I always assumed La Teresita Grocery was nothing more than a small Cuban/Spanish grocery store. Little did I know, this grocery store offers the most amazing hot buffet of Latin entrees. The food is not only tasty, but also ridiculously affordable! My friend and fellow Yelper, Gerardo L., was kind enough to show me the ropes at La Teresita Grocery. We met for lunch so that he could introduce me to the infamous chicharron (fried pork belly). After making a stop by the counter for chicharron and a back-up dish (incase I wasn't a fan of chicharron) Gerardo skillfully made his way through the store. He grabbed a lime and an avocado in the produce section and fresh piping hot corn tortillas, hidden in a cooler near the cash register. After selecting our beverages of choice we paid for our food and set up our feast in the small dining area. This dining area has zero atmosphere so I'd suggest enjoying your food at home or driving to MacFarlane park for a picnic.I was instructed to fill my tortillas with chicharron and avocado. After a squeeze of lime and a dash of salt I bit into what can only be described as the holy grail of chicharron tacos. Gerardo was slightly more critical and told me that the chicharron was on the dry side which made it more chewy. While I agree the chicharron was a little dry, it still tasted amazing.I'm now a fan and cannot wait to return to La Teresita Grocery for more chicharron!

As I continued my search to satisfy my overpowering chicken and yellow rice craving, I stopped by my Go-To Cuban grocery in Drew Park. Arriving just before three p.m. on a Sunday, they were cleaning up and closing. No food. I was about to have a melt down.BUT, as West Tampa is but a few stop lights away, I knew there was hope. Driving on Columbus Ave, just East of Dale Mabry, I arrive at La Teresita Grocery, just across the street from La Teresita Café. I quickly checked Yelp reviews, and the 5-star reviews suggested I go in. The steam bar has a good selection of Cuban got dishes, and there was what I needed: Chicken. Yellow rice. Plantains. Then, I saw the price: $5.50. Hoping it's as good as it looks, I quickly pay and sit in a small, unpretentious dining area to enjoy my selection. It was JUST what I was craving! And, the generous portion was enough for another meal the following day! So, if you're looking for a delicious, generous-portion of Cuban food, THIS is It! But, better save some for me!

Holy Chicarrones, Batman!La Teresita Grocery is the real-deal neighborhood Latin market which is owned and operated by the Capdevila family. You'll find La Teresita Grocery occupying a major portion of the retail shopping plaza located along W. Columbus Avenue at the intersection with Lincoln Avenue. The market sits one block to the west of La Teresita restaurant, and a few steps away from La Teresita Bakery.Though deceptively small from the outside, this market has rows and rows of canned and packaged goods; hot sauces, spices, and soup mixes; Cuban coffee; fresh produce; a meat, poultry, fish, and deli counter; frozen food cases; refrigerated cases for eggs, cheese, milk, beer, and sodas (YAY! They have Diet Jupiña Pineapple Soda); baked goods; housewares; cooking utensils, and more -- all geared for the Latin community that they serve.Just inside the front door, and to your left is their famous lunch counter / steam tables which contain all of your favorite Cuban comfort food favorites including main dishes, soups, and sides. Luncheon-sized portions are priced between $5 - 7, You can take your food to go in Styrofoam containers, or carry it over to the nearby communal table and wolf down some deliciousness. Prepared foods can also be purchased in bulk to take to a party or office luncheon. The people working in this market are super-friendly and more than happy to help you find the right items even if your knowledge of the Spanish language is a bit lacking. They appreciate you trying to speak their language, and certainly appreciate you shopping in their neighborhood market. The grocery store is open until 7pm every night, and there is usually a line of people by the lunch counter taking prepared foods home for dinner.Excellent value, well-stocked shelves, delicious food, and super nice people!

My mother had told me. I would be able to find a lot of our Dominican hair products and food ingredients here. Which I did! The people were so nice and helpful. Can you tell...look how much I spent, just to bring back with me to Cali.

There aren't to many places in Tampa that gives me a Miami feel but this place definitely does. I've arrived here today with an empty stomach and im ready to attack. The food seems endless there was pork, beef, fish, two salads, yellow rice, white rice ahh food everywhere. They are also nice enough to let you sample the food before you choose it which is kool. I had pork and avocado salad!! My plate was $4.30 i also grabbed a Heineken for the road. Outside of cooked food you can shop for all your cooking needs and most brands you find here are not in the big stores so take advantage if your trying to cook up a latin cuisine.

This is the only grocery store I have ever dance through, literally. The music was so good! That may not be an important factor for shopping, but it definitely made this place so much more fun for me. Browsing the aisles was like a culinary adventure. The range of different items here was mind blowing. Every turn around a corner brought more interesting things into view. In the end, I ended up with a can of Yerba Mate soda (you won't find THAT at your local Publix!), but I will be back here once I'm armed with some recipes for good Cuban food. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

I tried to call in ahead to order from the food-to-go area. I understand they are super busy at 11am, but the lady who took care of me over the phone was so attentive; she stated there was a huge queue already and i still would have to wait in order for me to get my food. I explained kindly how that was not what i wanted to do as we were pressured for time (i work at an office, it's tough getting a break to have lunch truly) so she offered to solve my issue, took my order over the phone (4 boxes of food) and said she'd hand it over to the ladies at the food counter and when we'd come to pick up, to go ahead and skip the line, saying we had ordered ahead of time. so regarding customer service, i give 100%. regarding the whole grocery store, their products are assorted, good quality, they sell almost everything besides the usual, cleaning supplies, some over the counter medications, kitchen supplies, they have a meat department and their meat and chicken and fish are not bad priced at all. The prepared food is always great, the chicharrones are superb and you can even sit and eat over there. There is plenty or parking for everyone too. they have been in business for over 18 years.

BEST RABO (Oxtail stew) I'VE EVER HAD!!! Pleeease let me know if you try it and think there's a better place. It's just a small Latin/Cuban grocery store with hot plate style servings but everything I've had there has been among the best Cuban food I've ever had in Tampa. Prices are extremely reasonable as you get a container of food with an entree and huge helping of rice and beans for $6-$7.If you like La Teresita restaurant or cafe, you need to walk across the street to this supermercado (I don't believe they're affiliated with the restaurant/cafe) and you'll likely never go back to the cafe.Recommendations: TRY EVERYTHING POSSIBLE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!!! Lechon asado, picadillo, chicharrones, ropa vieja, pollo guisado, chuletas...it's all great!
