San Diego is blessed with many wonderful Thai restaurants. Taste of Thai is absolutely one of my all-time favorites. I have been coming here for probably 25 years now and have always had an amazing experience. The food is so delicious and the curries and noodle dishes all taste extremely authentic to me. As a matter of fact, I would say taste of Thai is the benchmark by which all other Thai restaurants I've ever tried are measured, and in a good way! My favorite protein at Thai restaurants is either chicken or fish and taste of Thai gets it right on either of these with melt in your mouth tender chicken. Many other Thai restaurants, especially fast casual ones like in shopping center food courts have rubbery tough chicken but not taste of Thai, it practically dissolves in your mouth like butter. All white meat unless you order one of the dishes that is made with chicken thighs which I have not personally tried. But I have also tried the roast duck and the Tom Ka soup served in a fire pot is a show stopper and one of my all-time favorite soups. If you've never tried Thai food before, or if you are a veteran that has maybe never tried this restaurant, do yourself a favor and make the trick up to Hillcrest and try some of the best Thai food around. A lot easier than traveling to Thailand. Another thing, the service here also sets the benchmark for service everywhere else. If you've ever dined in the fine dining room of a cruise ship and can appreciate never having your water or tea or soda go empty, not having dirty dishes sitting in front of you, not being handed a box and expected to pack your leftovers yourself instead of having the server do it for you automatically like they do here. Seriously some of the best service I've ever experienced. I wish other servers would dying here once so they can see what good service should be like!

Food 9/10. Really good entrees, especially the basil and eggplant. The second time I went the basil and eggplant didn't taste the same, but were still great. Service 6/10. Went there twice and waitress wasn't very welcoming or patient when asking for the order Wish the service was better. Ambiance: dim lighting with music, spacious seating inside with enough room on the tables. 3.5 because of service and inconsistency.

After meeting a friend from a cafe , my wife and I got a craving for Thai food. We searched for Thai Food in the area and we saw a few good ones but here in TASTE OF THAI that we only found good parking in the area. We got accommodated right away and got our food fast, We had some Tom Yum, Noodles, and Panang Curry with Chicken Tom Yum and noodles were great except for the Panang curry with Chicken , which was way too Salty. We like Savory food but this one is way too salty. My wife called the server to redo the Panang Curry, and they did but it became less Curry taste on it. We will come and visit this place again because we like their Tom Yum and order the Panang Curry again to see if next time it will be made correctly.

Taste of Thai is one of my favorite restaurants to dine at when in San Diego. The menu is extensive, their Wine offerings are good and priced well and I love ending my meal here with their homemade Coconut ice cream. My partner and I usually have a cocktail or two at a local bar around the corner from the restaurant ( in the Hillcrest neighborhood) before dinner here. The restaurant is always busy and the service friendly & welcoming. They also have Vegan dishes on the menu. On a recent visit, I had the Thai Asparagus with Shrimp, I ordered a side of Sticky Rice to go with it. We were dining with a friend and were all enjoying our meal &Conversation, that I only took 2 photos. I did have my Coconut Ice Cream at the end of the meal. I recommend this restaurant.

So elegant and clean inside. I appreciated the hospitality while dining here. I was brought all my food soon after ordering. The Thai iced tea was so, so yummy. Wow. I didn't think it would pair well with my food and I also didn't need caffeine for the evening, but I ended up drinking it all before my food arrived (which was pretty quickly, as I mentioned). The Panang curry was thicker than I had expected. Nonetheless, super tasty. The pork pad see iw was new to me but I really liked it. I packed my leftovers and ate them at home the next day. Still delicious. The waitstaff was friendly and very alert -- I didn't have to wait to be helped at all and was met with smiles all throughout my dining experience.

My colleagues and I were in SD for a conference and we certainly have a funny story of how we ended up at Taste of Thai for dinner on our first night. But... long story short, we were originally going to head to another Thai restaurant, but the one that was recommended had closed, or moved locations. Instead of getting another Uber/Lyft, we all decided to walk down University Ave to see what other restaurants were open, and could seat a party of 7 on a Wednesday night. Since it had been raining most of the day, all restaurants with patio seating were a no-go. Ultimately, we ended up at a Thai restaurant after all. We were seated rather quickly for a party of 7, and were also able to order quickly. With the "divider" in the middle of the room, it provided a sense of "privacy" from the other half of the room as well. From the website, it states that they have been serving SD since 1988, which is a long time! They have an extensive menu, and even have offerings of alcoholic beverages from different countries, beer and even hot sake.Spring RollsVegetables wrapped in a thin pastry, golden fried & served with a sweet-sour dipping sauce.Fresh Spring RollsVermicelli noodles, lettuce, bean sprouts, mint & shrimp(or tofu) wrapped with rice paper & served with a special house sauce.Som TumFresh green papaya, tomato, green beans, peanuts seasoned & tossed in a sweet, salty, spicy lime juice.Yellow CurryCoconut milk, potato, carrot, green pepper & onion.Panang CurryCoconut milk, Thai basil, green beans & bell peppers (sweet & creamy curry).Spicy Noodles Fresh rice noodles, basil leaves, bell pepper, chili, garlic & egg.Pad See-iw NoodlesStir-fried fresh rice noodles with egg & broccoli.I may have mixed an entrée or two, but overall, we were all very stuffed before our final dish arrived. There were a few dishes that were meh, but majority were very flavorful and excited all of our taste buds. We were most definitely pleasantly surprised with our meal and everything tasted delicious. Prices were also very reasonable. Overall, great food and customer service and very attentive servers as well.

This used to be a favorite Thai restaurant but after finding these bugs in my soup, I will not be returning. This was a to go order and the soup was completed covered and wrapped in plastic when it arrived. See photo.

Came here on Thanksgiving and while the restaurant was busy, it wasn't hard to get a table. The service is so kind here!!! Very attentive and willing to work with special diets--they put me at ease with ordering vegan options. I got the vegan duck dish since I've never had this before and was curious. It was okay, but I think I just didn't order the best thing on the menu. The tofu spring rolls are a must (peanut sauce is vegan but not the sauce it comes with). My mother in law ordered a shrimp curry and they accidentally brought her the seafood curry. She still enjoyed it but they were so kind and brought us a dessert for free. Highly recommend checking this place out :)
