For the morons here that think that they are comparing this little Jem to some $100 plate joint in Manhattan while working for the NYT, and 5 stars is reserved for God alone. You're stupid. A tremendous selection from a daily defined menu, I enjoyed my bacalao today and couldn't eat much more than half of what was served. And I'm a big guy.Fun fact: I was the only guero in the joint. Fun advice: it helps to be able to speak Spanish, but you can point and the cashiers are bilingual, and respond in kind if you speak Spanish to them.

Never knew if my co-worker told me about this little market. I was in town on business and trying to explorer good food. I came in the night and tried their food. Ropa viaja was their recommendation, and they strongly recommended getting yellow rice, so I did. It didn't disappoint. The meat was very tender and seasoned very well. Yellow rice was flavorful too. The portion was large and it was only $8. It's not fancy at all, but it can satisfy your craving. I'll come back.

The BEST Spanish food in Tampa and I've had it all. The mondongo soup was by far the best I've ever had.

One of my go to lunch spots in the Tampa area. Its a Hispanic super market but also has a side room that has a pretty big selection of hot food. A wide selection of Hispanic food including different rices, meats, usually a fish option, soups and sides such as yucca, sweet plantains, mangu etc. it's pretty cheap and they give you a large portion. This time I got yellow rice, lechon (roast pork), boiled yucca in garlic sauce with red onions and 2 waters all for $8. It is definitely enough to share unless you eat like an adolescent hippo. Definitely a great place to practice your español but if you don't speak Spanish just be polite and point. The ladies working are always so kind. My only con would be that the store itself looks a little rundown. There are about 5 tables to eat inside but they usually have rice and whatever the last person was eating on them. If they hit this spot with a lil mop bucket and some windex I would bring it up to a 5 star.

I first went to Oso Blanco with a friend and I was a bit hesitant when I first entered However, once you get passed the grocery portion, the food bar is great! I love myself some good Spanish food. On Thursdays, they have Ropa Vieja. I will tell you that it's a must try. I love that the meat is tender and seasoned perfectly. Of course, you have to get a side of Yucca and sweet Plantains.

I am a total sucker for good Hispanic food -- beans and rice and some adobo chicken and I'm in complete heaven! Decided to come here on the recommendation of my Dominican friend and co-worker and so glad she brought me here. Like many of the authentic GOOD Hispanic places around, the restaurant or hot food area is located within the grocery store. This one in particular is so clean and welcoming! There are so many options to choose from and you can basically eat for less than $8 for so much food. I ordered the yellow rice (which has great flavor and made w/corn in it), oven roasted chicken, and plantains. I really didn't want plantains but I had to choose a side so that's what I chose but really didn't end up eating them as I wasn't in the mood for anything sweet. I really wanted red beans or the juice from the red beans over my rice, but the lady wasn't budging today on allowing me to do this, like other places I've been to. But it's ok because the food was fabulous. I did end up cutting the roof of my mouth on a chicken bone --so if you do get the oven roasted chicken please be careful when eating the chicken. The bone was small and good thing I chew up my food very good, otherwise I would've probably swallowed it and choked or worse! Despite this little mishap which is totally my fault, we had a great experience and great food. It does help to bring someone that speaks Spanish as it didn't appear that the ladies behind the counter spoke very good English so my friend ended up ordering my meal for me and others in our party that didn't speak Spanish. Did look in the supermarket side while waiting for others to finish in the restaurant and some of the pricing seemed rather expensive. They do have a full service deli where you can get meat and cheese cut as well. The hot food area (restaurant) you pay in there and not out in the market area.

What a delight and great assortment of fresh, traditional Cuban foods, meats, cheeses, drinks & even lottery tickets. We have frozen goods, a real grocery store, refrigerated items ( cheeses) & so much more. On the far side, to the right, walking in, is one of the biggest Cuban + some good buffets I have ever seen! The fresh cooked food has daily specials. I tried talking to the proprietors, and they did not speak English. The food looks totally incredible and I wanted to try some. Problem... when I was there no one spoke English. Oh well, prices are prices & some of their prices in produce and meat, as well as grocery are good, but be careful, some prices are high.Once again, the food line is ultra impressive & I wish I could have found someone that spoke English to get some food, next time.Olay check out the picures, if you don't believe me, they have white, yellow & wild brown rice! Did I stutter, I always complain about no one having brown rice, & I walk in and there it is. Daily specials include everything from enchiladas to lasagna & everything in between. The grocery has a sampling of everything with emphasis on Spanish. I did get frustrated with trying to find prices. Many items I was interested in, were not marked & many had no labels. I love the store and look forward to trying out the prepared food. Tonight the prepared food area only spoke Spanish, I probably could have fudged it but, just wasn't in the mood to tempt fate. All looked very appetizing and like I would love to eat it for dinner. What's a girl to do? No Habla Español, but love their food selection.

If in the area this is a good spot to pick up a quick lunch, the cafeteria is located inside the grocery store and it offers several options of food types and combinations. Anything from mangu, tamales, fried, baked or sauced meats, salads and side dishes. Arrive early or you may be standing in line for a while. There is a small sit down area as well

The food here is awesome! We've been coming here for so many years and cannot complain. Looking for traditional Hispanic food? This is the spot for you. I mean they serve everything from rice and beans to Dominican spaghetti (which is the bomb) to pollo asado, etc. There is something for everyone there. Their favor palette is crazy. You cannot complain about lack of seasoning or too much. They know what they're doing when it comes to cooking up good food. My mom usually stops there for to grab dinner for everyone, if she doesn't fell like cooking, and it takes just as good as her cooking. 10/10 would recommend

I really like this place it was full of authentic Spanish groceriess. Fresh vegetables, large meat counter. There was also an area to purchase freshly made dinner/lunch food. The servers behind the counter are not helpful in identifying the food. But, there was a lovely customer who identified the dishes for me. I would have tried the oxtail but getting a small portion seemed to be out of the question.I selected the ground beef dish with green peppers, onions, carrots, and seasoning. The dish had a lot of flavors--I purchased it with yellow rice. It was a very large portion for $8.00. For me enough for 2+ days.I would like to go back to El Oso Blanco to look more at the grocery side of the store. This little store has so much to offer.I went a second time on 2/20/2018 to purchase the fish that is shown. It was worth the $5.00 I paid for it. The fish had been fried although it was not oily like some fried items. Nice flavors to go with it.
