Both chef Abraham and Willy were incredible!!! My wife and I decided to come back from our recent experience a week ago and they were consistent. The food was exceptional and the service was amazing. It is our 14 year anniversary and we could not have picked a better spot! We had the pleasure of meeting Ivan who made us feel like we have been here for years. They made our anniversary special and memorable.

Stopped in on a Wednesday...was drawn in by the nice crowd and relaxing ambiance. The place looked amazing. Clean, beautiful, eloquent. We were greeted by the owner, a young restauranteer with great vision for the place. He was very pleasant as was the experience. The food was superb. Appetizers, drinks, all. The rolls impressed for sure...I highly recommend the beach boy roll...will literally make u roll your eyes in the back of your head with a divine hit of dopamine straight to the head...the Poway was another winner. Needless to say, will be frequenting this spot more often.

Called in thinking it was Kai sushi. I like to just get their takoyaki to-go. I was thrown off when I was told it was a new restaurant but decided to just order anyways because I was told we could order from their old menu. I thought this meant the dish would be the same. Spent $15 on one little to-go box of takoyaki.It only includes 4 pieces, and they put spicy mayo on it. Takoyaki is not supposed to be served with spicy mayo. Tasted like oil. Interior is newly remodeled and lacks the warm home feeling it used to have.

Located next door to Fed Ex in same plaza as Brigantine. Plenty of parking. Came for lunch on a Tuesday. Not only do they have lunch specials until 2:30, but they have Happy Hour all day Monday to Wednesday! What a steal on prices.We got the salmon teriyaki bento box that came with miso soup, rice, 4 piece CA roll, ginger salad, and mixed tempura. The mixed tempera was the same size as my entree mixed tempura! Had I known that, I wouldn't have ordered the entree.Also got two rolls, the crunchy shrimp roll and chili mango roll. I prefer my crunchy roll to have more tempura flakes. I'm a sucker for rolls with mango. The chili ponzu gave a tiny kick and the mango was sliced really thin giving you a slight sweet and tart refreshing taste.I've had better Takoyaki where there's more octopus. This one had a lot of the doughy wheat flour and one full chunk of octopus. I like mine chopped up in many pieces to have it evenly distributed in every bite. Otherwise, each bite consist of all dough and one bite with the octopus like in this case.All in all, it got crazy busy during lunch. Great quality food, quick service, loved the options. Nice size dining and bar seating. I will need to come back and sit at the bar to have some amberjack sashimi and nigiri.

I was a regular at the previous establishment for several years. In fact, I grew up in Poway and for a while owned a house within walking distance. My fiancee, stepdaughter and I drove by a couple weeks ago only to find the previous establishment unfortunately closed down, but we saw the sign that a new sushi lounge was opening up soon, so we decided to curb our craving and go elsewhere. My fiancee and I decided to cruise by today to check out the new place a few days after their opening and had a phenomenal experience. We decided to sit at the bar and our sushi chefs were Oscar and Julio and we were waited on by Ivan. During our lunch we tried a number of different items and we were legitimately blown away by everything we ordered. We both started with a bowl of miso soup, but quickly moved on to something a little more filling. We had bluefin nigiri with a topper of toro at the recommendation of Oscar as well as yellowtail nigiri with the same topper. My fiancee had the ceviche roll while I had the crispy albacore role and both rolls were incredible, I have no other way to describe them. In addition to these I also had scallop nigiri which was topped with a spicy mayo that was fired with a torch. As a fat guy that loves scallops, this roll was incredible and had a fantastic finish and flavor.All said and done, everything we had was perfect. Although we loved Kai sushi, after hearing of the owner's retirement, we understood the reason for the change. Sushi Roka is an outstanding establishment with incredible food, great service and is a family-owned business of which the proprietors are proud of. Just like the previous establishment was for many years, Sushi Roka will be my go-to sushi establishment in Poway and I'd recommend it to anyone in the area. Although it's been updated a little bit, the upgrades were done tastefully and didn't completely change the ambiance of the restaurant. It was nice to sit at the bar, enjoy some fantastic sushi and be able to catch the Padres game on the TV.

So we were big fans of the sushi restaurant that was bought and changed to Sushi Roka. I will say, the entire atmosphere has completely changed. It is significantly louder inside now, with music being played loudly so we had to shout over it. The new tables are relatively uncomfortable, going for the minimal look, the chairs are not really comfortable to sit in.Food wise, the menu is significantly smaller than it was, with less roll options. The quality of the food was still good, but it took a long time to get our rolls, and we had to send one back because it was wrong. I will say that service was the main redeeming factor. Our server was great, she was super attentive and made sure we were taken care of. Definitely willing to give Roka a second chance. We'll see if it happens.
