Tacos Calafia - North Phoenix

TC has ruined my life because now I'll be poor- I only live 4 minutes away from this delicious food and won't be able to resist coming here often! Their menu is straightforward and simple, with all of the essential sides except for cucumbers and pickled carrots w/ jalapeños. They don't have (grieve with me) lengua on the menu, but cabeza is a great option. If you're used to Mexicali or Tijuana tacos, expect something different here for the al pastor. You can identify what tastes like ... cinnamon? Different, but great. The pork was super tender. Sometimes taquerias let the pork get all chewy and hard because they don't want to waste it. I didn't experience that. I had a taco de cabeza de harina and a taco al pastor de maíz. Did not try their jamaica nor horchata. The food was salted just enough to bring out the flavor. I appreciate that because my dad is on a low sodium diet- I just added a little more to my own taco. The ambience has good music. It's a typical taco joint- a little echo-ey and on the louder side. Place was clean when I was there, and staff was friendly. It's fresh and fast- the service was def above most fast food places, even if it was just polite friendliness for my to-go order and clean work attire. Oh- lastly, you cannot beat their tortillas. It's so hard to find anything remotely like a real tortilla from MX and theirs are on point. Tasted *almost* like home. Thanks, TC!

So looking forward to eating here. After reading FB reviews. But... Closed for repairs today 6/19/24 at 11:58pm. Maybe next time.

We actually ended up at Tacos Calafia after the place we'd planned on for dinner ended up being closed. Since we'd heard good things about Tacos Calafia, we figured now was a good time to try it. I was very underwhelmed. We order a couple of tacos. I got a carne asada and a al pastor. They come to you plain, naked. Just the meat in the tortilla. There is a "salsa bar" but I felt it fell short of what I was expecting. I like to load my tacos with fresh veggies, a chunky salsa, pico de gallo. There were a few salsa options but they were all very blended, some onions, onions mixed with cilantro, and guacamole. Not much else. There wasn't even any sour cream. Overall we felt it was okay, but not what we were expecting. The building is pretty large and almost a warehouse feel, not an intimate dining spot by any means. More like a cafeteria. And service was good - no complaints there. Just not our thing, but I know many seem to love them so they have a following and we hope they do well. It's not always easy in this area!

I got a promo for buy one burro get one free. So I drove 17 minutes to try this placeImmediately upon arriving at the big spacious restaurant, the salsa bar caught my eye. Check. Festive music was playing. Check.The attendant at the counter was enthusiastic and very eager to help. Check.The burros were quite large and included beans and cheese plus tons of meat Check.The hot sauce at the salsa bar was actually spicy. Check.It may be a bit of a trek for me, but I will be back, even without a promo. This place is one of the best Mexican places around!

I have been here out once and I was pleased with the food and salsa bar.Roomy location, plenty of parking.You order and pay at the register.This place is nothing fancy, very low key.The prices seemed reasonable to me.

I came to Tacos Calafia for lunch. I've been to their Peoria location before and remember enjoying nopales tacos. I decided to order a carne asada burrito this time. It was decent / unremarkable. The asada didn't appear seasoned and the burrito was average sized. The food here is decent but a a couple notches below elite Mexican food in my honest opinion.

Large, clean place with plenty of seating. Food is made fresh with good ingredients (ie the asada steak isn't full of fat and grissle) and the salsa bar offers a variety of items to bring more and spice to your dish. Pretty tasty margaritas for a decent price. Friendly service too.

PEOPLE ARE GATEKEEPINGI have no idea how more people do not know about this place. Everyone must be gatekeeping this so the place does not blow up. I will admit if the Taco Tuesday pricing goes up I will be sad. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the pastor on a shawarma machine (authentic indicator). Went up to the counter and ordered some chicken, steak and pastor tacos. My order came out quickly. The tacos are served tortilla and meat only. All the toppings you get to put on yourself at the bar. This is really nice since you can put on all the guacamole your heart desires and it does not cost extra. I recommend when you pick up your food, you also ask for the grilled onions and jalapeños. My favorite meat was the pastor. There is not a reason to go to chipotle over here, and if you think chipotle is better, you must not be sane. Overall, if you want some awesome tacos with an even better Taco Tuesday deal, this is the place to go.
