Best hidden gem Cuban in Tampa! Unassuming grocery store with all your Cuban needs but the real treat is the cafe con leche in the front and guava pastries. In the back is where you can get $3.99 sandwiches (price going up to $4.50 in 2022) that are the BEST Cuban sandwiches ever. Far superior to Columbia or any of those overhyped restaurants serving for four times the price. Crispy light airy Cuban bread, ham, pickles, mustard, salami and it's at least 8" long. For $12 we got 2 Cuban sandwiches, 1 cafe con leche, and 1 potato puff.

Don't let the fact that this place is in a convenient store scare you off. Their Cubans are dirt cheap and large! And soo good. They don't have pork on them but I sort of prefer my Cubans without the pork anyway. These babies have the right amount of mayo too -- it's when you have the drippy mayo that runs out of the sandwich when you know you have the perfect Cuban. The bread is so soft and fresh. We called ahead and our order was ready for us when we arrived. Friendly staff. Recommend giving this family owned establishment a try. You'll be hooked.

Papi ' s is another location that has been a happening place for over 20 years. Don't let the location on th west side of Armenia Ave., just north of Hillsborough Ave. Fool you. Don't let the mediocre storefront, similar to a 7'11 fool you, either. Inside those glass doors, I promise you will find a hidden gem of Tampa. The Cuban sandwiches are only !2.99 Yup the reviews are correct, they are a bit light on the meat, but the bread is wonderful. In the back they have a wall with deli meats, cheeses and typical Cuban meats. The prices on these items are also quite good, for the quality. If it's on your way....give them a try, they certainly have served millions of cubans since they opened. What's a girl to do? Ya got to do a little digging, to find the gold.

I've been going to Papi's for 10+ years. Their Cubans cannot be beat. They're always delicious! I always call ahead, so that I can just pick them up and enjoy them at home. I would recommend calling ahead, especially if you're thinking of enjoying a Cuban during lunch. That's their busiest time. The staff there are very nice and greet you as soon as you enter the door. You must try their Cuban sandwich! I can't find another place in Tampa to beat these guys, but if someone does, let me know.

Since I couldn't leave a comment on Google I guess I'll leave one here, I don't know if my experience would have been different if I actually spoke Spanish, but I'm pretty disappointed in My overall experience I recently had here.. this was a staple in my childhood come in here for a Cuban and it has been a hot minute since I've had one when I came in place hadn't changed much, when I got to the counter because I look Spanish the employees automatically started speaking Spanish to me when it became apparent to them that I did not speak it it was like their whole demeanor changed... Then, there's now a food truck out front that sells empanadas and I stopped to get one from there cuz they said it was affiliated with them, and can I just say this was the absolute worst empanada I've ever had... It was mainly pastry and the meat had no flavor whatsoever... The lettuce on my sandwich is completely wilty and basically rotten had to pull it off, and it just makes me wonder if I would have gotten the same treatment if I had in fact spoke Spanish.... I'd post pics if it had a spot to upload.. idk I just was really disappointed.. and to top it off I did feel like I was being talked about in Spanish by the people behind the counter cuz they kept turning around and looking at me and snickering so it really does make me wonder was the rotten wilted lettuce put on there on purpose... Idk food for thought I geuss an the large 7.99 is the same as the 4.99 one... ... I won't be back.

Best Cuban in town, specifically because they don't overload it with meat. I have been to Latin Markets that put more meat on, and the inside is cold. But that is not even the point. I just don't want too much meat on my Cuban and Papis makes it perfectly. I literally have been going here over 20 years and hope they never change their Cubans...normally get a cafe con leche to go with it.
