Sushi Maru

I stumbled upon this sushi spot while exploring the area with my husband, so we decided to give it a try. This is actually my fifth visit, and I figured it was finally time to share my thoughts. The staff here is super friendly and the atmosphere seems to have a good vibe to it. My husband has a shellfish allergy, so he appreciates that there are chicken sushi options available. He first tried the Yummy Yummy roll without the krab salad and loved it. Now, his favorite is the Chick-fil-A roll--it's his go-to, and he says it's the best chicken sushi he's ever had.As for me, I enjoy both raw and cooked seafood sushi. My favorites are the Super Mexican, 2020, and Sake Bomb rolls. Every roll I've tried here has been delicious, and I will definitely be returning. Plus, I love their 2-for-1 drink specials!I've also tried a few appetizers--the creamy green mussels had a bit too much sauce for my taste, but they were still good. The gyoza is another tasty option.That said, I do have a couple of minor complaints. The soda machine could use some attention, as the soda often tastes off and flat. Additionally, while I understand that QR code menus are popular now, I prefer having a physical menu. With so many roll options, it's easier to compare them in front of me rather than scrolling on my phone.Overall, though, the food here is delicious, and I'll definitely be back!

We eat here regularly. Consistently very good sushi. Excellent service and nice atmosphere.

Little spot in an easy area to find. Was clean and was greeted immediately by the waiter. Pretty large menu for a small place but it's all via QR code and that isn't my preference. I had a blue moon and a bagel roll, both came out quickly and the sushi was as to be expected. We had a little lack in the service, not having our dirty plates cleared for a while, but everything else was good.

First time here started with the goyza. Very nice dumpling with the perfect sear on them. Light with a flavorful filling. Got the Diablo roll. Rice on roll cooked perfect and the roll had great flavor and nice heat to it. Also had the baby octopus. Done nicely and sauce was great on it. Will def be back

Stopped in for a quick bite after a movie. My server was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered the Pile Up Roll which had shrimp tempura, avocado and cream cheese inside. On top crab salad, tempura flakes, spicy mayo, eel sauce and scallions. It was really tasty. I was surprised the Green Mussels were served cold. I've never had them cold, always had them baked. They had gluten free soy sauce which was a plus for me. They don't have physical menus. It's all with a QR code. I don't do QR codes so I had to rely on the menu from Yelp. I enjoyed the atmosphere as well.

I had such high hopes, and the lunch was such a disappointment. I made it just in time for a sushi/sashimi lunch combo on a Saturday. The place was busy even at that time, which I thought was a good sign.My server was nice and efficient, and in no time I had my salad, platter and diet soda in front of me. The platter was described as 9 pieces of sashimi and 3 pieces nigiri for $21.99. Well, the nigiri was the normal size that you would expect from any sushi place, but the sashimi pieces were so tiny and thin, that I guarantee if you stuck all of them together, they wouldn't equal one piece of the nigiri that was served. I can't believe the restaurant wouldn't be embarrassed to serve pieces so tiny. I took a picture, but I should have used a penny for scale, because I guarantee you can't imagine just how tiny these pieces of sashimi were.For meal, soda and tip it came to $30, and I left hungry. If there is no food left anywhere on Earth except here, and I'm forced to come here again, I'll try the sushi rolls, because the ones I saw looked good.

This is my second time coming here because I enjoyed it so much the first, my friend also had this place come to mind when I asked her for good sushi in Brandon. We started off with miso soups, it was good but didn't have much tofu or seaweed (which I love), but had a good flavor. Next the crab Rangoon, it was tasty! They looked a bit greasy, and the corners are hard to eat because they are hard and sharp. But I enjoyed the filling and the sauce. The server is kind, however I did not like that I felt rushed. I like taking my time picking out my roll (they have almost too many options) and the server was kinda and patient. I'm picky with sushi and I loved my selections. Amazing ambiance!

*To go order review* My favorite sushi spot in the Tampa area. I abSOLUTELY LOVE their Buddha Roll and I highly recommend it. The BUDDHA roll was so good I've ordered it multiple times and would order it again and again. I recently tried their tuna nachos, I've been wanting to try them for a while. They weren't bad, pretty good but different than what I expected. I usually call ahead and pickup my order, I haven't had the pleasure of sitting inside the restaurant as of yet but they are usually quick with orders and the customer service is good for to go orders.
