Tomorrow it will be two weeks since we left Shangri-La. That is what I call the Cottages at La Honda Park. We stayed at in the Welcome House South. A very comfortable and quiet little cottage. Although, the bathroom was huge with a walk-in shower. There are no tvs in the cottages and the WiFi is a little dodgy. Cell phone reception isn't the best either. I think what I am getting at is that you can really disconnect when you say at La Honda Park. You are forced to communicate with your loved ones. The cottages are only equipped with a microwave. If you want to cook something more robust, there is a communal kitchen in the pool house. Believe me, it has everything you need. Also, there are bbqs in just about every common area. Aside from the beautiful grounds and comfortable accommodations, there is the barn. The barn is probably the best part about this place. It has a foosball table, a pool table, poker table, dart board, and a tv. The back doors slide open to a small seating area overlooking Angel Creek. I can't describe it. You just need to experience. The owner are Jenn and Barr. They were so nice. Once we checked in, they left us alone. In fact, they left the property. Besides my family, there was another family staying in the Main House. They were very nice and welcoming. I can't wait to go back and sit next to the creek and drink my morning coffee.

This place is a hidden gem! We went for a couples getaway and was so impressed by the property and our cottage. There is so much to enjoy that you can basically hang out the whole day enjoying the beautiful scenery. We're going to be planning another trip soon and next time plan to bring our kids.

Where to begin? This place is amazing. Two miles off the main drag in Murphys lies this amazing property consisting of 5 cottages and a main house that can be rented for overnight stays. There is a beautiful barn where you can socialize: games, TV, pool table, poker table, dartboard, foosball complete with a fire burning stove. I stayed in Grandma's house; a restored but rustic looking cabin with a fridge, sink, microwave, gas burning stove, CD player and a claw foot tub. BBQ's, Pool and full kitchen available on the property to use too. It was cold when I was there so I didn't really get to use the outdoor areas much but a creek runs right through the property and there is room for picnicking and enjoying the outdoor areas too.

At first, I didn't want to write a review, because this is the kind of place you want to keep secret. A gaggle of girlfriends rented three cottages here, as three of us were celebrating our 40th/41st birthdays. The perfect "home base" for staging an attack upon Murphys downtown shopping, dining and wine tasting establishments, or as a leap-off point for local hikes and the gorgeous Moaning and Mercer Caverns. Each cottage is appointed with a gas-fueled faux wood-stove fireplace (easy operation via thermostat), fridge, micro, coffee maker, basic silverware/plates/cups, wonderful showers (great for power-washing off the mud and sweat after a day of rappelling and spelunking!) and extremely comfortable queen beds. Each cottage has its own character, giving the feel of the kind of decor a favorite aunt might select for your family's personal mountain cabin. Extremely clean and comfortable! Hang out by the fire, or chill out on your own front porch overlooking the lawn and creek. Or......head over to The Barn, a communal recreation room appointed with an air-hockey table, pool table, kitchen area (including a wine fridge!) and big-screen satellite TV/sat radio. The Barn was recently remodeled, using reclaimed barnwood, corrugated metal (for the ceiling sub-roof) and a pretty brilliant wallcovering that looks like warm old plaster, but is actually recycled craft paper and some sort of natural varnish. Cool! Also, a few relics from the region's mining days. There are board games, darts, books and other stuff to keep the individual, family or small group entertained. There's a large swimming pool (unheated in winter) and a small wading pool adjacent to another community kitchen and outdoor picnic area, and the only thing this area lacks is a hot tub. (Hint, hint!) Finally, there's Cosmo, the biggest, sweetest cat you'll ever want to kidnap. He's not allowed in the cabins, but he'll happily keep you company as you read a book on the porch, or wander up to the beautiful waterfalls behind the barn. He'll also keep score if you want to use the bocce court or horseshoe pits! Parking is limited, so don't expect to haul in ATV trailers or your RVs, but that's about the only con to this wonderful little family-run resort!

This is a wonderful little gem of a place that's in a really pretty part of California. Granted I visited here for the first time in the middle of a beautiful rainy season so everything is green and waterfalls flowing and it's breathtaking. The cottages are very sweet, with thoughtful touches that you may find at a relatives home you were visiting. Jenn who owns La Honda greeted me when I arrived, is really kind and knowledgeable about the area. I stayed in Grandmas Cottage because I wanted a claw foot tub. (It's a really good tub and a cute room and exactly like a grandmothers room) flowered bedspread and pink touches throughout, it was fun for two nights. The fireplace was nice to have and the rain falling outside at night was really magical. The barn is a big space with a pool table and poker table. Made me wish I'd come with a group of friends. I used the kitchen and it had a decent array of items to cook with as well as a good stove. I'm including photos of the exterior that shows the minors cabin and the barn, as well as the exterior of Grandmas cottage.

If you are lucky enough to be at La Honda....you are lucky enough. La Honda Cottages make you feel like Jenny and Barr left you the key to their vacation home. The time, hard work and love they put into creating this magical place is evident everywhere you turn. The cottages are charming, comfortable and well appointed. The grounds are stunning - babbling brook, beautiful gardens, bocce, horseshoes, even a pool and pool house. Cats and butterflies seem to drift in and out of your day. We sat out by the pool, played bocce and wandered the grounds. Inside The Barn we played fussball, darts and yahtzee. We had a local chef deliver dinner for my man's 50th birthday. But the best moments we had were sitting by the creek with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee in hand, simply enjoying this incredible space. And only 3 minutes from the coolest small town in America, Murphys (which I am lucky enough to call home)

What a delightful mountain getaway. There are a number of cottages to choose from all have microwaves and small fridge with a mini kitchen equipped with dishes, silverware and coffee maker. The grounds feature a stream running through the property...gushing on our visit. Other amenities include barbecues, picnic tables, grassy areas to spread a blanket, swing set, bocci ball court, and swimming pool. Oh can't forget "the barn" which is gathering place to play pool, take in tv, surround sound music, tables to play cards or board games or just "chill" by the fire. Place would be great to take over for a family party week or weekend.

Great place to get away. Let's hope it stays a secret from the loud, partiers, and remains a place for real grown ups to get away to. Barr, and Jen couldn't be more accommodating. Peaceful, and they really do get some good guest. Glad we stumbled across this.
