Civitan Beach House

Was here for a wedding. It was very hot as all the other reviews have stated. The A/C needs an upgrade. Other than that it was a nice place for a gathering.

It's terrible that such a beautiful venue has someone so awful running the place.Debra Roberts, the owner of a tailored event , tried her hardest to ruin our special day. First, she was an hour late to let us into the venue, when our contract clearly stated we were supposed to have full access at 10am.She blamed the delay on a cleaning company but we found out she didn't want us there because she was showing the venue to someone else. The venue wasn't clean either. The windows and floors were both dirty and the table and chairs were filthy. Some of the chairs even had food on them We spent about an hour just wiping them down.She then lingered and made some snide comments to my aunt, who graciously decorated the entire event, and let it be known that she owns her own event company. I wouldn't hire her if her services were free.At 11:07pm Debra showed up at the venue and got in my face asking "where is your cleaning crew?". I told her that the people that were all left would be helping with the cleaning and she started flipping on lights and screaming that we needed to start cleaning "right now!". She yelled at my DJ and made him turn off the music. She then physically assaulted my wife in the kitchen by shoving her. We asked her to leave the venue until we were done cleaning and she wouldn't. She went to the parking lot and called the cops. We were supposed to have the venue until 12pm but our night was cut short by Cruella De Vil aka Debra Roberts. I would stay away from this place because she will try her best to make you night miserable like she is... go spend your money somewhere that doesn't breach their contract and will actually treat you with respect.

The lady who runs the venue is so disrespectful! Also, the venue is very dirty. I would only recommend booking this place because it is right on the beach. Other than that, for the price you will need your own cleaners and a thick skin to work with the owners.

Cute place. But reading these reviews from the past year or so and being there for a wedding this weekend, seems the manager is still up to her same tricks. She showed up at 11:15 when the venue was booked until 12. Yelled at the wedding party because we weren't cleaning up fast enough and tried getting law enforcement involved. Unprofessional.

You are rolling the dice if you book the Civitan. Just attended a wedding here. Place was booked till midnight. This lady(Debbie?) shows up a little after 11pm and starts bitching because the music was still going. She then proceeded to call the cops (all before midnight) and absolutely ruined what was a great evening. If you want to get married or have an event on the beach I would keep looking.

The only thing good about this place is the amount we paid to rent it. But with that being said the cheap price you pay the cheap crap you get. The AC in this place doesn't work too well in the venue. The AC in the bridal dressing room doesn't work at all. The whole time I was in there trying to get my hair and makeup done I was sweating. I only had a couple other girls in there with me so there was not a lot of people in that room to make it hot. Neither AC unit works. Also we set up everything ourselves and asked the owner what time he would allow us to go in the venue day of. He replied I would have to get with Debbie the wedding coordinator. She apparently is the one that does everything with the place. So I spoke to her and she would let us in at 11am. That is not enough time to set up the whole venue and the ceremony when I'm trying to get ready by 5. We inquired about setting up the night before because the venue was not being used. They charged us an extra $500 to set up the night the before. The first time my daughter went to see the venue she met with Debbie who was very rude to her. I feel like because we didn't use Debbie as the wedding coordinator she was very rude. Also we decided to leave our arch because we couldn't get it home that day so she got this for free. Just in case you're changed a ridiculous amount for it. We bought the arch on Amazon for $60 and decorated it ourselves

Civitan Beach House has so much potential if taken care of better for the perfect beach wedding venue. A little of a week ago we had my wedding there. The restrooms male & females were disgusting!! Each area has a dressing room, stall areas that probably haven't been cleaned in a decade. Dead roaches covered the floor in the male stalls, also hangers and other misc. items were left behind in the stalls in both restrooms. They are very concerned to keep sand off the clean the floors but have never taken the time to actually clean the restrooms properly. Now this is an older building but maintenance on ac units has fallen short. After returning inside from ceremony the temperature read 84 degrees. My sister reached out to Pete to try to find a solution to get the temperature down. When he arrived his solution was nothing, he was very nice but offered nothing but instead said if he lowered temperature ac would freeze up, so he did not lowered ac, leaving 100 guests in an 84 degrees temperature in the middle of summer. I was very disappointed by how hot we all were and very embarrassed the entire wedding constantly feeling the need to apologize to my guests the night of my wedding. I highly recommend if booking this venue checking with Pete & Lauren if these items have been taken care of.

I was at the Civitan for an event recently and I would say to stay away from the place. The venue itself is very cute and really nice outdoor beach view. However the lady that runs the venue, Debbie is extremely rude, truly mean and unpleasant. She makes you feel like you are imposing on her. I have never experienced this level of total disregard from someone in a service oriented business- totally disrespectful. She should not be in this line of work, dealing with people that are looking to celebrate a special day as she is a totally joyless person. She pushes you out before your time is up, she argues and yells at you. I don't recommend paying someone to treat you like this. Find a place that is happy to have your business. Judging from many other reviews- many other people feel the same way.

Myself and two other families hosted a high school graduation party here in June and it was nothing short of amazing. The venue is a perfect location and the inside is spacious. Tons of tables were available to use and a bonus sound system we didn't even know about! A large outside deck afforded the kids in attendance to be outside where there was room for corn hole and cam jam or to be inside with the adults. The only small kink was the parking lot which became bottle neck at times but that was to be expected being directly in the beach. We knew this may be an issue beforehand so no surprises! The location offset any trouble the lot caused. I would HIGHLY recommend this venue to anyone looking. The entire staff was always quick to answer any questions! Would host another event here in a heartbeat!

Decent venue but the lady in charge (Debbie) is unimaginably rude. Always had a negative attitude and treated us like we didn't belong. Made every small task into a large ordeal. We cleaned the entire venue after the reception and she still had the gall to scream at the bride for no reason whatsoever. This should be the last resort, and even then I would recommend hiring a liaison to deal with Debbie.
