I found Texican on Yelp. I was @ Target on Division (1200W) & Larrabee Ave looking for someplace to eat lunch today. I found Texican about 1/2 mile south @ 869 N Larrabee. Texican is a small storefront w/a limited menu. On entering Kim the owner told me they are in the process of remodeling the interior. After perusing the menu I ordered the Garlic Sautéed Gulf Shrimp Tacos. This comes on 2 corn tortillas topped w/chipotle cream, red cabbage, cilantro & Onions for $9.95. The gulf shrimp were nice & plumb. All of the ingredients were fresh & made to order. Since I was the only one in there around 2pm I had a chance to chat w/Kim while eating my Shrimp Tacos. I will be back to try some of the other items on the menu

This was a fantastic find for us. The breakfast tacos here are truly fantastic. It reminds me of one of my favorite breakfast spots back in LA called "Homestate". Chef Kim really nails it with the tacos here. Fresh, fantastic ingredients with wonderful textures and a variety of Tex Mex sauces on the side. I love, love, love this place and will be coming back repeatedly. Highlights for us were the chorizo breakfast tacos and the slow roasted carnitas tacos. She has flour and corn tortillas. The elote was also fresh to order.

What a cute little spot. Although they're not setup for indoor dining, the counter person (I'm thinking owner, but don't want to assume) allowed us weary travelers to sit. Our toddler is transitioning out of naps, and a car ride can be the ticket to lull him into dream land, so we were out running several errands. Yelp brought us to Texican as we were between REI and the Loop. Anyway, the aforementioned person was super friendly and accommodating. The boy ate up his quesadilla and I enjoyed my Austin street tacos made sans meat, thank you. While eating we saw lots of neighborhood people come in to pickup their food. The counter person greeted them with smiles and knew most of them by name. If we lived nearby, we'd all know each other by name too! Still I imagine we'll come back. Funny thing is we ran several more errands and the boy finally fell asleep when we were done and just about home. So we went to Binny's and picked up some mama & dada juice Sometimes it all works out, even though it looks as if it won't.

Really cute Tex-Mex restaurant tucked away on the west side of River North. Interior is very clean but pretty minimal, and a short menu with a few really solid options. Would be a good place for lunch or takeout but there's seating inside as well. The owner is a very kind lady who seems to run the entire place (ordering, cooking, serving) herself. There is self service refillable coffee. The breakfast tacos come in a pretty generous portion - the egg and potatoes are basically a omelette on a flour tortilla while the chorizo came out very pleasantly spicy. The top item on the menu is definitely the texas chilli mac, which comes as a pile of elbow macaroni covered in cheese and the Texas red chili. I thought the chili mac could have used a little more toppings and fewer macaroni - with how it came it was a heaping pile of plain macaroni and ended up being a dry. Portions were pretty large for the price point.

This place is a gem! I used to have a go to breakfast spot I went to frequently back in SoCal called Rooster Cafe and somehow this one seems to remind me of it. Small, hole in the wall, limited menu with emphasis on quality ingredients, execution, and strictly open for breakfast & lunch.PROS:-Showed up about 1pm on a Thursday. No line or wait. Sick.-Was craving breakfast and the chef in the back was more than willing to make me the green chorizo breakfast sandwich I was craving even though they typically only serve breakfast items up until 11am. Dope, but why not all day breakfast?-They serve La Columbe coffee. Didn't really mean anything to me, but I can appreciate quality coffee. Win.-They have those plastic squeeze bottles so you can hose down your food with as much salsa as you please. Love it.-All food is priced under $10. Yee. Save money.CONS:-I smell like a burrito yet they don't serve burritos. I could see breakfast burritos making a killing here. Just sayin'.That's about all I got on this. Will definitely be back to try more.'Til next time, cheers!

My favorite tex-mex in Chicago, that's conveniently located across the street from me. The downside is that this place is only open from 8am-3pm, so if you don't work in the area, your best chance is catching their delicious breakfast/lunch on the wkend. They must be doing really well for themselves. River North real-estate can be pricey, so to only stay open for a few hours and sustain a business without selling alcohol is very impressive. Everything I've had here is ridiculously tasty. The first time I ordered a Mexican King Ranch Casserole, which is one of their specialties. The portion was a bit small, but it was just the right amount for me. The dish was bursting with flavor. It comes with a side of slaw. The slaw with hints of lime juice was a perfect complement to the dish. I went back yesterday and got their Texas chili mac. Great portion. The bf and I split that and an order of the guisado tacos which comes with two. The flour tortilla was so soft and the thinness of the flour was just right. A tad chewy but thick enough where the filling wouldn't sink through if I added a bunch of sauces as I always do. It came with a hefty portion of hash potatoes. Make sure to try their sauces! Warning: they stop serving their breakfast items at 11am. Not printed on their menu. One of these days, I'll wake up earlier (I'm a night owl), probably get in at 10:55am, just to try their Austin-style breakfast tacos (chorizo tacos) and quiche.
