I've been here before and I recall an average or even below average experience. Therefore, I was hesitant to return, but I'm so happy I did! The menu has been revamped and I really enjoyed the food today. The table got fried tofu and cheese ragoons for starters, both were 10/10. The tofu were perfect bite sized crunchy pieces paired with a sweet sauce. The ragoons were fried to golden brown and were so delicious. I got the bbq pork Thai fried rice and it was packed with flavorful ingredients. I also got to taste the chicken pad sew ewe and it was equally as delicious. The service was average and the ambiance casual. Overall, amazing food. I love the new menu and I can't wait to return!

Overall Thoughts: Located right off the Western Blue Line stop, Sweet Rice is a casual Thai restaurant with ample indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. I especially enjoyed the Basil Duck Rice entree and Sweet Rice Durian dessert. The menu is quite expansive though, and I'd be happy to come back to try more dishes!Food I tried:- Chicken Satay: A solid appetizer! Peanut sauce was creamy, and the chicken was tender and flavorful.- Gui Chai: These made good appetizers too with a well-fried, crispy exterior and soft interior.- Basil Duck Rice: This was super delicious; I'd definitely get it again. It was sautéed perfectly with deep pockets of flavor-- the duck is tender and juicy, the fried egg is crispy, the rice is soft and flavorful.- Vegan Duck Noodle: This was my least favorite dish out of everything we ordered. The noodles weren't very flavorful, and the vegan duck was a let down-- It's made differently than the ones typical of NYC Thai restaurants, so it just didn't hit as much.- Sweet Rice Durian: As a durian fanatic, I loved this dessert-- it's a unique one that you won't find on most other Thai menus in Chicago (other than at Sticky Rice, which is owned by the same family). It was quite soupy, and the combination of the warm coconut sauce, the creamy durian, and the sticky rice that instantly soaked up all the coconut and durian flavors was just perfect. Split between 3 people, the price was ~$25/pp including tax/tip, which was good for the amount of food we got.-- Price (relative to peers): 4.4/5Food: 4.4/5Ambience: 4.7/5Service: 5/5Overall Value: 4.5/5

My interest in Sweet Rice Asian Kitchen came after a search of restaurants within a radius of my residence offering delivery. At the time, Sweet Rice Asian Kitchen happened to be the one that captured my interest and ranked number thirteen during my search. On an evening where I just wanted to lounge around in my pajamas without driving anywhere in my vehicle around Chicago, I ordered online via yelp with Grubhub delivery. Since I am vegetarian, I was drawn to a few of the vegan options on the menu, particularly the Vegan BBQ Pork Noodles! Oh honey, the sight of it with all of its features literally made my mouth salivate. I admit, I am weak when it comes to anything barbecue! There, I said it, tehehe. And I loved that there were spice levels because as one who is not fond of spicy hot foods, it played an influence in me ordering as well. It took thirty-five minutes from the time my order was acknowledged by Grubhub to the arrival of it at my residence. A shout out to the Grubhub delivery driver for making that happen in that astonishing time.I could not resist moaning after eating each delicious forkful, or um, slurpful! The vegan barbecue had a sweet taste that I simply enjoyed and anticipate having with brown rice in the foreseeable future. I finished this satisfyingly good meal with a smirk on my face, and a... belch, tehehe. With all aforementioned, I would gladly order from Sweet Rice Asian Kitchen again whether it be in-restaurant order, or online via yelp with Grubhub delivery. One of the things I discovered after it caught my interest online via yelp, is that I have driven by it numerous times along N Western Ave.Service: 5 | Atmosphere: N/A | Food: 5Recommendations: Vegan duck noodle, Vegan BBQ pork noodle, Vegan BBQ pork rice, Basil vegan duck rice, Veggie potsticker, Veggie egg rolls, or Vegan kimchi dumplings ~ Always be grateful. ~Thomas G

Summary: Strong variety of Asian cuisines and dishes, all executed well. My star of the show was the coconut ice cream, and I am making this review almost directly as a result of it. Probably a top 3 Chicago dessert to me.The good: The staff is friendly, the amenities are clean, portions were reasonably large, and the service is quick. They offered us a free Thai Ice Cream since we ordered so much (though it was a bit over-frozen, so tough to enjoy). Again, the coconut ice cream was chef's kiss. Would love to get it again. The bad: Not bad per say, but there were certain dishes that I expect to be crisped a bit more (like the kimchi fried rice in the photo). It's served in a stone bowl, but the rice was a bit too moist to crisp on the bottom. The ugly: Nothing to note!

One of those places you pass by all the time and then wonder why the heck it took you so long to finally go in. Amazing eats here with lots of veggie options which always makes me feel right at home. I started with dumplings and the bamboo shiitake salapao (steamed bun), perfection. Then for main I opted for the tom kha soup with tofu, which is a hot and sour coconut soup with mushrooms, cilantro and flavor galore. Just a really comforting meal honestly. They have quite a mix of Asian fare too so you can go a more dim sum route or Thai (or both if you're greedy like me). Love this spot and it'll be one of my regulars now.

Okay this place was kinda a sleeper hit for me, tucked under the western blue line stop, I was really pleasantly surprised to have a hearty, absolutely scrumptious, comforting meal at this casual spot! I had the kha soi chicken, which came with toppings of red onion, cilantro, pickled vegetables that had a lovely tang, and a big squeeze of lime, and BIG chunks of tender chicken. The sweet sticky rice with banana and beans was SO SO SO good, if you are a sticky rice believer I highly recommend.
