Happy Chef Diner

Surprisingly good! We recently bought a vacation home inside of Camp Florida on Lake Grassy! We've driven by this spot so many times and figured why not give it a try!Its much large inside than we would have thought and it was quite busy for a Sunday at 10:30. Sara was our waitress and she was on point! Really all the staff work well together and move with urgency. My first impression was, wow, this staff kicks ass! And they do!The food was prepared very well and not just your standard breakfast prep! Much love and detail goes into their plates and the portions are large. Everything was prepared from scratch with the perfect flavors. I ordered the Smokehouse Breakfast and the portion of Grilled Ham must have been 10oz and so flavorful!Don't let the outside impression fool you and give this hidden gem a try!

I love it when Yelp helps me find the little, lesser known places and this family owned joint really rang all my bells for breakfast!They call themselves a diner, but they are a huge multi-room place right on Route 27 South. This place could seat an army! Atmosphere- The décor is really not diner but old Florida kitsch, but folks are coming here for the great food. Expect bustling servers flying in every direction. This is a breakfast and lunch only place closing in mid-afternoon. I was there on a Sunday morning which leads me to a pro tip-Pro Tip- All hell breaks loose on a Sunday when the after-church crowd piles in around 10:30! Service- I sat at the bar and my server was no nonsense and humorous. She was just fine and kept my coffee topped off but when the church crowd hit she was out of control!Food- Huge American breakfast menu will all the usual suspects. I went with a Meatlovers Omelet with Hash Browns and Toast for $8.95. I would say it was out in about five minutes. BTW- My coffee was excellent.My omelet was massive and packed with breakfast meats and lots of cheese. My hash browns were piping hot and not greasy. One of the many spreads available for your toast was homemade Strawberry Butter. OMG was it unique and delicious!This was a homemade American breakfast at its best. I can't wait to return and try lunch!

Really fun little cafe with friendly staff and diverse menu. Went there on the 4th of July and had an excellent experience!Definitely recommended to anybody looking for a home cooked meal with a friendly atmosphere.

Great value and service for breakfast. Steak and eggs was good, huge steak portion! Will come again.

I went to Lake Placid for a funeral.The family decided to meet at the Happy Chef because it was the deceased family members favorite place.We understood that with Covid seating could be a issue.There were 20 of us.But the host, which I found out later is the owner was rude and not at all wanting try to accommodate us. She told us we should have made prior arrangements, well we tried but they said they didn't do that. She said we could come in and eat as customers left, but not all together.We ended up leaving and went to another place calledMain Street.The place was packed, but we explained our situation and they went out of their way to accommodate us. They even moved tables.The waitresses were amazing and breakfast was excellent. For as many of us as there were , thereWas no complaints about any of the food. All the food came out hot, fresh and delicious. We actually commented about how good it was throughout the day. I don't live in Lake Placid, but when ever I go back this will be one of my go places.Thank you Main Street for making a bad day good.Pat Griffin

Banana Pancakes y'all!!! Sausage and Gravy Biscuits are delicious too! Yes carb deliciousness- but worth it - just keep it in moderation :) we love coming here. Best breakfast in Highlands County!

We have been eating here almost every morning for breakfast. Great food and our server Sara has been very attentive. Try the grilled biscuit with there strawberry butter.

Worst place ever! Ordered pancakes and my friend ordered eggs. Don't know how they could mess up such a simple order but they did. They added red food color to both our orders. I didn't want red pancakes and my friend didn't want red eggs. We complained and they didn't care. It wasn't on the menu or advertised that they die thief food red. I understand it was Valentines Day but we didn't want red food color in our food. They didn't even offer to remake our orders because they said all their pancake mix had the dye in it. Seriously how long would it take to whip up a batch of pancakes?Will NEVER go back!

The food was medeocur at best. The phone number has been disconnectedThe waitress Is excellentThe owner is friendlyMy bakebeans were served with hot peppers. I had to send them back. The country steak was very dry.

We always stop by this little diner on our way through the state on Highway 27.. i really like their breakfasts.. Plenty of parking even when we are towing our Airstream or my 36ft center console... never had a bad meal and the wait staff is always friendly, Saudi is very nice.. new owners are doing a nice job.
