My husband and I have been to the Green Toad Inn twice now - both times were for accommodations during a whitewater rafting trip on the American River. I cannot recommend this B&B enough. The food is unsurpassed, the rooms are beautifully appointed, the beds are comfortable, the grounds are lovely and the location is convenient.THE FOOD:The first morning you will be served the most delectable french toast of your life, along with scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. The second morning will likely be a spinach and egg quiche with graham cracker puff pancakes, apple cake and shoo-fly pie. Each breakfast begins with a parfait of fresh fruit, yogurt and granola. Accompanying each meal is also orange juice, grapefruit juice, coffee, tea, home-made oatmeal, and a long list of other thoughtful accouterments. Oh, and the best part...eating on the deck while you look out over the sweeping lawn and listen to the various water features and birds chirping. You sit there, immersed in the majestic pine forest that surrounds the house and think, IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! As an aside, the inn-keeper also baked us fresh cookies and left them out for us when we returned from our rafting trip. THE ROOMS:The rooms and the home are plush and beautifully appointed. Most have private baths, but if you are in a room that doesn't have its own shower, don't worry. There are plenty of washrooms throughout the house and you never have the feeling of being hemmed in or crowded by any other guests. I have stayed in both The Toad Abode and The Nest and both were outfitted with robes, slippers, ample towels, water bottles, chocolates, a hair dryer, shampoo, etc. The room you choose to stay in will determine whether you spend more time on the deck or in the interior of the home. Both are spectacular and by no means exclusive. However, some rooms open onto decks and others open to the inside of the home. Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong. THE GROUNDS:With over a hundred acres (with trails), a pond, a natural spring and towering pines, the grounds beckon to be explored. If you're not a natural-born hiker, the grounds can be enjoyed from the multiple levels of decking that "bedeck" the house. In the evenings, there is nothing more inviting than donning a swimsuit, robe and slippers and heading out to the hot tub for a dip. Grab a bottle of water or soda from the fully-stocked guest fridge and a homemade cookie and you're set. THE LOCATION:The B&B is about 15 minutes outside of town, but that is in no way a downside because of the privacy it affords. Honestly, you will feel like you are on top of the world.

This is by far the BEST bed and breakfast experience I have ever had. There was a bit of trepidation on the curvy, windy, swervey drive up to the middle of nowhere... but after settling in, my, did I feel bad for even doubting my choice! Yvonne is such a great host. Her bed and breakfast sits on 45+acres of wilderness. The bed and breakfast itself is HUGE and very relaxing. Each guestroom has its own cute theme to it and very comfy tempurpedic bed! The breakfast was delicious: my husband said it was the BEST french toast he has ever consumed (he had THIRD helpings)...Everyone is so nice at this B&B, it felt like a beautiful getaway. Do keep in mind that it is in the middle of nowhere! A great place for retreating from the hustle and bustle of daily living.I highly recommend this B&B and will definitely be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I thought this place was going to be "grandma's house-ish" as in dusty, wallpaper-ish, and one step from a skilled nursing facility - but I was totally wrong. It's super cozy. Yvonne is a great host. I was also apprehensive because you have to make a reservation with her on a lan line or by snail mail. She also sounds really old on the phone so I thought she might "forget that I am coming." Turns out Yvonne is very hospitable, super sweet, and on top of her shit. It's a bit in the middle of NO WHERE, so you have to bring food or go into the town (Placerville) for a restaurant. Other than that its a hidden gem of a place to relax, enjoy the woods, etc. Too bad my company was a "buzz kill." Other than that I had a great stay in the Toad Abode Room. **Ribbit!!**
