Food: phenomenal, authentic. I grew up eating Peruvian food and this hit home. This is a chain present in Peru and Chile. 100% recommend the tuna tiradito and pulpo al olivo. If you are not as adventurous, lomo saltado would not disappoint. No pictures as I was in a business like outing. Service: very good! not all servers speak Spanish if that's important for you. Ambience: has a nice rooftop. Kind of loud inside though.

This is a cute restaurant and we went for happy hour. The jalapeño margarita was tasty. The ceviche was overpriced and far too little for $16 for a happy hour special. And it didn't include any tostados or chips. The ceviche was fresh so I will say that. The second drink I had was a sangria. It was much too sweet and awful. I will say the drinks are overpriced but the vibe is lovely - with the rooftop etc. Overall nice time.

In the city, there are a handful of rooftop restaurant and more than half the time, the view is better than the food. Tanta was on my try list for a while but nothing on the menu really spoke to me. For our weekly night out, I wanted to try something new instead of our regular rotations and hopefully be pleasantly surprised so we took a chance with Tanta! We came on a Friday evening and it was pretty packed and the vibes were amazing! Since our table wasn't ready, we got a drink (staying alive) at the bar. The cocktail was really refreshing and light. I really appreciated how quick service was at the bar. You know how usually bartenders get so backed up and just ignore you, yeah not here. Super quick with taking your order, making your drink, and closing you out. After 15ish minutes, our table was ready on the rooftop. We ordered the pisco sour to share since we both have never tried before.. but this was a mistake because it looked way cuter than it tasted. It tasted like a shot in a cup which is totally fine but we weren't expecting that at all. If I'm being honest, I was hoping it would taste like a green tea shot.. anyways nothing about the quality of the drink, just not my forte. For appetizers, we shared the Nikkei which was tuna ceviche with taro chips. When it came out, my initial thought was that the tuna didn't look fresh as it was a bit of a dull purple color so I was worried it would be really bad quality and fishy. The avocado and ceviche sauce was tangy and paired well with the lighter taro chips. As for the tuna, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good. The tuna bites were just cut way too big I think and kinda felt overwhelming especially if you're eating it with a big cube of avocado on a taro chip. Maybe I wouldn't mind the tuna cut if it tasted better. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the ceviche sauce and avocado as that was the perfect bite! For our mains, we shared the empanadas trip and lomo saltado. The trio comes with a beef, chicken, and vegetarian. We first tried the beef which was honestly the highlight of our entire meal. The meat was very tender and juicy with a smoky aroma. The empanada itself was so soft, crispy, and flaky in all the right places aka the crust. I wish we saved the beef for last because that was the best of the trio. The next was the chicken and that one was the worse. Couldn't really tell if it was chicken or not because it was shredded too much. For all we know, it was mystery meat! The flavor wasn't my favorite as well. It was leaning towards a bitter curry. The vegetarian empanada was the second best. Not sure exactly what the filling was but it had a really fresh flavor, almost like a twist on chimmichurri and pesto. At this point, we were getting full and also not that satisfied with the ceviche and trio as much as we had hoped we would be, but we had the lomo saltado. The steak bites were cooked beautifully and with a lot of flavor but everything else was really mid. The potatoes or French fries were soggy, the tomatoes needed to be cooked down a bit more.. the whole execution of the dish I felt was lacking and could have been done better.Though our experience with the food wasn't the greatest, I can say that the service is top notch and super attentive. It was also really nice of them to send us free dessert for my birthday and also give me the cutest llama birthday card signed by the whole staff. The rooftop itself is on the smaller side but it is still a cute vibe.

Cute Peruvian restaurant with a roof and DJ during brunch. Definitely make reservations. They have a 90 minute bottomless mimosa with specific brunch items that be paired for a total of ~$60. They weren't strict with time when we visited otherwise it would be a bit annoying since the brunch items aren't really Peruvian or appetizing looking so we all ordered off the main menu which made it more expensive. We had a very friendly and attentive waiter. The host and bartenders were lovely as well. We shared the salad(really more of a grain bowl); chicken empanadas; and crudo.

To celebrate our anniversary, my partner and I chose Tanta for dinner and absolutely loved it. Gaston is a well respected chef in Peru so we knew we were in for a treat. We started with tiradito maracuya and ceviche clásico. Both delicious. Ceviche never fails and the tiradito was wonderful. I had a maracuya pisco sour which was great but I think I prefer the OG! For my entree I had lomo and it was SO good. The filet was perfect. So melt in your mouth. Of course the sauce was just perfection with the perfect amount of sour. My partner had a Nikkei-style salmon entree. He loved it. We finished off with a few more cocktails and mocktails.Service was great. Very knowledgable and attentive staff. Beautiful space and water is refilled frequently. Now please add ají de gallina to the menu. ;)

3.5. Kitchen knows its stuff and delivers the goods and the rooftop bar slaps but the value proposition isn't quite there. You pay a lot for what you get.

One of my favorite locations for dinner. It was almost 7 years since the last time I stepped foot inside but the vibe was still there. I do think the older menu was slightly better both food and cocktail wise. However that is no way a burn towards them. Very friendly staff and just an amazing night with a great food experience. Enjoy!!

Second time here and absolutely love visiting Gaston Acurio's only US outpost of Tanta. Incredible Peruvian food and must-visit for me when in Chicago. Make sure to get a booking as it fills up.

Tanta is a cute place, but their rooftop is a little small and space/seating is very limited. They have a decent happy hour but they only allow those specials for bar seating so if you have more than 2 people you probably won't get a seat at the bar in the summer. If they expanded it to all the tables I would be much more inclined to come back. The pear margarita was bright pink and so cute, tasted pretty good but overall drinks and food are on the pricey side for what you get here.
