Taste of Thai's Street Pad See-Ew
The best Khao soi and Thai food in Washington. The aroma of the khao soi is dancing with spices and coconut milk. Simply delicious

In shortAbsolutely mesmerizing menu, warm and friendly service, great ambiance, and the food ends up being okay. In longReading this menu was a weird paradox of feelings--both impatient to try it and also feeling edified, like we had gained knowledge of Thai culinary tradition just by reading the descriptions of each dish. It's an hour away from us IF traffic cooperates, which yesterday it did not. By the time we got there we were ridiculously hungry. It's a newer, bright and clean strip mall, and it's clean and quiet inside. You forget the strip mall setting immediately. Nice dark wood everywhere around, and clean and tidy tables that don't quite all match--which I love. They played classic jazz the entire time we were there. Not everyone knows that King Bhumibol Adulyadej (who passed in 2016) was a jazz pianist and saxophonist, but some Thai places' playlists are all classic jazz, which is one of my favorite styles of music, so I was absolutely loving the Ella and Sarah and other stuff coming out of the speakers. We got waters immediately, and didn't get asked for our order until we put down our menus. Nice attention to detail on their part, 'cause it's easy to spend way too much time deciding here. Prices are fair enough, and 5 dishes didn't make us miserably full. Easy to have a big spread here.Fresh Steamed Rolls (Por Piah Sod Poo)I don't really get plain yellow American mustard as a condiment here. Tangy tart flavors are appropriate but it just makes you feel like you're eating a hot dog at the ballyard. The roll itself is pretty tasty, super messy. Thai Yellow Curry PuffThis was so cool. It's a wonderfully flavorful curry but you're eating it in a samosa-like pastry. Delicious and unexpected. Thai Chips & DipNever seen these anywhere else. Great soft crunch to the kale, interesting sweet and savory dip.Khow Mun Som TumWe didn't see Wipa in the kitchen, and I wonder if some of these dishes are better when she's on? They somehow managed to overcook a chicken thigh to the point that it was dry and stringy. The rice was dry, and didn't have the coconut milk the menu mentions. Khow Soi (Northern Thai Curry Noodles) Messy and delicious. Good noodles, nice fresh veg. In the end, for some reason the food on the table fell short of the promise of the menu, and the portions seemed kinda small. But it's still a good Thai place, the people are great, and I dug the setting. I'd happily come back if in the area but it's not worth 2 hours in the truck just to come here.

Given the hype on quality of food, I was quite underwhelmed by the execution here. We went here after a hike nearby, so we were pretty hungry and wanted some good food. We shared a chicken pad thai, beef pad see ew, Wipa's khao mun som tum, Thai yellow curry puff, and mango sticky rice.Chicken pad thai was fairly aesthetic with the egg net, but the noodle itself was a bit on the softer / overcooked side. I would have expected the texture to be a bit firmer and the dish to be less salty.Beef pad see ew was fairly good. The noodles for pad see ew were cooked well in comparison. The beef was just tough and dry.Wipa's khao mun som tum was decent. The papaya salad was a bit skimped, as there were papaya but mostly lettuce. I am big fan of the coconut rice that is blue - that is probably the best part of the dish. The chicken thigh was not that well seasoned and somewhat dry. I expected better for the $21 price tag.Thai yellow curry puff tastes quite similar to what you would find in a good bakery. It does feel a bit highway robbery to charge $7+ for one pastry, given that it was flaky but not quite buttery or toasted well. The mango sticky rice is probably the best thing we ordered in the menu. Mango was sweet and ripe, and yet again they have the excellent blue coconut rice that was offered in the khao mun som tum.Service also needs to be improved. We placed the orders and another waitress comes along and asked for our orders. It happened not once, but twice, where another occasion involved asking for drink orders. Better communication can be done to improve the overall dining experience. This is especially given that they are charging way higher prices for similar Thai food compared to the standard, so I expected much more for the quality and experience.

Huge fan. The food was absolutely excellent. This is a vegetarian review. We had the pineapple fried rice with tofu and the Khao soi. The pineapple fried rice was delicious and a clear winner! For appetizers we had the fried spring roll and for dessert- mango sticky rice. The mango sticky is rice is a seasonal dessert as per the menu. The mango served to us at the end of April was perfectly ripe and sweet. What a blissful dish. This is a very popular place. We went for weekday lunch and got seated after about two minutes. I could see there being a wait during weekends or evenings. The decor is quite cute with many pictures from Thailand and Thai cuisine. Wipa seems to have an interesting story as well which is you can read on the website. The service was fabulous. We ended up with a mix of two servers but both were kind and thoughtful.Prices were a bit on the mid to higher side but that may be the standard for a high cost of living area. And also this place is rated so highly that it may indeed be what customers like us are willing to pay for.

We stopped by after the tulip farms. I tried a bit of my boyfriend's Khao Soi, and it was the best Khao Soi I've had in a long time! The papaya salad was also very tasty. I'd also highly recommend the Fresh Steamed Rolls!

After going to the tulip field, I found this place nearby on Yelp to stop by for lunch. The reviews looked very promising, and boy, super happy we stopped by!It's located in between Car Toys and Papa Murphy's in a small lot on the intersections of S Burlington Blvd and Gilkey Rd in Burlington. There's a parking lot with a good amount of stalls. I got their Khow Soi (northern styled curry noodles) which I seem to always gravitate to whenever I see it on the menu. VERY GOOD. I loved the curry in it. There was a lot of proteins too. The noodle was a little over cooked but expected as it's soaking in all the curry. My friends go the Thai-Styled Stir-Fried Meat with Cashew Chicken (super good! Full of flavor; didn't realize how good this was as I always go for the same things LOL), Pad See-Ew with beef (very flavorful too! Interesting how it was on an "appetizer" plate (rectangular plate)), and Yellow Curry (sweeter curry without any spices because her boyfriend couldn't handle spiciness which my friend didn't like so I ended up switching mine with hers because she originally wanted to Khow Soi LOL. Honestly didn't mind the sweetness of the curry). A hidden gem in the northern county of Washington. Recommend checking the restaurant out if you're ever in the area (not many Thai places up there).

The food is high quality and authentic Thai! As someone who grew up on Thai food, it was like being home while so far away. They offer lots of gluten free options too and I had NO CROSS CONTAMINATION! The staff are lovely and very helpful with recommendations. The wait is worth it! The atmosphere is welcoming and the food keeps me coming back for more.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Washington. Absolutely floored by this hole in the wall Thai restaurant and their mouth watering dishes. Our favorites at the kale chips, curries and khao soi and give each dish a 5/5 stars. The owner Wipa is so kind, welcoming, and talented! I cannot wait to come back to eat the food!

This is my favorite Thai place I have ever been, including in Thailand! The kow soi and papaya salad in particular are phenomenal! The papaya salad is tangy, salty, sweet and fresh. Every vegetable in the salad had a great crunch and the perfect amount of sauce. I can only imagine it had been marinating in the sauce too with how much flavor was in each of them. The kow soi was the most flavorful soup I have ever had. The coconut, curry, spices, and broth were super rich and draped off the noodles with each bite. The fried rice noodles added a great crunch. There were enough in the soup that they didn't immediately get soggy like others have. One of the unexpected Jewls was the picketed vegetables that cut the savory soup really well. The Phad thai was also good but was hard to compare with how good the other two were. The service was phenomenal too. Every time we needed anything they were there in a second and were super friendly. Just like most Thai places, the atmosphere is nothing to boast about. There is usually a baking show playing in the background and thai paraphernalia scattered about. While the atmosphere is just okay, this is sometimes a sign of not needing to overcompensate for bad food and this is definitely the case for them. The food and service is phenomenal. I will crave this place even if I end up living in Thailand. It is my reatraunt of the year and I look forward to going back whenever I get the chance.
