Screaming, crying, throwing up still thinking about the dinner from Sushi Kuma. Believe the hype - this spot is officially up there with one of my favorite sushi spots. And in BONNEY LAKE no less?!I saw some photos from Sushi Kuma on my activity feed and the way they present their dishes was enough for me to come in. It's so beautiful and more than ready for your Instagram foodie photos. It's in an unassuming strip mall type of place, so there's lots of parking. We came on a Thursday night and we were the ONLY diners the entire time (y'all, please get in here and change that!) I wish they were busier, but glad we were able to seat with no issue because it is on the smaller side.We got the gyoza, California Roll, and the Baked Lobster Roll. Our order also came with complimentary miso soup which was super good! The gyoza was also tasty. The California Roll was made in a different way than I've ever had, but I was a fan - the inside was stuffed with avocado and cucumber, and then the TOP was packed with fresh, delicious crab. The Baked Lobster Roll absolutely stole the show, being served still on fire and torching the roll. It was packed full of lobster and my boyfriend is now calling it the "best sushi he has ever had" which I can just about agree with. It was AMAZING and worth the splurge! The only downfall was the service was a little lackluster. There was a newer waitress training and whoever her trainer was seemed really annoyed to have us there that evening but the food and atmosphere made up for her making us feel a tad unwelcome at times - it was the end of the evening, so maybe we just came at a bad time! So glad to have found a new favorite not too far from home and will definitely be back soon.

First time coming here. The outside isn't very inviting and we weren't sure if it was actually open or not. The inside is very nice though and the bathrooms are clean, and are also nice. We were the only ones there as it was about 3pm on a Sunday. We ordered gyoza and the spicy tuna tacos. The gyoza was good but the tacos were better. Not a huge fan of the tobiko on top. The rolls were also very good. I have to say, the pricing was very expensive. If I need a fix to get sushi in a pinch, I would come back here again.

I'm honestly upset at this restaurant and I will tell you why!How dare you open such an aesthetically pleasing restaurant, with amazing quality and tasting sushi, during the worst inflation in XYZ years, at the prices you carry?! I'm mad because the quality and taste were honestly amazing, but their prices are so wild to me, especially because it's freaking Bonney Lake. Their rolls are upwards of $20-30, which is definitely above most places around. The shooter was a surprise to us transplants because we haven't found a sushi place up here in WA that has them until now, and it's $15, while back down in socal we were ordering them for like $8. Theirs is still better because it comes with sea urchin, hence the price. Kuma uses real crab in their rolls and every fish we tried melted in your mouth. Fish to rice ratio was exactly right and the chefs were so chatty and approachable. They gifted us some yuzu ice cream and we were honestly blown away at the tangy and fresh flavor. So yes, I'm mad because I can't just come every week, but I do recommend you try it!

Excellent authentic food, excellent service and beautiful cozy space. Presentation is out of this world! This is a classy place! Pricey but worth it! Be prepared for raw fish, there is lots!

I came here for lunch with a friend, and it did not disappoint! The server was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant was decorated so beautifully; it was a peaceful and serene atmosphereThe food was delicious! Next time, I'll be clear on each dish I order that I need it to be vegan. I told the server I am vegan, but I think there was a language barrier or a misunderstanding of the word, because the shishito peppers came with tiny shrimp and the Agedashi Tofu had bonito flakes. I'm not taking any stars off for that because it certainly wasn't negligent on their part. I'll just be clearer next time.My friend and I both enjoyed our food and highly recommend it!

Wife and I grabbed lunch here. Beautiful decor and kind staff. The sushi was incredible. Fresh and very well prepared. We ordered the agedashi tofu as a starter. For mains, I had the chirashi bowl and wife had a roll and uni. The tofu was unreal. Light batter, crispy and awesome flavor. The sashimi was super fresh and an absolute treat! Each component was exquisite. We loved the food and the staff were very attentive as well. We will be back but the price (for lunch) was expensive so visits will not be as frequent as we'd like.

I went here yesterday and tried the chirashi. The quality of the sushi was really good and everything had a lot of flavor. They even use high quality ingredients such as real, fresh wasabi! I was also very pleased with the presentation. I had mixed feelings about the staff, the waiter who waited on me had excellent customer service skills, but the sushi bar staff seemed a little cold and did not really talk too much. I suppose I'm accustomed to going to higher end sushi restaurants so expectations are quite high, especially when I am paying premium prices for Japanese food.Although I am quite pleased with everything, the main reason I cannot give this place a 5 star rating is because of their outrageously high prices. They are charging almost as much, if not more than high end restaurants in Bellevue, Redmond and Seattle, however they are not quite on the same level as them when it comes to service and food.I don't think I would go out of my way to go back unless they bring their prices down a little bit.

I regretfully have to update my review because although my first visit was a positive one, my last visit will be my last visit.About a week ago i took some friends from out of town to sushi kuma on a Wednesday night and when we were seated around 6:30 there was just one other occupied table nearby. We ordered appetizers to start: chicken Karage, usuzukuri, and negihama. The chicken karage was good and gone in seconds. The highlight of our meal.At that time it was around 6:45 and we saw there was happy hour from 7-9p so we asked if we could order a merlot at 7p under the happy hour prices. To our surprise, the waitress said that happy hour prices were only for guests that arrived after 7pm. When asked if she could just put the order in after 7p like a lot of other places, she stated that they are slow and trying to get more guests in after 7p so they can't make an exception since we were already dining there. We asked if my nieces (under 10 years old) could at least get the free ramune drink they offered kids for happy hour and she also declined. While I understand "rules are rules," they had a real opportunity to make us repeat customers by showing us a great experience. I know it was within their power because the waitress said she came up with the happy hour rule herself. Additionally, only one other table was seated while we were there. They had the resources and time to deliver exceptional service and simply chose not to. But I digress. We ordered our sushi and it came out in a timely manner. However, the waitress dropped a fried shrimp head that was part of my friends meal. She went back to the kitchen and they fired up a new one. She started walking towards us again and dropped the new one. While we were all watching. She decided to leave it and delivered the sushi to my friend without acknowledging what happened. At this point, we were all so disenchanted, we didn't bother bringing it up. We just wanted to finish our food and get out of there. Unfortunately, the sushi was not good enough to redeem the front of house.I had high hopes for sushi kuma since I live nearby, but this was such a poor experience, I won't be returning.

60 reviews and almost a perfect 5 star rating. You don't see that often. How is there not a line out the door all day every day? I think us locals are keeping it a secret. All I know is, this place is by faaar the best sushi in Bonney Lake. Possibly all of Pierce County and can compete with the best in Seattle and Bellevue. This place is legit. But! You get what you pay for. Bill goes up real quick and it's worth it. So, don't come in expecting conveyor belt sushi and fake krab in every roll. You can go to Sumo Sushi if that's more your speed. Come here for delicious high quality sushi with amazing service. There has not been a single thing I have ordered that I did not like. Enjoy!
