Im not going to claim to be a Mexican food expert or expert on authenticity, but I lived in Cali for about 10yrs, been to Mexico my fair share of times and I have to say this place is a hidden gem in or near Clearwater. After leaving Cali for Florida , I have been searching so good/decen, non watered down or white washed Mexican and this is the best so far. I absolutely despise when businesses decide to cater and change their menus to appease the populace. Don't get me wrong I understand why, but still. This place is legit fire. Nothing fancy here, in fact the place looks like it couldn't pass a health code, and those are the places I love.Got the birria, fire. Got asada burrito, fire. Decided to order some desert, pastor and asada tacos last minute and they were fire. Don't be intimidated or turned away by how it looks in and out, or the lack of gringos, or lack of English, or lack of decor. Probably making this my go to Mexican spot. Just have to figure out how to ask em to make me Carne asada fries, el nacho, no chip, no frijo, fries instead por favor?

Stopped by this small Mexican grocery store for some tacos. Found out the taqueria in the back is now closed. I found the grocery area a bit dingy, and the selection is extremely limited....far less products than every other Mexican grocery I've checked out in the Clearwater area.I'd skip El Hidalguense and go anywhere else, it's that bad.

Really great, authentic, Mexican and Latin American dishes made with love. I had the Al Pastor tacos for takeout and they were excellent. Next time I'll sit and have them there because the vibe inside was so warm and pleasant.

Standard taqueria in a Mexican market. No, it's not a big market, and no, it's not a super active restaurant, but it does the job. We had great service and our food was ready quickly. The portions were generous, but while the salsa was really good, the meat had very little flavor. I'd go back because it's up the street, but it wasn't food I'd go out of my way for.

I have to give them five stars on the food. Who ever owned the place in 2012 wasn't the current owners as they've had it since around 2013 off and on. The food is great, predominantly cooked by the wife, Apolonia as well as her help and her husband, Odilon, at times. I'm going there tonight to order fish. Going to call them up on my way in a few minutes. They're not rich, but they great cooks and pretty darn good people. You might even find the daughters and one of their friends giving the guys dance lessons from time to time. It's kind of like a rural Mexican setting?
