What a hidden gem! Stumbled on Taco Express since waiting for diagnosis next door. The owner Celso truly is the epitome of the Joie de Vivre! The joy of life! He greeted us and chatted with us a bit, 35 years in business downtown and at his taco shack here for 3 years.We weren't too hungry so we shared the 4 Tijuana-style Street Tacos plate that comes with dollops of guacamole & green/red salsa. Mmmm... wish I had more tummy room but those 3-bite tacos were perfect, so flavorful and fresh! Will have to come back down in a couple months to drop off the van for repairs, and am already eyeing the menu to order ahead for pickup before I Uber back up to LA.

Tried Taco Express while on a day trip to the San Diego area and was thrilled to find a family-owned, super-autentico Mexican restaurant. The owner is very friendly, calling everyone "amigos" and making us feel right at home. The burrito al pastor was yummy, and the varied menu offers pretty much any kind of Mexican dish one could want. There are a few booths inside and some tables on the outside patio and the owner made sure everyone was comfortable and happy throughout the meal. Definitely will be back!

Went by a few times in the last month. There is a lock box on door and looks like it is closed up. Sad day, hope the owner is okay. I miss him and his food.

Yelp currently says Taco Express is open. It isn't as I just drove there for lunch. It's closed and there's tape across the small parking lot. I'm very sad about this because Celso and his small restaurant is (was?) a true hidden gem. The food was always top notch and Celso's welcoming personality was just icing on the cake. I hope this is just temporary and the place opens again soon.

The owner, Celso, is the BEST.Due to some miscommunication between my boyfriend and I, I had to come to the shop 20 minutes after they closed to pick up an order my bf had made. Celso was so patient and understanding with the situation and I'm so grateful! I also was in such a hurry (came straight after work from North County) and didn't realize they didn't accept Apple Pay. I ended up having enough in quarters (Clearly I'm a mess, lol) but as I was counting them Celso ensured me that he would have been alright with me coming again another time to pay.Support small businesses and great people; definitely recommend Taco Express. Great food too!

Can I give more than 5 stars??? This little hidden gem is amazing! I found this place by luck while looking for good albondigas soup - was it good? Nope, it was great!! Best albondigas I have ever had. So good, in fact, that (embarrassingly enough) I have been back almost every single day for the last month for soup at lunchtime. The owner is so nice, and you just feel welcome, and he really seems to appreciate his customers. My husband has tried the rolled tacos, the carne asada fries, and the California burrito and said they were all super good. Great tamales and enchiladas, too!! Looking for A+++ food? Look no further!!

First time eating here. It doesn't look like much because it looks like a house that was converted to a restaurant. The owner was wonderful. You can tell he cares about his business. The food was also good. We had the adobada , and Al pastor tacos. They were delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone.
