Tak is a cool find that gives speakeasy vibes. I happened upon this place two years ago and it's now a favorite that I go to once a week or so.Once you get into the building, you walk down a winding staircase that lights up as you go - it's slightly grunge but then when you open the door, you're transported to this hip, vibey, kpop underground restaurant. The food is delectable and they recently expanded their menu (yay). The food is reflective of drinking culture in Korea and pairs nicely with their korean drinks. I highly recommend the: tteokkochi (sweet and spicy fried rice cakes on skewers - a classic street snack that is very rarely done so well as they do it at Tak).Servers are nice. They even gave me a free shirt with the Jinro character on it! Thank you!

Came in during a late Friday evening for karaoke. Though walk-ins may be accommodated, I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure you have a room available during the time you'd like to come in. The location is somewhat hidden because it's located in the basement level of another building. There's a flyer on the door with the logo of the place and instructions to get buzzed into the building. It took 3 attempts on the intercom and an actual phone call to finally get buzzed in. I would've preferred more signage or at least instructions/specifics in the reservation confirmation on how to get in.We were excited because we were in town for a weekend getaway and decided to do karaoke one night. When we finally got into the building, we could hear how poppin it was downstairs so we followed the music downstairs and were excited. It's really loud inside so you'll have to speak up or get closer to communicate clearly. Upon entering the actual space, I spoke to one of the employees to confirm our reservation and she informed us to wait in the bar area until the room was ready. It seemed that the room we reserved still had people in it and they were not prepared for us which is fine because people have fun and get carried away. We didn't actually get into our room until 15 minutes after our reservation. Once we got into our room, the employee kind of just showed us into the room and shut the door behind her. She did NOT ask if we had been there before or if we knew how to work everything, provide an explanation or tutorial on how to navigate the system, explain how to use the call button for when we were ready to order food/drinks, asked if we needed anything and just seemed very short with us overall. The other young lady that delivered our orders was also a bit short with us slamming the door behind her each time. We did NOT feel welcomed at all.The remote control buttons were in Korean but there was a laminated guide that was translated into English. Still, we did not know how to use it. Thankfully, when we reached out to another employee, Rich, he so nicely walked us through how to navigate the karaoke system and how to use the call button to order. Orders were placed a few minutes after we got settled and everything came out separately within the first hour of us being there. The food and drinks were good and worth the set prices so if you're thinking about coming for the food, I'd recommend it. We ordered shareables, so I imagine the individual entrees are just as good if not better. The karaoke room Itaewon itself was nice. There was enough space and seating for the 5 of us. The room was cool so while we got hot from all the singing, it was nice! Once we finally got the hang of the system, we had a great time. We enjoyed ourselves! The system had thousands of songs to choose from, even including artists and songs that you would not expect to see. I would have liked to see an option to change the language settings on the actual karaoke system though. Nonetheless, Rich's tutorial and tips were helpful. I also think some sort of timer somewhere in the room would be a helpful addition to know how long you've been in there especially because time flies when you're having fun!We were given a 10-minute heads up that the place was closing for the night so they also took away the dishes and empty cups to get a head start on cleaning. It was slightly interruptive but I can understand they probably just wanted to get out at a reasonable time after closing. After we finished up the last two songs, we came out to pay. It was chaotic because there were two other (larger) parties that were preparing to or paying as well. While waiting, I overheard another party talking amongst themselves that they were being charged for 5 hours when they had only been there for 3... while this was likely an oversight, that's absurd and I'm glad they caught it on the receipt before leaving.Due to the long wait, we found Rich and he ended up closing our tab so we wouldn't have to wait much longer. He reviewed the charges with me on his tablet and we were checked out pretty quickly. My overall experience was subpar hence my 2/5 rating. I've been to many karaoke joints across different cities, but this by far might be bottom 3 for me. While my friends and I had a good time despite the initial confusion, the mediocre and lousy service significantly contributes to my review. The lack of professionalism and hospitality was appalling as it created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The large music catalogue, quality of food/drinks, nice set up/room, and Rich were the only good things the place had going. Otherwise, I would not recommend.Shoutout to Rich for being so helpful, kind, and hospitable.**TLDR: the location is somewhat hidden, lousy service (except for Rich), make sure you get a proper tutorial on how to use the system, food/drinks are good, double check charges before paying and make a reservation.

Finally a pocha in Chicago, and in west loop!!! We came here twice and my bf absolutely loved the beef liver in the gopchang. I wasn't a huge fan of anything, but I thought all the dishes were satisfying enough. There's also a big drink selection, and we got the ice cream soju cocktail which was alright. The place itself is very clean and upbeat like a pocha should be, and I usually love the music being played. Everything was on the pricier side (we paid $160 for 3 drinks and 2 dishes), butI'm used to LA K-town pricing.

Tagged along with the guys from Trackhouse as they were in town for the 2nd annual street race. Couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome from the folks at Tak. We tried almost everything on the menu from the deep fried pork dumplings to the slow cooked short ribs. Everything that hit the table was delectable & the service along with the presentation was A1. We loved the cozy, hidden gem vibe this place gave & even sang a song or 2 in between meals. We will most certainly be back the next time we visit Chicago & you should too!

Came here on a Tuesday night at 10pm and ordered the japchae, Korean fried chicken wings, and seafood pancake. They were all SO good. I highly recommend and the service was really awesome! It's a fun vibe inside and they played K-pop music videos when we were there. Just an FYI it's a little difficult to find the place because there's no sign outside. Just a paper on a door that looks like you're walking into an apartment lobby. Overall would recommend and come back!!

Gamja tang: broth is clean and not greasy, not too spicy, meat of the pork rib falls off the bone easily, perilla is really good in itSoy and garlic fried chicken is flavorful and crispy. The regular makgeolli is better than the raw honeycomb IMOFood is good here but it's expensive. I found out the house makgeolli is from a bottle. You can order a bottle for $16 instead of ordering a glass for $8. The bottle itself is like 10 cups. You can also get the bottle itself at HMart for $7.

A cool new Korean underground bar with great vibes, loud music, yummy makguli slushies, and our favorite somaek towers Food is smaller portioned, made to go along with drinks and not so much a full on meal so don't come hungry unless you want to spend a lot $. But the food quality is a solid 7/10.Didn't have to wait long on a Friday night, maybe 10 minutes at most. The door to get in has a sign for directions on how to get access downstairs.Haven't tried out the karaoke rooms but they do seem pretty expensive. Per room, it's around $150/hr on weekends so you'll need a big group to make it worth! Also make sure to reserve your time slot on their website.
