I was devastated to find that they are closed for the span of my trip in CA. Growing up, their pork buns were my favorite!

This bakery has apparently been around for a very long time and yet, I'd never stepped foot inside until this morning. It's located in an old "plaza" downtown. Right in front of the shop was a little old lady in a wheelchair, sitting in the sun, greeting and waving at people passing by. I don't think she had anything to do with the business but she was cute. The bakery itself is very small with very limited items in a very small glass cabinet. It's also cash only and I had to walk across the street to pull some out from an atm. The old woman working was nice and moved very slowly because well, she's old. Then a man and his two children came in to help. In my opinion, I thought the items were a bit pricey for what they were, ranging from $2-$3 a pop. I thought the savory items had an overall decent, homemade flavor but there was nothing special for me. The steamed pork bun meat to bun ratio was disproportionate but the flavor was good. It was also more dry than I expected. And, the biko (brown colored sweet rice) tasted like soap and plastic which was a huge turn off. I handed the lady a $50 bill in which I asked beforehand if she would accept and she said yes. She walked in the back then came back with two $20s and a $10 and asked me to pay with that. It was a little puzzling but I did as she asked. The total was $36. After she handed me my change, the man that walked in earlier asked her, is this all you have left?! You just opened! Then I left feeling awkward haha

When I was a kid going here on a Saturday was a big treat and as far as I'm concerned, it's still the ONLY place to get a steamed pork bun (or bao as we call them). The bun is soft and fluffy and the pork filling is not too sweet like many other places I've tried. Absolutely delicious except I could probably eat two or three...This tiny bakery is located in the Filipino Plaza and I believe they are still owned and operated by the same family since they opened which I think is really cool. Definitely a little gem in downtown Stockton.

If you're looking for one of those authentic, hard to find, Filipino bakeries, look no further... My grandfather used to take me to this bakery as a kid and it has been the scale I use for judging steamed pork buns ever since. In my 30 years of stuffing my face, this bakery I will always hold near and dear to my heart. We used to fight over (and still do) who got the last bun from the coveted pink box tied with gold twine. Each bun is filled with succulent BBQ'd pork, enveloped in a light, fluffy, and warm bun. Her rice cakes are pure perfection. Each one lightly sweetened to where you just can't stop eating them. Beware though! She only makes so many each day, and closes shop when she's sold out (which happens quickly!!) Call ahead to reserve your buns ahead of time, and make sure to bring cash. It is CASH ONLY!!!

Perhaps I am too cheap and/or used to the typical asian bakery prices, but I thought this place was expensive for what it is and medicore. I got a steamed pork bun for $1.75 and it was pretty small, about the size of a dinner roll. The filling was unique. It was like the dried pork you eat with porridge, but very moist. I guess it was alright, but I'd rather get a char siu bao that you can get for .75 at most asian bakeries...The other items were around $1.35, but all for a small piece. It didn't look too appetizing to me. It included sesame balls (the ones you get at dim sum), shu mai, hai gow, rice crispy looking item, and some cookies. By my calculations, most dim sum places give you 4 shu mai/hai gow/sesame balls for $2.20-$3? For 4 of those here, it would cost $5.40? Pricey.....

Stopped by after a visit to the Filipino Center, and decided I give the bakery a shot. I loved how welcoming the lady was in the store. Very helpful, the awards I seen on the wall told me of a commitment to Stockton. I believe I saw 50 years of service, hats of to the owner. Beyond the historic nature I was wowed by the simplicity of my pork buns. The meal on the surface seems standard but after the first bite I was amazed. Anyone interested in supporting local business needs to come by and support!

Went back after not being in town for a few years. The prices went up but the buns that we used to Absoluteky Love have changed. They're about half the size the used to be. We arrived at 10:10 am on their first day open after two days closed and the steamed buns tasted old. Very disappointed as we spent almost $100 to bring some back home and share.

This is the ultimate hole in the wall, mom and pop, family run bakery. Was a little disappointed in the Pork Buns that I had heard so much about from friends, because they were quite frankly burnt or over cooked on the day I went. She did notice that and discounted the Pork buns, but will have to try it again to see if they are as good as mentioned. The pork dumpling were delicious. The staff was polite and look forward to trying it again.
