Having previously experienced various omakases and visiting from California, I can confidently say that this omakase is worth it. Sushi | Bar seats 12 people right in front of the sushi chefs. It's a very intimate experience and both chefs were creating each dish at the same time, one after the other. Sushi | Bar offers a 13-dish omakase plus a crafted dessert. I chose to add black truffles to my scallop dish, but since I'm allergic to scallops, they kindly substituted it with salmon while still adding the black truffles. The attention to detail was impressive, ensuring my water was always filled and I had enough pickles. The two sushi chefs were friendly and easy to converse with, making my meal at Sushi | Bar thoroughly enjoyable.

Incredible experience at the new sushi bar hidden in the back alley of Michigan Ave and Wabash inside lady May. We were greeted with a welcome bee's knees drink. The Omakase itself is a unique take on Omakase sushi stepping away from the traditional Japanese approach of simplicity. The flavors and textures of how the pieces are mixed and matched are special and every piece stood out in its own right drawing from Tex mex and a lot of pan-Asian flavors. With that being said, if you are looking for an omakase experience that is a bit more traditional, this may not be your go-to. All 3 chefs for our party of 12 were all engaging, friendly, and detailed, preparing every piece intricately. The service was outstanding as well! Would recommend for anyone looking to try add a new Omakase place done well to your list!

So creative, high quality, fresh, fun, and delicious. If you've tried the other more traditional omakase restaurants and want something different, this is the spot. Luxury ingredients, each bite was a little piece of heaven. The chefs were so personable, they really nailed everything, we were impressed with the service overall. We had a bottle of sake that was lovely as well. 10 out of 10 would recommend and we will definitely be back!

The good:Sushi is amazing. The flavors are creative and work well together. SB is truly a unique experience and that's why you might go: for the experience. Staff is extremely friendly and the space is well designed and very clean. This is new to Chicago about 2 months since its opening. But...it's a shiny object and here's the truth: The bad:Very expensive: we opted for the up-charge to both get caviar and truffle. We were charged quite a bit per person...however, we were never told or notified we were actually receiving this!? Instead - I asked nearly towards the end of service and was told we were fed it already - however it seemed like what we received was what everyone else did so I felt a bit scammed. I never felt like the extra stuff was pointed out so I didn't know either way. My advice would be to actually acknowledge who ordered what and show them! Lighting is poor and you can't really see what you're getting. They don't want you using flash which I understand but they need better lighting to showcase their fare better. Since you have track lighting - maybe install a pin spot over each place setting. It would be really nice to see what's there. The entire staff while very friendly have really no speaking skills. They're trying and they're all new at this so I want to cut them some slack. But even in the beginning when the host was trying to tell the group (this is only a 12 seat dining experience - all 12 sit at the sushi chefs table so to speak) the host was speaking so softly - while music is playing that no one can hear her. I think she was telling us the rules and what to expect?Same thing inside the room: where the chefs while extremely nice- speak so softly that while they're explaining all these amazing ingredients you can't hear or understand them. They say these culinary words so fast that it's all a mashup. There's no clear announcing - what I suggest for the amount you're charging is to print up a clear description of everything (the evening's menu) and let the people take it home as a remembrance. Since there are 3 seatings. We chose the first one and it feels rushed. They throw it down, you eat with your hands!!?? No chop sticks - no napkins...just a cold wet towelette that is quite gross. We thought it was a towelette to wash our hands prior to service - but they never picked it up and I was told that's my evenings napkin! They rush you out because the next 12 person group is waiting at the door. My suggestion is to always provide clean napkins and leave chopsticks available. Maybe rotate the wet towelettes and provide 2-3 per service? Sorry but eating with your hands isn't good - bad idea. Especially the pickled salad: why force us to eat this drippy salad with our hands? The saki pairing was good - but also expensive about $100 a person and the pours weren't equal...if you were first great... but if you're last you knew it and you got half a pour. Plus he didn't clearly explain each and again, bad speaking skills. No one seems to be the main front person - it's odd - and I can't see this ever being a place we would go again. It's definitely a one and done sort of place. We spent $853.38!!and seriously went for pizza after- I am not kidding. It was good but so are a lot of sushi places and we would have spent maybe $50-75 a person and been full. It's all show but the show isn't that good. It was a let down. I'm sure they can build on this but I don't see it lasting. What I do see are other good sushi places serving this style - better, less expensive and will provide a better value. They include 22% service charge and then try to get you to tip again!?I feel suckered and a bit Pist-off to be honest. Save your $400+ per person and go elsewhere.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sushi Bar. Chef Marcos, you are a shining star. First things first, THANK YOU for this experience. If you love sushi and even if it isn't your favorite, this is a whole new experience. So much so we came to the Chicago location after visiting the Sushi Bar in Austin, Texas at the end of August. We were told that they might be opening up a spot so here we are. Hands down, the best sushi. We can't say enough good things. If you can make a reservation, just do it. I didn't take many photos bc I wanted to enjoy the experience, again. You won't want to either! The chefs explain each piece as they make them for you. A very intricate process. Beautifully done. Thank you times one million.

This sushi restaurant was fun and tasty. The chefs were very delightful and made the omakase experience relaxed and enjoyable. The menu was right in front of you, and they tell you about each piece as you bite into their freshly made nigiri. The pickled vegetables were much better than the usual gari, refilled without asking. The sake pairing was amazing; two of them were really good (can't remember all the names, sorry). Omakase for 9-10 people per time, I think. The nigiri was well-prepared and enjoyable because they added different styles to each piece. It's within walking distance from home, so very conveniently located. The name tag was fun because you can talk to anyone or everyone by their names.

Pictures of 10 of the 16 piece omekase. One if the best in Chicago so far. Sushi chefs were very friendly and explained each piece in detail. Quite knowledgeable about where the fish is from and type of texture. The ingredients used to bring out flavors is well chosen. Place is tucked inside of Lady May . Feels like you are going to a omakase speak easy place. We loved the experience.

One of the best experiences I've ever had dining wise! Everyone was so friendly and explained everything so well. My boyfriend and I came for a celebration and were perfectly taken care of. Food was incredible and every bite was savored so well. They even let us enjoy pieces for a second time at the end, which we could not pass up! The coziness and intimacy of it all was the cherry on top and I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my saturday night.

The food was good but service and attention to detail were far missed. For a birthday dinner - it was far under par. I definitely have had better sushi experiences in the city. A complimentary cocktail was given prior to the dinner which we did not receive because we were 5 minutes late - now we could have still been given the beverage to enjoy with the meal. Instead were given a menu to purchase drinks - a little off putting to not even mention nor offer the welcome drink. Next, the team reached out multiple times about my allergies - despite all of that. Twice I was served an item with my allergies and then I had to call it out when they described what it was. If they didn't, I would have eaten something that I"m allergic to. Now, when I stated it, I was given a substitute with not even the fish the original dish was - that's rude. And they have the quantity when there are other services. If I am going to get the leftover fish, I can go elsewhere. But for a restaurant of this caliber to give a customer food containing their allergies is beyond unacceptable - not at this level of service. To say the least, I won't be returning. And if you have allergies, you can count on them not being diligent about them.

Mind blown. Such an amazing Omakase experience! Being in such an intimate setting, being able to talk to the chefs as they create the tastiest creations, was just amazing. Each bite is more creative and more delicious as the meal goes on! Such decadence, such flavor! The drinks, the service, the company, it all added up to one of the most memorable dining experiences I've ever had.
