What a find! This cottage was spotlessly clean when I checked in last week after a long day of hiking at Yosemite. I arrived just after 9pm and even though the office closes at 8pm, Raj was welcoming and friendly. If I didn't have to rush home the next day, I would have gladly stayed for a dip in their pool and a hike around their 60+ acres. Even before my departure I'd already recommended Sugar Pine Ranch to several friends and family members. This gem is close to Yosemite's entrance off Hwy 120 and makes for a wonderful overnight spot for those of us who only have the day use passes at Yosemite during the pandemic. Thank you for your hospitality, Raj!

I just came back from a stay with family at The Sugar Ranch, a large 60 or so acre property near Yosemite and the quaint town of Groveland. The 2.5 hour drive from the Bay Area was not overly exhausting and quite enjoyable. The geographical area itself is a natural wonderland with more than enough places to explore. The inn, though extremely secluded in the country, is conveniently located a few miles from Groveland and the amenities the town offers. During these wild times in the middle of mass hysteria and a global epidemic, this sanctuary situated on a large parcel of land was like a travel to a more simple place and time. Gazing at the dark night sky filled with the vast array of brightly lit stars of the galaxy is timeless, reminding us all to enjoy the simple things in life while gaining universal perspectives. We had 3 cabins total. They each had a nice extended deck to enjoy sipping coffee on. My cabin was larger than expected, with two separate living areas and a jack and jill bathroom setup. It worked great, coming with 3 beds and a fridge, for my wife and I and our very active 3 and 4 year olds. The VHS with Disney movies for the kids were a nice rustic throwback which vibed perfect for the experience. The L 'occitane premium bath amenities are a nice touch for those who are particular about these things, or not. The large pool added to the feelings of weightlessness and were a refreshing escape from the hot weather. Cool added bonus that wells situated on the property provide the water. The owners and hosts were very gracious and accommodating. It was fascinating to hear that a local prominent judge owned the property at one time. The history of Hetch Hetchy and the SF 1906 quake, leading the city and county of SF, oddly enough, to run some of the infrastructure in the region was also quite a trip. I noticed certain government vehicles as such too. The owners plan to slowly develop the property over time, while still keeping the classic country charm. I can't wait to come back over time to get away and see the changes made! Maybe next time I'll make smores by a fire!

Loved loved loved our stay here!!!! Excellent if you want a true getaway from the world and technology this is the place for you... No tvs and internet only if you request this will encourage you to get outside or enjoy face to face time with the people you are traveling with. We stayed in one of the deluxe cottages which was super clean and we had our own private deck, a jacuzzi tub and a Vermont style fireplace. The owners live on property so it's very clean and well tended and they are super friendly. Definitely recommend and looking forward to returning in the future.(Found this little gem online while planning a visit to Yosemite Valley (about 45 minutes away.. But well worth the drive considering the cost 140.00 a night versus over 300.00 closer to the park)

Super awesome place to stay for your trip to Yosemite National Park! It's about 1 hour to Yosemite Valley and 2 hours to Glacier point. You could go to glacier point first and the valley. My friends and I stayed at cottage 6 & 9, no refrigerator, hairdryer and water boiler by request. The room is clean and there are L'OCCITANE toiletries. Wi-Fi is about $3.xx, the speed is not fast. The owner Craig and Elaine are so nice and warm. "where the traveler is a stranger but once." just like the quote on their website. We will stay here again next time!

Sitting in a tiny room with no TV no wifi. Not really rustic and not really comfy. Just really mediocre. No breakfast, no coffee. Annoying host with shitty recommendations as to what to visit.Overpriced, for that price throw in some wifi. But no ya need the extra 5 bucks.

I loved loved LOVED my stay at the Sugar Pine Ranch. The bf and I stayed in Cottage 3, which I think is supposed to be one of the roomier cottages. It was very clean and well kept. The cottages are pretty simple: bed, table with two chairs, some simple games, a fireplace, and a porch with two chairs. No refrigerator in the room, but a communal guest fridge is available in the main house. There is a fireplace in the room, which can be controlled by the thermostat. We made the mistake of falling asleep the first night with the fireplace set to "on", and the room was blazing hot! There's also an A/C unit for those hot summer days. There's plenty of outlets in the room, in case you can't "unplug" from life, with plenty of spaces to plug in two phones, a laptop, and probably more if you wanted. There is no TV. No cellphone service (or minimal if you are lucky enough to pick up a signal). No landline in the cottage. Wi-Fi is available for an extra cost.Other relevant things: The bed was comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was pretty good. The toilet water pressure was definitely super strong. We were here during the off-season unfortunately, so we didn't get to enjoy the complimentary simple breakfast that gets delivered to the door. We also didn't get to enjoy the lovely-looking pool at the top of the hill, surrounded by all forest trees. There isn't another property nearby. The town of Groveland is about a 5 minute drive west, and the main gate to Yosemite is about a 30 minute drive east. Overall it felt great to be surrounded by nature and to take a little break from life.In addition, I think the price was pretty comparable (or lower) than the other places within a 10 minute driving radius.

What a gem! The cabins sit on 60 acres at the edge of Stanislaus National Forest. It's exactly 20 miles to the Yosemite entrance on Highway 120. The owners, Craig and Elaine, are sweethearts and do all they can to be welcoming and helpful. They directed us to a wonderful Mexican restaurant 5 minutes away for dinner. We were heading out at 3:30am the next morning so Elaine put an electric kettle and tea in our room and packed us a bag with protein bars, apples, and the most delicious blueberry muffins from the local bakery, Tangled Hearts! They have a huge pool and many places to just walk and explore. The beds were super comfy and everything was just spotless. They even have a fridge on the back porch that you can use if you're planning to picnic like we did.As much as I'd like to keep this place a secret, Craig and Elaine deserve the kudos!

You arrive here and you get such a warm welcome by the hosts! They help you with the directions and a choice of a restaurant! The style is really country side ranch. Bed is comfy. Their pool at the top of the hill is huge! Perfect spot to watch the stars at night. No lights around it's pitch black. They offer you a nice breakfast delivered at your room at the time you asked. Too bad we just stay one night here.

Sugar Pine Ranch was a very nice, clean and well maintained cottage. It was beautiful sitting on the back deck amongst the trees. The modern touches such as; chargers available on the nightstands, single coffee maker for pods and the ease of checking out, made our stay very nice. I would recommend this establishment.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to stay in Yosemite Valley. Traffic was just terrible, and the drive that was supposed to be less than 3 hours was more than 5 hours. My kid was excited for a swim in the pool; so we were in a big rush to check in and get to the pool before dark. I had completed their online registration where I filled out all the needed information in advance. I can't speak to their administration process, but it appeared that while they received my registration, they did not receive any of my information. The woman who checked us in spoke painstakingly slow and repeated everything we said rather than responding to it. She wanted me to sit (after I was driving in traffic for 5+ hours) in a stuffy room with cats (I am highly allergic to cats) and a wall of "Trump" stickers while slowly and carefully hand writing all the information which I had already proved online. The process took 25 minutes. Yes, I clocked it.The property itself is completely beautiful, and the pool phenomenal. Our room was clean, pleasant, and well equipped. The breakfast was perfect -- quick, delicious, excellent quality food.I managed to make check out a little faster than checking in. The problem there was that somehow the prices had increased by ~20% with "fees" that hadn't been mentioned before. I'm actually writing this review now because I came across my credit card check-in receipt for the original amount quoted. It seems to me unnecessarily deceptive to charge one thing at check in and then add a bunch of additional fees (not for anything we had done or consumed, just "standard" fees) at check out.Next time, we'll try someplace else.
