4.5That Awesome Taco Truck really lives up to its name! I found this food truck at the Adventure Science Center Way Late Play Date. They always have two food trucks at these events and I was very excited to see a taco truck this time. Event though I was there a bit early, they were open and happy to take my order. The menu had a variety of options and everything sounded amazing. These aren't your traditional tacos folks. It's Mexican food with interesting twists. The menu describes everything very well and the crispy chicken & carrot carnitas jumped out at me the most. The description: Crispy chicken & carrot carnitas with salted avocado, ranchy kale, pickled onions, and crispy pork skins. I mean...just yes. Give me now. I'll admit I'm not a huge vegetable person. I'm that adult that still won't eat her broccoli. So the kale scared me a bit. However, I'm trying to be better and everything else sounded so good so why not. My carnita was $7 (plus tax and tip). They had two beverage options, Topo Chico Mineral Water and Mexican Coke. I had a drink inside so I didn't get a drink. But these two options are always refreshing. My order was ready in under 5 minutes and I was offered hot sauce and limes. I passed because the carnita looked so good already. I will say for $7 I was expecting maybe a little more than one carnita. However, after thinking about it, food trucks are always a little pricier and the carnita had a lot of ingredients. If I was really hungry, it wouldn't be enough. I was just normal hungry so it was actually the perfect amount. There was some cilantro on the side so of course I sprinkled that on top. Now for the first bite. Holy flavor!!! The chicken was shredded and tossed in sauce. The carrots were mixed in with the chicken and were soft and soaked with flavor. The crispy pork skins add that contrast of crunch. The kale was disguised with the ranch and made me a kale believer. The cool ranch taste mixed with the spicier Mexican taste...incredible. I inhaled that carnita because it was so good. I want to just eat, live, and dream that carnita. In my mind I was like "I need to learn how to make these" but I know it would just be a disaster. Something like this can only be made by a taco magician. A real cooking wizard. If you see this truck, try it. If you're super hungry, maybe go for one of the bigger meals. If you're there for the flavor, try the carnita. You can also get an egg on the top so next time I'll try that. Because there will definitely be a next time!

$8 small greasy ground beef taco + 3 slices of radish and a bit of cilantro... seriously? I don't get it, it's not so much a price thing (which is indeed kind of bananas), but it's more a "I think I just got robbed" value thing

I only tried one taco here, so my review is not a complete picture of this taco truck by any means. I visited during Tomato Fest, and had dinner elsewhere before checking this spot out. Given the fantastic reviews, the small menu, and the adorable truck, I just had to try something from the taco truck. I went with the sweet potato taco, and tried their chipotle salsa on the side. The taco was really tasty, although incredibly pricey- $7 is a lot for just one taco. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I would pay the $7 for another one of the sweet potato tacos. I would, however, try a different taco or a quesadilla next time. The salsa was delicious and I would recommend trying it- not too spicy, but packed with that smoky chipotle flavor.

Very disappointing! Feel like a crime was committed - $17 for a lobster taco and $5 for an order of kids quesadilla. Wait was long but cooked fresh to order so okay then. They had run out of half their menu an hour into the event. No chicken, no chorizo. Finally get our order and was shocked. Look at the pictures and tell me if there was $17 worth of lobster there! It was mediocre at best. The quesadillas were inedible - there was an indiscernible amount of cheese and tasted horrible. We love Cheekwood but will be speaking to management about making sure this food truck will not be invited to future events. One star (the minimum review allowed) is too generous.

I LOVE everything about That Awesome Taco Truck. The food is fresh, flavorful and just so good! The street corn is a perfect starter or side. If the tamales are available -- get one! The tacos are satisfying and worth every penny. Definitely recommend.

Food was way over priced I liked the food but I'll never in my life will pay that much for a taco again that was crazy. $50 was just too much for 4 tacos 2 drinks and I'm not an ass so I left a tip, hopefully they change their prices soon. Good food though.

Ordered the chorizo and potato taco. The taco flavors were very good with the tortilla cooked perfectly. A little messy but very good. A great unique version of the traditional taco. I highly recommend added the egg. Chorizo and eggs together can never go wrong. I am curious to try some additional items next time I am visiting their food truck.

Stopped by while waiting for my food from another restaurant. My husband ordered the sweet potato al pastor taco this came with grilled pineapple, sweet potatoes ,collard greens, radish, onions, cilantro, jalapeños and salted avocado. We also ordered chips & salsa. Everything was delicious! The flavors, the sweet potatoes were cooked perfectly. I will say this is my number 1 vegan taco I've ever had. The salsa was SO good also. Total for the taco and chips & salsa was $14. One taco was $8. Not a fan of the price, but it was still so good. I gave 5 stars for the food not pricing. The owners were so nice and I love their logo. I will definitely go back.

Ehh tacos. Way over priced for what you're getting. Not terrible, but surely way better tacos throughout the city. The Lobster taco isn't worth the price you're paying for it nor is the quality there. (I'm from Maine originally) Wouldn't recommend this for anybody that's looking for tacos in the city. The owners kind of a jack ass. I know one of his old neighbors who over heard him bragging about how he over charges customers.
