Yama-Taiyo Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar

Okay, I'm just gonna say it right now;this is byfar the best sushi experience I've ever had in the Pinellas area.The food overall is good, and they have some very nice imported drinks from Japan, but their sushi? Top. Notch.Unlike most places in Florida, Yama-Taiyo actually *seasons* their sushi and it's just absolutely bursting with flavor; Given its not a chain restaurant, it definitely explains why they take so much pride in their food. I personally recommend the Spicy Tuna, Chicken, and Tampa Makimono rolls.The people working there are very friendly, very hard-working, and will take very good care of you. The environment is well-decorated, very warm, and definitely makes you feel cozy. Sadly they don't use the hibachi grills anymore but it's still a nice touch!I highly recommend this place; the food here is off the hook!

I absolutely love this place. I have been coming here for years and it is my favorite date night spot with my boyfriend! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is calming and the staff if so super friendly. Love love love this place!

3.2 stars. Service was friendly and efficient. Sushi was decent, but nothing special. Prices were higher than they should be for the quality. Hibachi was a miss. Ambiance was strange...lots of toys for kids and a claw machine. Bathrooms were clean, but need refurbishing. There are better options in the area.

In the mood for some Japanese fair and driving home from the Honeymoon Island we found this spot. Love when you get good service, see your Sushi made fresh, and forget to take pictures because the food smelled and looked delicious. I loved the Pad Thai, perfect portion. The Chicken Teriyaki was average, no taste bud fire works to report, I've had better. Now the Gyoza I was very happy with, moist, seasoned perfectly. The dumplings were a bit too dry on the ends for me, even dipped in soy sauce. Miso soup was standard. Overall we were happy and will return to try some other items on the menu.

Friendly staff, swift service! We were there early so it wasn't very busy. The hostess/ server was friendly and very quick with refills. Fresh sushi!!!

Ben has known about this place and their good word of mouth reviews for a while but he never told me that name to save it and try it before now. I was in the mood for sushi on our way home from Tarpon and they popped up so I said let's go! We got there to a fairly empty place but Ben mentioned they did a lot of togo ordered. While we reviewed their very large menu I could have their uber eats alarm or dig going off again. Their menu offers a wide ride of items if you're not into sushi and there were several items that sounded good and that I want to try but this trip was for the sushi. Under the sushi items there were several that sounded good and when we first walked in, the table we passed had something on their plate I wanted so I ordered what I thought it was. We ordered the Buccaneer, the Dynamite, the Ocean and the Unnamed Rolls along with the Gyoza, mushroom soup and seaweed salad. We truly had a difficult time narrowing it down so we just ordered a lot. The prices were really good too. The gyoza or potstickers were really good. We both enjoyed them and they were gone in no time. We shared the mushroom soup and seaweed salad. The soup had a super clear and flavorful broth and the seaweed salad was really fresh with a great crunch and a little kick from the pepper flakes. When our sushi came out they had it nicely placed on one large plate but as she went tonsit it down I noticed one looked like something we didn't order. Our waitress noticed it just about the same time and quickly took the plate back and then returned and said they were making the Ocean roll that we ordered and that they accidently made the Super Crunchy but for us to enjoy it as well. That was really nice and well... it was damn delicious!! We both looked at each other with happiness and then giggled saying how that was the best one out of the ones we tried so far. LOL. When she came back with the Ocean roll she also giggled and asked how we liked it because it was nearly gone. The three chef rolls we got were all really good. I was leaving there a very full and happy girl!!The service was very attentive and friendly and the restaurant was clean. I can definitely see why they do so much to go and why the word of mouth reviews Ben had were so good. I snagged a menu to go home with us for me to read over and plan out our next visit.

I've been going to this place since they've opened which I can't even remember which year but I know I've been going to them for at least 10 years now. They have the same staff and they are always consistent with quality, service, etc. The drinks and food are good and super affordable compared to other sushi spots in the area. This is my favorite sushi spot hands down. I've had so many things and there hasn't been a single thing I've not liked yet - from various sushi, sashimi, nigiris to their wonton soup and mushroom soup, to their fried tofu and hibachi and entrees. I love that they always have coconut water and with the big coconut chunks in it like what I'm used to while growing up. They also have boba and living in palm harbor there is no place for good boba but I like theirs enough to satisfy my cravings without having to drive to Tampa or PPark.

I was surprised to see this restaurant not filled up when we were there last Friday night. It's nicely decorated with potted plants along the front, plenty of windows and almost a sunroom type of sitting area along the front of the restaurant. We had a great experience here; our food was delicious I loved my udon noodles dish. The sushi was fresh and we all enjoyed it. The wait staff was courteous, attentive and smiling which is always nice.

Very good food and service!! Good local hibachi and sushi!! Very clean and nice ambiance.
