The Sandhill Grill

My home is in Highlands County and the biggest restaurateur in the county owns three wildly diverse restaurants and this is one of them. I've eaten here many times, but this time my meal was exceptional!Arriving- This place is out in the boondocks of Avon Park! Trust your GPS to get you started. Once you are closing in there is excellent signage. Of course, you're parking at the clubhouse and there is a decent lot. Watch out for golf carts!Atmosphere- This is a golf club restaurant that is open to the public. It's a big, bright, airy place with two large rooms and a beautiful bar. As many of the customers are just off the golf course, it's very casual. It has quite a few TVs for catching a game but it's definitely not a sports bar. Customer Service- Our server was a bit of a mix. She was very new, very nice, but lacking in knowledge. With a little time, I think she'll be great.Food- A combo of unique and classic American fare. You've got your burgers, chicken parm and alfredo dishes. There is a selection of flatbreads that are awesome, and a giant pretzel served with warm beer cheese that is incredible to share!I was on a mission. I had seen an 8 oz. skirt steak with chimichurri on the menu. It's not often I see chimichurri and I was drooling. I paired it with some fries and looked forward to an amazing lunch.It was out in good time. For a lunch plate, it was a very nice presentation. The nicely seared steak was coated with chimichurri with some additional served on the sided. The pickled onions were a nice touch. The fries were beautifully cooked.The steak was fantastic and a perfect medium rare. The chimichurri was bursting with flavor and the fries were exceptional!The meal was an easy five stars, but the service was a bit off. I'm going with four stars and a strong recommendation to get the skirt steak!

If I could give it 6 stars I would.The blackened shrimp and veggies were the best I think I've ever had. Amanda the waitress was awesome. Friendly .and waiting to please. The quantity was plentiful about 14 shrimp.

Such a pleasant surroundings in which to enjoy the extraordinarily good food! I go back again and again for their food, especially the pork ribeye! The best pork I've ever eaten. Tender, juicy and great portion!

I was happily surprised by how good the food and the service were at Sandhill Grill. I was part of a group of 6 people. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. We passed around the appetizers and each one was very good. Truly enjoyed the following :Grouper bitesBuffalo shrimpOnion ring towerFried Green tomatoesFried pickles and green beansThe Cobb salad was huge and really good. The flatbread pizza was very good and I'm told that the burger was good also. The only item that was a little disappointing was the chicken picatta. Not terrible but just ok. All of the portion sizes were impressive. They could use a few more craft beer options but other than that, it was a great experience. Everyone said that they would return. I wish I could remember our server's name but she was outstanding. I'll be back

Good food good service, will come back again, our 2nd visit much better than first. Great salads and drinks!

I was skeptical of this place driving in because it was in some kind of country club. However it was actually fantastic and open to anyone. Service was great, food was great, prices were reasonable. I had the chicken piccata with pasta which was very good. My girlfriend had the grilled shrimp with the potatoes au gratin which were delicious and we also had cheese curds. Overall great place, especially considering there are not that many places around here. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.

So many want to know the good AND THE BAD about a restaurant. So here is the bad; the acoustics are noisy when the place is anywhere near full. BUT THATS IT!! On the positive side, excellent food prep team with many tasty main entrees and side dishes ARE NOT an afterthought here! (Au gratin potatoes are quite tasty & even the green beans are spiced up a bit - try them at least once!) We'd also note portion sizes are where they should be; no corner cutting here! Having been customers since the beginning, we can say the service has been very good although two long time servers, Amanda & Gabrielle, have taken the role of a quality server to an even higher level. Both of these gals put a smile on our faces when they take care of us! Bottom line, when we have out of town guests, and we are going out to eat, the Sandhill Grill is one of our favorite options. Terrible service. I waited 15 minutes after being seated and the waitress never came to the table And then left. They need to have more help or more training for the staff. I do not recommend this restaurant.

French dip, Caesar salad and cheeseburger soup all excellent. Terrific and friendly service. Also carry Heineken 0.0 non alcoholic beer, which we appreciate. Recommend!

Delicious seafood chowder and sandwich Seasonal vegetables ands salmon well done. Followed the line arriving for a full house. Generous portions and good values
