Way, way up the river in red neck country, is a great sailing club by the San Jouaquin river. Every year, the Stockton Sailing Club hosts one regattas that draws sailboats up the river without a paddle - the Delta Ditch Run. The race starts from Richmond area on the San Francisco Bay and runs up San Pablo Bay into Carquinez Straits then pass the moth ball fleet at Suisun Bay to Pittsburg and Antioch and then wind your way into the San Juaquin River tributaries until you are just 15 miles from Stockton. I've only sampled the food during events, so I can't say what normal dining is like, but I'm sure it is served in a friendly and competent manner.

I have had my Freedom 30 "Jacqueline" slipped at the Stockton Sailing Club for over 11 years now. I can honestly say its one of the most wonderful places you could keep you boat. Although I am an SSC club member I don't participate too much. I spend my work week in the Bay Area so its hard to get as involved as I would like in social activities. The harbor itself is a quiet, extremely calm, and of course, fresh water, oasis connected to the Stockton deep water channel by a narrow (but very navigable) entrance channel. This serves well to dissipate large powerboat wakes before they enter the harbor. I don't believe in my entire 11 years at my slip I have ever seen a wake much larger than a couple of inches. SSC is just west of the exclusive Brookside community and some lucky homeowners there have a view of the harbor. In addition to being a beautiful harbor, SSC is in a great Stockton location. On a calm early spring or late summer day the harbor is magical. Dead quiet with exception of the birds. Masts surround you, if you are a sailor, it doesn't get any better than this. The sailing is great too. Although you would think the narrow channel would be a problem for sailors, its actually bigger than it appears when you are on the water. A self tacking jib is desirable because you will be tacking more than normal but as you sail West, the channels widen out and you get spectacular open water like sailing starting seven or eight miles west of the club.I will take two or three trips yearly to the Bay and beyond. Typically I will depart in the morning and steam to Frank's track where I always run into a good morning breeze. I'll set ail at that point and sail on up into the bay. I usually shoot for China Camp anchorage on the first day and that takes about eight or ten hours most of which is sailing and usually pretty spectacular sailing at that. After that its bay ailing or out the Gate to HMB, SC, or Monterey. Have not yet gone north. In any event, if you want to keep your boat in fresh water, love quiet afternoons and an unhurried pace and a generally super environment, SSC is the place.

To add to Robert H's Review: "Learn to Sail 2010" mission is to promote sailing in young people by making boats, time and expertise available to them on an ongoing basis with adequate financial support. The program will teach good sportsmanship, and will encourage competition and innovation in all aspects of sailing. If you have a young aspiring sailor on your hands or know of a young person that you are mentoring or could use a skill like this, contact the club or get involved. It will be an investment in the future. http://www.stocktonsc.org/L2S/index.htmlhttp://www.stocktonsc.org/

Very friendly, active and clean club with nice facilities. Great view from the clubhouse of the sunsets and the famous Delta Ditch Run race. It's also affordable. I live South of Santa Cruz so I don't visit much, but it sure beats the bay area traffic and weather.

Contrary to Sailor R, Docks are not in that bad of condition, few people have fallen, and sailors are know to drink a little. Lots of great fun and a lot of very nice people. And why would power boats want to be at a sailing club?

I miss this place so much. In 2009 I had a CAL 31 berthed here and was a member. The members and staff are very welcoming and helpful. The dining area and Bar is always clean, there's internet, clean bathrooms and an huge kitchen stocked with food! It's definitely worth the membership and I plan on returning soon.
