I'm surprised to see that this place only had 3.5 stars, I thought the food was delicious! I got the orange chicken and it was fresh, had real orange flavor, and came out quickly too!! The service was great, they checked up on us a good bit and were very mindful of dietary restrictions. Also such a nicely decorated place. Great for a birthday dinner or celebration of sorts!

Surprised by how good the food was. Super expensive- over $400 with three people. Good, but not blown away great. Deserts were total trash though. Waiter was great

The lettuce shrimp was delicious, definitely add the lime! A major highlight of the food was the Volcano lobster something roll (don't recall the actual name). The waiter was attentive but so are all the staff once You step in! The decor is beautiful, I was mesmerized by the statue n lights all night. The entree menu needs more variety; we ended up doing the seafood fried rice, it was mid.. so we ordered the second special roll and it was midLong story short the beginning of our experience was the highlight of our visit5 star for ambience and serviceBut food could be much better

My employer brought around 20 of us out to Chicago for a conference we were attending and we had a private dinner with a custom menu in one of the upper-level dining areas. Food included:Starters- Hot edamame- Shishito peppersSmall Plates- Crispy pork bao buns- Chicken wing lollipops- Spicy tuna tartare on crispy riceLand, Sky, Sea- Filet mignon pepper steak- honey ginger glazed salmonThe Sides- Lobster fried rice- Spicy szechuan potatoes- Chinese broccoliSignature Dessert Tasting- Selection of TAO's most popular sweetsThe only thing I didn't eat was the salmon because I don't care for salmon. Everything else was absolutely delicious. I wanted to keep eating everything and did until I was stuffed. I don't even usually like lobster and thought the fried rice was fantastic (and generous with the lobster). I also had a couple of mocktails -- one with a grapefruit soda base and strawberry puree, the other a cucumber-based drink. Both were fantastic.Dessert was the only underwhelming part of the meal and it felt more like spectacle than substance. It was a tower of desserts served with steam rolling off of it, but the desserts weren't clearly labeled and some weren't the best for sharing. It seemed like at least one dish was a chocolate lava cake, another a chocolate mousse, a very oversized fortune cookie, and some other odds and ends that didn't look super alluring.Service was extremely attentive and food came out at regular intervals. We were never sitting with nothing to eat or drink. I would definitely make a return trip here if I made another visit to Chicago; just the gorgeous interior alone would bring me back.

Went with some friends and got a vide variety of stuff. Service and ambiance are always good. Fav for sure was the salmon. The fatty tuna didn't have great flavor so that was disappointing. Green curry was also delicious! Overall would recommend going, but no need to move it to top of the list or anything!

The decor is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous to walk into. It is very dark but not too dark where you need a light to see the menu. The menu is loaded. Our waiter had great suggestions since we brought the kids with us. The tuna pringles were super tasty! I could've had multiple plates of that. Their desserts were visually stunning and they tasted amazing. The giant fortune cookie was way bigger than I anticipated , incredible. The Mandarin was painted to look like an actual orange which you crack open and the delicious orange mousse is inside of it. The lo mein was very delicious. All of our food that we had ordered was delicious. The main thing, everything took a very long time. Our start time was 5 PM and we did not leave until just before 7 PM. Be prepared to have a generous wait in between courses. All in all, would definitely go back.

All that glitters isn't gold. This is a beautiful restaurant with at least two floors, one for dining, another for dancing. The décor is pristine, even a big Buddha putting on what appears to be a technicolor show. It's definitely the type of place for a hot date, a special occasion, and the like. It aims to impress, and at the very least, in terms of ambiance, it does. It otherwise does not have much going for it. I'll explain.I believe it was somewhere between 20-30 of us who went one weeknight. We had had the place reserved for ages for our team dinner (seeing as hey, we mainly work remote and we only see each once a year if that). Upon sitting down, there were so many of us that we were divided amongst two tables. No issue; we could deal with it.Some in my party wanted alcohol. Given that the package that was purchased did not include it, you'd think that buying it out of your own pocket at the bar would not be a problem. Except that it was! We were told we could only purchase a maximum of what was it? Four drinks for a table of nearly 30? I understand that this was a company dinner, but I would think the restaurant would want to make more money out of us, and well, alcohol is one way to do it. It simply baffles the mind. That said, in terms of food, we had a fixed menu. We started with some appetizers. Among them were edamame, shishito peppers, dumplings, egg rolls, and some bites of what looked to be chicken, but I ultimately do not exactly remember. The appetizers themselves were decent but nothing to write home about. Nevertheless, they were good enough that we waited for the main course eagerly.I'll tell you that the main course took ages to arrive. We had the tables reserved for two hours and it was in the second hour that they brought out the main courses. Main courses were chicken and salmon with white rice and potatoes. The chicken was chewy; it should have been tender upon biting. The salmon I did not try because it smelled fishy, meaning it was either past its date or not properly cooked. Some in the table ate it and just said to me that it wasn't what salmon is supposed to taste like, in essence that it was off. The potatoes were salty. Whomever seasoned them had a heavy hand and that's saying something as I usually am a vacuum cleaner when it comes to potatoes. Here they merely sat on the plate. The white rice was the only thing that was actually cooked correctly. Needless to say, by this point in the dinner, my expectations for dessert were minimal.Dessert as well took its sweet time to come, but the presentation was spectacular. All lights and smoke to present a gorgeously-tiered plate full of treats. You had fruits, a fortune cookie that had naughty thoughts, ice cream, and I'm likely forgetting something, but it was impressive upon sight. In terms of taste, at least to me - nothing special. I honestly think I'm not giving the desserts the credit they deserve, but this entire dining experience was a bit off-putting.The amount of time it took to get our food, the lack of organization with the package, the fact that the year before we went to a company dinner where we all left in love... sigh... I think this restaurant is lucky that I didn't pay for this dinner. That's probably the only reason I'm rating as high as I am. They definitely have room for plenty of improvement.

This is a visually stunning restaurant. However, at their heart I think they really want to be a dance club first. The food is very mediocre and overpriced. We used open table to make our reservation and arrived 15 minutes early We let them know we had arrived. They said we would likely be seated in 15-20 minutes and directed us to a lounge area to wait. We sat patiently until 10 mins past our original reservation time and I went back to the hostess to check on our table. She responded by saying "oh, I didn't realize your entire party (there were only 3 of us!) was here!" She informed us our table was being set up now. This took another 10 minutes apparently and we finally were seated. The first thing I can tell you is that it is LOUD there. Really loud. Like, the waitress mixed up our drink and appetizer orders because she couldn't hear us over the pounding techno-beat. You literally could not hold a normal conversation. Add to this the fact that this seems to be the go-to spot for groups of young ladies in the 21-25 yr old age range and you get them shrieking, dancing at their tables, and singing in celebration of somebody's birthday/graduation/engagement/etc. As a restaurant it straight up sucks. Think Chucky Cheese goes to Vegas to recreate the movie "Hangover" but with an all-girl cast - with one girl in each party wearing some kind of tiara. We had cocktails that were average. Appetizers that were forgettable. Small plates that were mediocre. I can't figure out why anyone would go there for a meal, then when we left I realized it is really just a renedvouz point prior to trying to get I to the adjacent dance club. Trust me - skip "Chucky Cheese meets the Hangover" and just go directly to queue for the dance club. The menu is complicated and apparently requires a 3-4 minute orientation by the waitress - which we could not hear due to the insane music. Everything is a la carte so it is quite

Wow! Coming in from out of town this might have been the most memorable part of our trip to Chicago. Walking in was amazingly beautiful and the perfect spot for a date night. The food was soo good I would definitely recommend the Hong Kong noodles...I might even fly out again just to order some of those noodles again! The service was okay as well. We brought our baby which was a little bit of a hassle because we had to carry it up the steps and then take a elevator down to our table. But besides the accessibility, it was a great experience.

The space is outstanding here and honestly not another place can compare to this in Chicago. It gorgeous! The server that we had was very attentive and made the experience even more special. Now the food... It was good. But for the price not worth it. Being in river north there are a handful of establishments that have a great atmosphere and amazing food that won't up-charge you. I feel like you're paying for the name, but is it worth it... up to you to decide.
