El Cerrito Mexican Restaurant & Grill

So funny, my friend was unaware of any Mexican restaurants in the area. Once he found Applebees, I think that was it for him. We were seated right away after asking if we preferred a table or booth. I wasn't driving, so I ordered a 27 ounce (Monster) margarita. Hey, I could have gone for the 47 ounce - the "SuperBowl"'!The margarita was a bit on the sweet side.Martha kept a good eye on us, bringing out chips and salsa to start. The chips were thin and not even slightly warm. Salsa had a good flavor, not too spicy.I always eat too much and this time was no different. They had a requirement that in order to have mole sauce, you had to order three enchiladas. So I did. Our plates arrived quickly. The mole was complicated and delicious. There was plenty of cheese in my enchiladas and the rice and beans were substantial and had mild flavors. Jim was very impressed with the quality of his meal. So surprised to not only learn of a Mexican restaurant in town but a good one. He is already planning to bring his family here.The place is beautiful with lots of wood. The name of the restaurant is actually sculpted into the wood seat backs of the booths.

At one time I really enjoyed going to this restaurant.Everything I ordered was deliciousThough my last visit will be my last. While sitting in a booth eating 2 German cockroaches were walking along the top of the booth seats.I couldn't finish my meal and thought if they're in the front of the restaurant.They're definitely in the backI am really sad I had to see this would rather Have left it to my imagination as to the bug situationI cannotGo back

Excellent service, large serving, and prices are great!!Love the thin chips and salsa is spot on with some kick but not too spicy Yes this is a fresh food recommendation!

My husband and I recently returned to one of our go to restaurants, EL Cerrito Mexican Restaurant & Grill. This restaurant is consistent on serving good Mexican food. The atmosphere is what you would expect. Service was good and attentive. We started with the usual chips and salsa. I could tell that the chips were not fresh and may have been reused. The salsa and other sauce was good. I don't like cheese drowning in grease all over my food, so I requested that any sauce be on the side which they did. I had the lunch burrito combo with rice and beans. It was pretty basic and very good and well prepared. My husband had the chicken Quesadilla. Two nice Tortilla stuffed with meat, rice and beans, with toppings on the side. I am not a Mexican food person, but have to say they passed.

This has become one our favorite restaurants in the area. Prices are great, food portions are large, and the service is always great. We usually start with fresh guacamole and cheese dip. Every entree we have ordered has been great and the margaritas are the best in the area.

Service was very fast and friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Food could use a little more flavor and some was better than others, but overall what you would expect from your neighborhood mexican spot. We would definitely go again because of the great service.m!

The three dips were all different & the chips were fresh & warm.They had a Taco Tuesday special, ground beef & chicken tacos, with choice of hard or soft shells for $1.99.The margarita was in a super heavy glass full of ice & little to none margarita for $7.49 it was not worth it.The group got tacos & other menu items. I tried the tacos & they were really lacking in flavor, no real taste to them at all. Halfway through my first beef taco, I saw the red ground beef & lost my appetite. The server tried to tell me, it was tomato, sure, I don't know the difference.The bills were mixed up & not one person said they were satisfied & would return.This place is always packed with people & lot's of to go orders, I was expecting a great dining experience, but that wasn't the case.What's a girl to do? Can't judge a restaurant on what you see, you must taste the food & drink.I have to say, no bueno. I will not be returning, but I sure would like to know when y the place is so popular!

Highly disappointed with the good no love at all it taste like chain restaurants and not like the mom and pops Mexican food that I was urging for everything was very bland no flavor highly highly disappointed and I was excited to eat there. The only thing good about it was the Uber lady was super nice so that's one positive.
