The Causeway Restaurant

We went for Saturday dinner and realize that it was already very busy, although we k Lu waited less than 5min. The restaurant is very poplar among local people, apparently, since there are lots of table of families and with elderly people. So I feel it must have earned its reputation for a while. The food is amazing and great portion. As two girls travel from Boston area, the price here is so reasonable--- we literally spent $11 for a "bowl" of clam chowder that's twice the size of what you usually get in Boston. So very large portion, and affordable price. And the clam chowder--- it was SO GOOD! It was creamy, and aromatic, and full of clams. It came hot and you can tell it is full of fresh clams. The flavor is so nice that you can tell the aromatic cream while still appreciate the umami of the seafood. This is the best chowder I've had, for sure.We also ordered the seafood pasta--- same as the price and portion--- we are given a pan full of large scallops, mussels, octopus, shrimps. All simmered together in flavorful tomato sauce. Honestly we felt that the seafood takes up more space than the pastas, was very satisfying. I also had a haddock fish stew, also very solid and tomato-y. Came with crackers and full of shrimp. I ordered a cup of the stew and I feel the size is what we usually think as a bowl. In general me and my friend had a perfect meal here, so fresh and delicious. Would come back so sure! The service was prompt and friendly. I can tell that customers here all look satisfied (our neighbor was complimenting their fried calamari being very fresh!)

Very popular place! I actually walked here from Gloucester commuter rail station. It's a small restaurant so there can be a long wait, but I got takeout that came out quicker. Because the space is packed, it was quite warm inside. I don't think they turned on A/C and ran fans (not sure if that's the norm or I came on an off day). The kitchen is sort of half-open and looked extremely busy. Food coming out looked massive portion-wise, especially the fried seafood items - they were in a huge pile on a large platter. Definitely shareable. I got a fried cod sandwich with fries. The fried fish was very fresh and tender, perfectly done.

Read as 3.5 stars. Spot is extremely busy, expect to wait 20-40 mins for a table. Service is efficient and they are able to accommodate large crowds. BYOB.Food portions are huge and reasonably priced, flavors are a hit or a miss. The seafood chowder and the haddock sandwich were good. The clam linguine was bland.

This place is remarkable. Nina was our server and she started the five star experience. Fresh lobster with two side and fresh claim chowder all fantastic. Would highly recommend!

So good. So good. So good. BYOB. Outdoor dining available. Calamari appetizer with marinara. Stuffed lobster entree and fried scallops. Service was great. They provide setup for wine. Delicious. We had about an hour which was well worth the wait.

This place is excellent! My got the seafood marina it was enough for two people I got the clam plate which was more than enough for me. Yes we will be going back

Here you'll get really fast service and some really solid seafood. We got Pete's platter which can easily feed three or four people, with some of the tastiest clams I've had. I'd certainly recommend this place. It has exactly what you'd look for in this town! Fresh seafood and a happy, convenient meal.

"where the locals go". I had the seafood linguine. Shrimp, scallops, mussels and calamari. Absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked seafood in a very flavorful red sauce. My wife had the fish chowder. GF milk broth style loaded with haddock and potatoes. perfect!

The Causeway was hoppin' when we entered. We were lucky to get two seats at the small bar/counter, with a perfect view of the kitchen. Every employee from chefs, cooks, servers, etc. made sure the customers received their piping hot, appetizing food quickly. Although they never stopped moving, everyone was courteous and smiled. The "cup" of delicious fish chowder, served in a bowl, was filled with huge chunks of fish. It comes with traditional oyster crackers, but we dipped the bread in the broth. Oh so good! The huge shrimp, haddock, and clam platter with onion rings, cole slaw, and a side of fries tasted like the seafood came right off the boat. The light and flaky batter wasn't the least bit greasy. Make sure you check out the specials board before you order. It was undoubtedly worth the 45-minute drive to Gloucester.

Food was phenomenal. Service was great. We got whole lobster which came with two sides. Our waitress Nina had a great sense of humor. We would highly recommend.
