Turlock Museum
Took my mother in law, a Turlock native who had never been to the museum.

As far as museums go, it's not the most titillating for educational information that we'll carry in our day to day lives. However it's free, located right in down town and can easily be walked through in about 10 minutes (30 if you stop and read everything) It's great to read about our little town and how it came to be and get its name. It's nice to see a section dedicated to the Portuguese and Assyrian communities. The old artifacts are always good conversation starters. The old soda shop display is probably my favorite display. The ladies who volunteer are wealths of information with deep roots in our town ready to give more background or give recommendations on more to do in this town. The last time I saw the museum was in high school (2012) and it was a time capsule through the ages. The way it looks now is more focus on Turlock and I find that a nice direction to go in.

While it's not very big, this small museum has a nice collection of artifacts from Turlock's past. Several former Turlock businesses have items on display, as do various schools, the hospital, churches and much more. Among my favorites are items from Turlock's former bowling alley/bar/restaurant Devine Gardens that closed in the mid 90's, and old photographs and maps of a pre 1900 Turlock. It's not a a place you'll spend hours in, but if you have an interest in the area's history it's worth taking a look at.

The Turlock Historical Society Museum contains a large collection of artifacts from the city's past. As you walk in, there is a collection of typewriters on display. On the floor is a ditto machine for those old enough to remember dittos. You can get an up close look at a telephone booth, a rotary phone, and an early refrigerator. A soda jerk station is also lined up against the side wall. There are calendars from over 50 years ago hung on the wall, as well as a collection of military patches and too many other items to type in. Most of the items on display are not in glass display cases. So if you have young ones who do not understand and follow "look, but don't touch," the Turlock Historical Society Museum will have to wait until they are a little older.Admission is free, but they will gratefully accept donations. The museum is open:Tuesday and Thursday, 11 am to 3 pmSaturday, 1 pm to 4 pm

It was fairly small but pretty nice collection of old antiques. I felt as if I were in a antique store. Very nice & my little boys enjoyed it.
