I have been here a few times for random items but this past visit I ordered the hot Italian sandwich. It was delicious but very small. I was impressed with the sandwich and eager to try more! Recommend for pickup beach lunch and you can grab a beer from the cold case while you wait!

This was an utterly unpleasant visit- My first unwelcoming encounter experience with what felt like racism. The moment I step foot into the step the elder lady behind the counter watched me & two friends like a hawk. Never greeted us or welcomed us. When I mentioned it was my first time stopping this particular store. She replied "I know. You don't look like you're from here". I felta little confused but tried to make small talk. I mentioned to her that I like the fact she had a happy hour going inside the market and told her I noticed the people outside enjoying a beer.. to which she proceeded to say "yeah, they aren't from here either. You can just tell.. I mean look at them", as if she as almost dissatisfied. This was a couple-of color. It was just an extremely uncomfortable presence to be inside there and thought: well, maybe this lady is just "having a bad day".At first, I didn't think much of it and we proceeded to buy a cheese. The rain started pouring right after so we sat in her front chairs. A few minutes passed & she came out and said "I'm going to need these chairs soon, so you guys can start thinking of getting up". There was no line nor anyone in sight. There was also more seating available, that's when I realized this was her way of kicking us out. All three of us are in our mid twenties and Latin descendants. To my surprise I found another yelp reviewer on here whoalso had a similar experience and background. After looking into more of the low scored reviews (which I encourage you to) I found they all had experienced some type of discrimination, specifically geared towards race. I felt compelled to a share my experience in hopes others will too. Truly disappointing to experience this in my new neighborhood.

Came for a quick lunch on Christmas eve. They have a good selection of sandwiches! I believe it was the owner who we ordered with and stopped by to chat with us during the stay. Very friendly and eccentric.I will say, 'you know you're in La Jolla when...' two deli sandwiches and a drink costs you about $45, haha. But they were definitely tasty. We got the spicy salami on focaccia bread and the Corner club on ciabatta. The spicy salami (warm sandwich) was more petite but is also super decadent so the portion makes sense. The corner club had generous portions and was my favorite between the two. They were both very gourmet, fresh, and with good quality ingredients. Not your basic sammy at all.

This is such a cute shop! We enjoyed speaking with the owner of this shop and the one next door and purchased some very unique international snacks we enjoyed. I definitely want to stop again next time I'm in La Jolla to try some things on the menu!

The Corner is amazing! After returning from the beach late, I'd gotten locked out of the kayak rental next door and Lisa at The Corner was kind enough to call the shop and they let me back in, shivering in the cold California winter, to change out of my wetsuit! I needed a big hot dinner after that. Their tri-tip sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. And yet the real kicker was their kickass zuchini bread. I've never had it before but it was so perfectly crusted and mildly sweet and spiced, like a banana bread with sort of pumpkin spice notes but with a hint of zuchini, I bought 3. I'm eating one right now and you should too.

Decided to stop here on my way home. The owner was so friendly and hospitable. This place is also incredibly dog friendly and told me the logo was of her dog. Love the outside seating area as well. Will definitely be coming here for a glass of wine sometime soon. I ended up getting a cold brew and a caprese sandwich. Wasn't a huge fan of my coffee but that's ok I'll try something else out next time. Sandwich was amazing though. 8.5/10 caprese sandwich would've loved a protein on it maybe I can add next time 6/10 Cold brew I also loved the events sign for the month of October

The Corner Mercantile & Eatery is a very convenient stop for those who need last minute food supplies for a day of kayaking or swimming at nearby La Jolla Shores. Parking is not easy in this area as everyone is looking for a spot before spending time at the beach. If you can make a quick run, then there is a 15-minute parking space across the street. The place had numerous shelves of dried goods. Next to the service counter was a refrigerated display of deli meats, cheeses, and salads. A small menu board was posted above and behind the register. A few small tables were available inside along with a large one right outside the front entrance. My goal was to pick up a sandwich on the go. I ended up choosing a chicken salad inside a French croissant. It came as two pieces with the tasty salad stuffed in the middle. The croissant was crispy and flaky. Perhaps the serving size could have been larger for the price. I gave my visit here a rating between three and four stars.

What can I say? We LOVE the Corner. Lisa is such an attentive and thoughtful owner. The breakfast sandwich and avocado toasts are our faves. The atmosphere is beautiful in sunny La Jolla. We will be back many times

The cozy ambiance invites you to linger, savoring not just the food but also the camaraderie shared with fellow diners. But beware, for Lisa's dry wit can catch you off guard, her piercing stare a playful challenge to keep up with her banter.
