We loved this place! Had a 7pm reservation and the owner was magnificent. Our table had our name on it which was cute. Started off with the Brussels sprouts and red pesto toast and we cleaned the plates. We enjoyed a flight of beer which was fun. Then we shared the lamb chops which were delicious and a basket of truffle fries. We were celebrating our birthdays and they made flan for us. Overall a great experience

We were in town for 5 days and had reservations the 2nd night at Tapas & Beer. It was so good that we cancelled our other reservation 2 nights later to go here again. Julie is a queen. She was incredibly kind, helpful and understanding about our multiple food allergies. Her recommendations were spot on and the food & drinks were outstanding. The charming but casual restaurant was on a quieter side street with outdoor seating which was perfect on a balmy evening. The mushroom brie toast was so good that my husband ordered it twice in one sitting. Other standouts were: the lamb chops, shrimp & angus beef. There was even a cola "mock-tail" that really impressed me - I wish I had written down the name! Merci & Gracias!!!

We made a reservation for a party of 11 before a show at the Balboa Theater. They were gracious and seated us upstairs away from everyone (probably more for the other guests than the 11 of us). Service up there was a little slow but that's to be expected and I didn't take any stars away for that. The things I tasted:Fries - amazing and crisp but not gluten free. They have some kind of breading on them. Brussels Sprouts - delicious. Charred, sweet and salty. Paella - it had a piece of salmon, about 4 shrimp, 4 mussels and calamari rings. And two long strips of chorizo. Pretty good. Not a ton of flavor but the seafood was fresh tasting. I didn't try the chicken flatbread but it got great reviews from others at the table. I'd like to go back again and try their peach salad. And their quinoa salad. And their ice tea is a solid offering and it's unsweetened.

I've been to Tapas & Beer 4 or 5 more times since my first visit last Fall. Anyone who I have brought here has loved it! Reservations aren't necessarily needed, but can be made on Open Table. This is a super convenient spot to have dinner if you're going to the Civic Theater. I absolutely love this downtown restaurant. The service is always outstanding and the food consistently delicious. I still love:- Mushroom and Brie toast-Garlic shrimp (ask for side of bread)-prosciutto flat bread -sausage flat bread -white sangria Happy Hour saves you a couple of dollars. A few things to note: -it's downtown, so if you sit on the patio. You may have homeless people loitering nearby -double check your bill when you scan your bill. Sometimes the app total isn't accurate. There's a great selection of beer and wine.

My husband and I were going to a show at Balboa Theater and looking for a place nearby to grab dinner beforehand. Stumbled across Tapas & Beers and what a lovely surprise! Very warm and inviting ambiance and it is owned and operated by a husband and wife team who are friendly and welcoming. The food was OUTSTANDING. We ordered the burrata peach salad and it comes with a homemade vinaigrette that is so good I took it home. The macaroni & cheese and made to order French bread is the stuff dreams are made of. It's been a few weeks since we've been there and I am thinking of any excuse to go back!

We stumbled on this gem while we where u turning back to the Gaslamp . I'm so glad we did. The Calamari is superb as are the grilled lamb chops , wow !The food is amazing and the atmosphere is very relaxed . The service was attentive without being overbearing. A great French couple manage the front of house and they bring the perfect mix of fun and professionalism to the floor . I assumed the chef was Spanish or French but to my pleasant surprise they are from San Diego Culinary college . I highly recommend you make a reservation especially at weekends .
