In short:You've had hand pies several times from other culinary traditions; think of these as being similar to empanadas, just known by another name.In long:I've had these samsas a few times now, because they used to cater lunch at the office at my old work. They've been consistently delicious for 5 years. They're a little smaller than your hand, and stuffed with maybe an inch of filling. 2 of them will fill up quite a few people. The truck itself is hard to miss. It's a Sprinter van, and the longest one I've seen. Big signage on the sides. They posted up Friday in a neighborhood near me. I ended up getting dinner for everybody, so I got to try most of the menu, at least in bites here and there. We got the beef, cheesy beef, chicken, squash, and spinach samsas. The squash ones seemed almost dessert-y, because baked squash is not far off baked pumpkin, which the typical American (like me) thinks of as dessert pie in the autumn. The others were all unmistakably savory entrée pies. The great thing about these is how light, flaky, and un-greasy the dough is on every one. The fillings are fantastic, too, but they've absolutely nailed the dough. Each one was about $6, and they do offer sides, though I just loaded up on samsas and off I went. I hope to see this truck more often for sure.

A crispy meat pie with a lot of extra spice for that extra delicious flavor. I was very curious to try the vegan one with potato and mushroom but they were very limited on Vegan quantities so I saved it for someone who may actually be Vegan and chose the $6 beef samsa. Its a lot of ground beef inside of a flaky puff pastry and the flavor is good. I tried them at a Sounders game and it was a nice snack to have while enjoying the match. Although the inside is filled with lots of flavorful ground beef, the filling lacked something for me so I wasn't quite full and could have definitely had another! I suggest you try two flavors.

I was so excited to see the Tabassum food truck with these vegan hand pies at our church community event tonight!! I wasn't expecting to find a lot of vegan options, so this was awesome, and they were delicious!! The mushroom potato one was my favorite, it had a delicious blend of savory spices with a little bit of sweetness reminding me of curry with cinnamon. Fantastic!!

I tried one of their pies earlier today at the Sodo flea market. It was okay. I asked for the curry chicken pie and either they skimped on the curry or they gave me the wrong pie (not sure what else it could've been because it was chicken but they have no other chicken pies on their menu) because there was no curry flavor. Pretty disappointing in that regard. The pie was a little bigger than my palm and very stuffed with filling. The bottom of the pastry was very soggy, but on the upside that meant the filling was hot and juicy. It was $6/pie, up from $5

It's great to see these guys are still in business! I remember them two years prior to the pandemic. They were parked outside my office complex and their big pie display on side of their truck sparked my attention.Back then the young gentleman told me that he was just starting this business. He then kindly explained to me all the delicious varieties of pies he had to offer. After trying their beef, mushroom, and spinach pies... I have always been very satisfied with their food. The exterior texture of the pastry is very soft and had just enough crunch to it. Once you start digging in you really can't stop, haha. You can taste all the delicious ingredients inside the pastry. Slightly moist, not heavy on the sodium, but just right... at least for me.Now that they are back, I saw they had more additional items on their menu, fantastic! Once again I went for their Spinach Samsa. :) Next time around though I plan on trying their other new items.Highly recommend everyone if you want something savory in a small pastry form and that doesn't make you feel overly full. Oh I also had their Carrot Salad, also a very good, however it was a bit on the garlicky side. Enjoy!

Tried the plov (beef over rice dish), beef samsa, and chicken curry samsa, over two meals, along with a nutella pastry dessert they offered on the side. All of this food was outstanding! Though between the beef and chicken curry samsa, I'd probably go with the chicken 7 times out of 10, just based off personal preference. The little carrot salad and beet salad offerings were a huge hit with our gang as well. So seemingly simple, but loaded with flavor and texture.

Good truck was outside my place of business and the menu sounded interesting. I ordered the Cheesy Beef Handpie and it came out super fast. Wait time - less than a minute.Flaky crust with well seasoned beef and onions on the inside. Delicious! I'll definitely be on the look out for the food truck again. I'd love to try other items in the menu.

Super yummy hand pies! I'm always excited when I see that the Tabassum food truck is coming to my area. The hand pies seem to be already prepared, so the food service is extremely quick.Chicken Curry Samsa: The chicken was plentiful and very good, didn't feel too dry at all. The curry flavor was delicious, but not too overwhelming.Beef Samsa: The beef felt a little dry, but no big deal. There was a lot of beef, onion, and cumin, making it a very flavorful snack. The puff pastries did not feel too oily or buttery, which is something I often find with pastry-type foods. Overall, Tabassum has some pretty good hand pies and I can't wait to have more!
