Submarine Tender

So, I was tipped off by a friend about this hidden gem in Forest Park called Submarine Tender. They gave me some sage advice: order extra, toss it in the air fryer the next day. At first, I was like, "Really? A sub? In the air fryer?" Spoiler alert: GAME CHANGER.We went all in and ordered a corned beef super submarine (with the works, of course), garlic butter fries, and washed it all down with a fruit punch. The sub was packed like it was about to go to war, and trust me, it won. Each bite was a glorious symphony of flavors that slapped my taste buds into submission. The garlic butter fries? Yeah, let's just say they could probably end world hunger if we shared them--but why would I do that?Now, here's the deal: the space inside? Small. Think cozy... if cozy means rubbing elbows with the walls. Parking is limited, so bring your parallel parking A-game. And oh, there's no restroom inside--don't even think about hydrating too much before you get here! We were so excited to dig in, we ended up finding a local park, popped the trunk, and had ourselves an impromptu picnic on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Chicago summers, am I right?Fast forward to day two, I followed my friend's advice, popped that bad boy in the air fryer, and... WOW. It was like the sub had a spiritual awakening overnight. If you haven't tried this place yet, you're really playing yourself. Don't be stupid, just go. Highly, highly recommended! Cheers to more summer sub adventures!

I work in the area and was craving a sandwich for lunch. I came across this place here on Yelp, and saw good reviews, so I figured why not try it? I got the club sandwich in the medium size (it had a different name but I can't remember). Sandwich was great, but definitely was a lot of oil on it, so maybe I'd ask for light oil next time. I waited no more than 5 minutes for my sandwich so that was good. Ambiance is not great.. definitely not updated or decorated in an aesthetically pleasing way, but that doesn't bother me as long as the food is good and it is clean. I'll definitely try it again since I am in the area!

AMAZING FOOD! I've been coming here for over 20 years and they are still some of the best food in Chicago. Everyone I've brought has become regulars. People ask me where I got those BG fries, they need to get some of their own.I gave one less star because, even though they have remained solid on the food and prices, they need to consider ditching the styrofoam cups for drinks. But I get it, inflation is already killing us all and it's hard to remain a small business with fair prices.

You CAN go home again!This was our go to after party spot when I was just just a kiddo and the butter garlic fries are as good as I remembered.

Came in for some late night subs after a festival visiting Chicago. This place was right next to our Airbnb. I had the pastrami sub with everything, and they gave us some free fries while we waited. Everything was amazing and very fresh. The food came out very fast as well.

I use to frequent this late night spot. I usually get the turkey sub, a BG fry and/ or a gyros because I don't frequent the area anymore........All of which are delicious.........But I was in there 3 days ago and I ordered a turkey sub, a BG fry and a gyros. I saved the sub for lunch for the next day, so I didn't immediately realize that the turkey sub was in fact, a ham sub. I don't eat ham. I was very disappointed. With in the last week, I'd been in there twice. I don't live close, so you could imagine my disappointment. Since this has never happened and I don't live in the area, I'm not sure when I'll be back.

Omg this place was to place to eat at for me at about 5 years ago. Subs were good! Now they should be ashamed to call this a sub...more bread than anything! Smh the cheese sticks were still good but most go for the subs!

I find that most restaurants that are on the way back from my work commute going home get good reviews. From a perusal of many reviews, they are from locals who are sentimental/nostalgic about this as a local "hole in the wall" type of "greasy spoon" restaurant that is open late but has decent food. Kind of like Gene and Jude's in River Grove (though this restaurant gets a lot better reviews). The Alpine restaurant also is top notch for subs.Though I am relatively close to this area, I only found this place due to my research (see above), so I don't have any of this nostalgia. Still, the reviews of this place were decent, so I decided to try them. At this point, about half a year after I found them, I have already tried them three times.Yes, I agree with most people that Butter Garlic fries are one of the best things on their menu. That said, that isn't saying much. The fries are heavily seasoned, and the seasoning is delicious, but otherwise, the fries are super greasy and just standard thin fries, nothing to write home about. Of course, I am aware that if you visit this place after 12 AM and are in a certain state of body/mind, I am sure this place would be much more delicious, and you might be much more thankful and joyful.You would think that with their name the submarines would be the best thing on the menu. You would be surprised though because again the submarines are sub-standard. The one exception is the bread which usually seems fresh, tasty, and crisp. However, aside from the bread it was some tired and stringy sub-standard cuts of lettuce, tomatoes the same, and cold cuts of meat. A bit of condiments for some taste round out this lackluster affair.If you are in the area and got nowhere else to eat sure give this place a try. If you are dr*nk off your a** sure you got nowhere else and you won't have the capacity to care or check reviews so go ahead.

Paid an extra $1.40 for cheese on my gyro plate and didn't get cheese. 2nd time in a row they messed up my food. I won't be back.

The cashier was totally rude and didn't pay attention to anything I was sayingThe sandwich was OK
