us good suggestions and took care of our needs. For this meal, we had the trifecta: great food, great service and a special table that was a bit quieter than sitting in the center section of the restaurant. Thanks for making us feel special again.

This is my go to spot for celebrating any special occasion. The waiters are finely dressed tuxedo's, the restaurant is quaint and small with candles in each table. There is also a piano that provides soothing music while enjoying a phenomenal cocktail, meals, and after dinner cocktail or espresso.

I've been driving by this place for years but had never quite found an opportunity to visit until now. I'd recommend putting in a reservation in advance as they did get pretty busy rather quickly. On Clairemont Mesa in between Mercury and Convoy, the parking lot feels a bit small for the foot traffic despite the abundance of spots. Parking behind the building via the side passageway or doing street parking are options as well. The restaurant is very reminiscent of an older classy romantic dinner location, the sort you would find in movies. The staff were very attentive and polite. One of the best experiences I have had at a sit down restaurant.Meatball appetizer was a pleasing start with the fresh bread and fried zuchini. The Lasanga was delicious and reminded me of an old friend who had owned an Italian restaurant in North County. Spaghetti Carbonara featured a bold garlic flavor and hit the spot. The pancetta was perhaps a bit over, but it was still a fine dish.Unrelated note: as we were leaving, we were worried it had auddenly started raining outside, but the sound was just the water fountain outside the door.

Friday early lunch with the ladies. The dining room was quiet while we were there, maybe because they were resurfacing Clairemont Mesa Blvd? Anyway, no reservations but we were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. Zucchini appetizer and fresh bread & butter came out with our beverages. I was glad to see the zucchini at lunch! I wasn't sure if it was just a dinner thing. They did have 2 lunch specials. Our entree orders were taken and came out in good time. Iced tea and water refills were given. My lunch was delicious and I was very happy with my choice! I had the chicken Florentina. Another thing that I was happy about was that dessert was offered. I really hate when you go to a nice restaurant and after your meal it's "here's the check"! Maybe I want coffee, or tea, dessert, an after dinner drink.... This is a win for me and a larger check for the restaurant but for some reason it's not much of a thing anymore. The gracious service at The Godfather ensured we all got delicious desserts! The lemon white chocolate cake was divine! Thanks Godfather, we'll be back!

This dining experience was...comically underwhelming, to say the least. I am a born and raised San Diegan who thinks of Convoy Street as a second home. I never consider eating Italian food whenever I'm in the area (for good reason), but given the fact that this restaurant has been in business for so long, my interest was piqued. Pros: - Honestly, it's difficult to think of anything truly positive. - The complimentary fried zucchini, I guess Cons: - It is incredibly loud--I could barely hear my partner talk and we were sitting directly across from each other.- The free fried zucchini was a nice touch but did not save our dining experience. It was bland and I found it strange that it was served with a giant pat of butter. Huh? - Service was slow and inefficient--at one point we genuinely thought our server had forgotten about us. - The food was essentially Buca di Beppo, but worse in quality and exorbitant in price. I would say that we waited around half an hour for the food to come out, which is a long time for breaded veal and seafood pasta. - The veal= Lukewarm and tasted like it had been sitting in a warmer. No crispiness. The side of rigatoni bolognese that it came with tasted like something that would come out of a hospital cafeteria. It was straight up jarred Ragu. - The seafood pasta= An actual disgrace. Italy, I am so sorry. The sauce tasted like the liquid the seafood was boiled in. It's almost as if the chef took that seafood "broth" and added a tablespoon of cornstarch to give it some body. The seafood was horrendously overcooked and unseasoned. The noodles were soggy. The only way I could describe this dish is the phrase "doo doo clown mess." The check came out to $100+. I would gladly pay this amount at, say, a restaurant like Cesarina in Point Loma. But here? NO. I wanted to laugh at how awful this meal was afterward. I have generally been very picky about dining out at Italian American places (I always feel like I can make a cheaper version that is equally (if not more) satisfying), and I feel vindicated. My wallet is still reeling in pain from this meal.
