Ok, who's mama is in that kitchen cooking up a storm?! Within seconds after shutting the car door with the prized goods inside, the mouth-watering smells filled the entire car. I could not wait to get home! It brought back such wonderful childhood memories....To start, we followed the ordering instructions on the website - online ahead of arrival. This is SUPER important since only street parking is available. The communication from the business is great - email receipt, email order confirmation, and a text message also with order confirmation, pickup timeframe, and, as noted, we texted them when we arrived and they delivered curbside (or, at the fence/sidewalk) with a smile (we saw it in their eyes!).The Buffalo Lemon Pepper Chicken Tenders was a new twist to an old standard. My husband is somewhat of a chile-head and he liked them. He said he felt a bit of a kick and he noticed the lemon too. We both had the greens.. ooh wee! Smoky, tender, and with a little kick in the pants - just like I remember from childhood at congregation get-togethers. I had the Signature Tenders, which were so well seasoned and perfectly cooked, like I'm sitting at their kitchen table. Don't forget the mac and cheese! Well, there are no words; try it for yourself. We absolutely LOVED our food and can't wait to order again. If you want or need a comfy, home-cooked meal, look no further! You will feel cozy soon enough after eating dinner from here!

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.Time - Pink FloydSince Huffman's Bbq closed I have been on a quest to find a go to soul food spot. So far Hard Knox Cafe is my favorite. Superior Soul Food is the latest spot I tried. You order online, schedule a pickup time, drive-up and they hand you your order over the fence. Ribeye steak was backyard bbq style. Was cool watching one of the owners cook it in the backyard. I liked the flavor which had a hint of sweetness. Big piece of beef!7UP pound cake had 7UP and a buttery flavor. Sadly my slice was day old and the flavors muted. One side was hard while the rest of the slice was fluffy. I ate around the hard part. I imagine this would be a great dessert when fresh.2nd visit I tried the chicken wings and tenders. Chicken wings were fried in a crunchy batter. Chicken was tender and juicy. I loved the flavor of the batter which had a mix of salt, pepper, and a bit of sweetness. Chicken tenders were tender and not dry. The crunchy batter was a bit different from the wings. Instead of the sweet flavor there was a slight spicy flavor.I like the old Victorian house Superior Soul Food is located in. I'm impressed by the delicious fried chicken wings. I miss eating at restaurants as I could have sent the day old cake to the kitchen. I did report the issue and was told it wouldn't happen again. "Trust but verify"I miss Huffman's. The scent of fried chicken filled the air. There were old video games to play while waiting for my chicken. I miss eating at the old formica tables that reflected the history within those walls. This is review #1000. I've been posting on Yelp for 10 years. It's been a wild time, especially 2020. Here's to the next 10 years.

Saturday: I had the BBQ Chicken wings, macaroni cheese, greens, & cornbread. Sunday: Slap Yo Momma Tenders, Macaroni Cheese, Greens, Yams, Rice & Gravy, & Cornbread.Robert you did your thing!!!! Derrick thank you for the laughs! I love that it's Black Owned and the service is amazing, wait time was non existent. If you're like me and cannot eat pork, it's clean!!!Yes, it's clean and all made from scratch. You're going to love it and definitely return. They are definitely not stingy with the servings either, which is a plus! Make sure to check them out when you get a chance you won't be disappointed.

Superior Soul Food is another local business that is strictly operating via online ordering from their website. After placing an order, you arrange a pickup time between 3 and 9 pm. The location of where to get your food is actually a residence in the Logan Heights neighborhood just northeast of I-5.The Signature Plate ($12) was made up of chicken tenders, mac 'n cheese, collard greens, and a cornbread muffin. For the same price, you can build your own plate (one entree, two sides, cornbread muffin) which was what I did. The other entree choices besides the chicken tenders were fried chicken wings, BBQ chicken wings, and lemon pepper wings/tenders. The three sides in addition to the two listed in the Signature Plate were green beans, red beans 'n rice, and candied yams.My picks were the BBQ chicken wings with red beans 'n rice, and candied yams to go with the cornbread muffin. There were five pieces of chicken bathed in a sweet BBQ sauce. I most enjoyed the red beans 'n rice which consisted of kidney beans slow cooked in a combination on chicken broth, beef smoked sausage, onions, bell peppers, and a house spice mix. The candied yams were sweet potatoes cooked in a mixture of cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, molasses, and vanilla. The sugary mix was a pleasant contrast to all the other savory goodness.Even with the yams, I bought a peach cobbler from the list of desserts to save for another time. The other available selections were banana pudding, mini lemon cream pies, and mini sweet potato pies. For the amount of food I received and the flavor of each item, I gave Superior Soul Food a four star rating.

Saw this place pop up on my Instagram today, and decided to pull the trigger on trying it after seeing their Mac-n-cheese! I really wanted the wings but they were sold out so went with tenders instead. They don't have a storefront for sit down or dine in yet, just pick up and delivery options which is fine. Ordering online was super easy, and you get a lot for your money. However they season this lemon pepper chicken is EXACTLY WHAT IM LOOKING FOR. It's so flavorful. I can't wait to actually get an order of wings next time. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside. Mac n cheese was good too. I'm picky about Mac's and like to see some pepper in mine, and always add hot sauce, but this was good on its own. Had I not been impatient and waited to warm it up at home, it would have been even better! Would have been a forkful of gooey goodness. Will definitely be back to try all of the wings!! Support local small businesses. If you're looking for some soul food close to downtown/Sherman heights area, you won't be disappointed!

This place showed up recently on Maps near our house. We ordered online using the website (they really recommend using the website) and drove to... a dark house? We called, and they said they'd bring the food right out. A few minutes later, we got the bag of food. Let me tell you, it's really good. The Lemon Pepper and Slap Yo' Mama Chicken Fingers are excellent, as were all the sides - mac and cheese, collard greens (yum), and red beans and rice... all delicious.Turns out the place is run by a Navy chef and opened during the pandemic. A new black owned (and veteran) business to support that will hopefully gain great success!

I stumbled across this place after googling soul food restaurants in San Diego. I found this place months ago and never got around to going, until my dad who is from out of town, inquired about soul food restaurants around here.I remembered this place and told him to go try it out and asked to bring me a plate because I wanted to try it too. Haha The food was on point! It was super easy ordering online. Very professional and food was packaged well. I had the red beans and rice(my bad...I ate them before taking a pic), greens and some lemon pepper wings. Also, had some corn bread. All was yummy! My dad had the same order as well as some Mac n cheese. Everything was well seasoned and flavorful. I usually make my own soul food but there are days where I just want to enjoy having a meal prepared for me without being the one to cook. This place is def my back up for when I'm not in the mood to cook and craving soul food! Definitely has recommendations

Superior Soul Food is a local home-based, black-owned business in the Logan Heights area specializing in Southern style comfort food. They are located at a residential address, run by a professional chef and have all of their health certifications.Every single thing I tried blew me away. If you like soul food (and let's be real, who doesn't?!), you NEED to try the the soul foul burrito from Superior Soul Food! The burrito was so unique and satisfying, and the mac was super cheesy and creamy. Everything was on point!!

A few questions before this review begins:- do you like soul food?- do you enjoy supporting small businesses? - do you want a break from cooking but still want a taste of home cooking? If you say yes to any of the questions above, please do yourself a favor and check out Superior Soul Food! I had originally heard about this via Instagram late at night when I was hungry. The next day, I looked up the details and loved that Superior Soul Food is a small local business that specializes in (guess what) soul food. Since March, my husband and I have been working from home aka cooking a lot of our meals and we always welcome any opportunity to opt for take out while supporting local businesses (win-win!). The process couldn't be easier and it is very COVID-conscious. We ended up getting two items: 1) Signature Plate that comes with chicken tenders, collard greens, mac and cheese, and a cornbread muffin and 2) Build a Plate (lemon pepper tenders, mac and cheese, red beans and rice, and a cornbread muffin. Both were absolutely delicious - the tenders were crispy yet not overly breaded, the side dishes packed a ton of flavor....no complaints at all! A few things as related to COVID-19 (review written in October 2020): 1. The process is VERY easy. Online orders only and you will get a text when it is getting prepared and ready for pick up with address provided. 2. Employees were wearing masks and gloves. 3. No sit down or dining in option; it is only take away.
