Pepper's Island is a hidden gem serving authentic Trinidad and Tobago cuisine with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The decor is thoughtfully done, creating a warm and inviting space that instantly transports you to the islands. When we asked the owner for recommendations, he didn't just suggest dishes--he engaged us in a delightful conversation. His charisma and passion for the food shone through, making our experience even more memorable. We tried the shrimp curry and the goat curry, and both were phenomenal! The flavors were perfectly balanced, with rich, aromatic spices that left us savoring every bite. Each dish was incredibly generous, easily enough for two meals. The goat was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, while the shrimp curry had the ideal blend of spice and sweetness. We highly recommend getting some extra pepper sauce--it's homemade, packed with flavor, and adds the perfect kick to any dish.To complement the meal, we enjoyed a homemade mango and pineapple drink. It was absolutely refreshing, with the perfect blend of tropical sweetness and natural fruit flavor. The drink was so good we're still thinking about it--it's a must-try! We also treated ourselves to a cookie made with coconut, maraschino cherries, and raisins. It was soft, chewy, and packed with delightful flavors, the perfect ending to a fantastic meal.Everything we tried was a hit. The portions, the flavors, the presentation--it was all top-notch. It's clear that every dish is made with care and a deep love for Trinidadian cuisine. The food is authentic, hearty, and brimming with personality, just like the owner himself.Speaking of the owner, he's absolutely fantastic. His attention to detail, friendliness, and genuine care for his customers made us feel like family. Pepper's Island isn't just a place to eat; it's an experience. We can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu. This is a true culinary treasure!

Rodney is the owner, he's a nice man, still has the value of hospitality in his heart. Even though he sold out of food, he still let us in and we purchased the Herbalade drinks, mine is the lean mean protein, and my bf got the mean leaf greens. He also, had some curry chicken and rice in the back so we decided to get it. The meat is tender, you can tell he cooks with love, and he makes his own pepper sauce, not too spicy and tamarind sauce nice and sweet, with a hint of heat. Good for doubles, which we will be getting Wednesday, because he's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The ambience is chill and inviting, very family orientated. He also gave us mangos from his mango tree, he has three of them. He said they're very sweet and good for mango chutney.

Wonderful place to get the Trinidadian classics.I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the classic doubles and also a doubles with goat curry to go. I also got a bottle of Rooting 4 U (tumeric/ginger lemonade). My food was ready in 5 minutes, and it was packed well with napkins and cutlery. Both doubles were excellent. Good heat from the chickpeas, great texture of the bara, tender goat (warning, the goat does have bones!). I had intended to eat the food at home, but it all smelled so good, I ate it in the car, despite the fact that doubles are a very messy street food. The restaurant is in a more residential part of Ybor, although you will still have to pay for parking or risk a ticket. The restaurant is small and has seating for about 20 people tops. The people I encountered were friendly and so helpful.I'll happily return.

"Came to Pepper Island around 3:00pm on Saturday with an American friend after bragging to her about our local cuisine. Waited in line for fifteen minutes only to be told they had to stop taking orders. Very embarrassing, especially after a 25 minute drive to get there" Solomon C.

I've been a fan of this place from the very start! I've driven as far as Sarasota to satisfy my craving for a taste of the islands. The taste of the food and hospitality they serve is very rare on the mainland! Enjoy , I certainly do!

Title: A Taste of Trinidad in Every Bite!Rating: (5/5)I recently had the pleasure of dining here, and it was an unforgettable culinary journey straight to Trinidad! The star of the show? Their incredible Stew Chicken and Rice! From the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed with warm, friendly smiles and a vibrant atmosphere that transported me to the heart of Trinidad. The restaurant's authentic décor and music set the perfect stage for a memorable experience. Now, let's talk about the food - the Stew Chicken was nothing short of phenomenal. Tender, succulent pieces of chicken bathed in a rich, aromatic stew that was bursting with flavors. It had that perfect blend of spices and seasonings that made my taste buds dance with joy. And the rice that accompanied it? Perfectly fluffy and cooked to perfection, serving as the ideal complement to the flavorful chicken stew. When we want, they only had one dish, but I will be back when they have roti on the menu.

Good food. Good doubles. I'm a little spoiled having eaten Trini food in Trinidad so it's a lil expensive etc imo but it's very good Trini food that you can find in Tampa. The price is also just America in general. The owner is very nice

Amazing service and food was delicious. We ordered the doubles, shrimp roti and veggie roti deconstructed since I have gluten allergies. Was not disappointed. Spice was just right. Will be back again.

My kids took me to this joint on my birthday. The food was authentic, Trini cuisine served up in a clean, cozy, and casual environment. The service was exceptional; and, the staff even joined in on a round of happy birthday. We'll definitely return to Pepper's Island.
