This is the best of the fishing experience you could want. We hooked plenty of salmon on Monday. The Captain put us right on the locations best for the salmon. The experience was worth the price of admission and makes for a great long day. They even stayed a little bit longer to try and land more since we were hooking them. See their Facebook page for Monday's trip. They provided tips along the way as well to help kick ass fishing!!!!!P.S, salt, pepper, lemon, garlic, olive oil, parsley, butter slices, and brown sugar on the grill for 350 for 15, covered in foil top and bottom with skin on. Doesn't get better than this.P.S.S. look up their history, they know what their doing and best in fleet. Well worth the value! Thanks guys- I'm coming back....it was a farm to fork experience you made possible. Well worth the investment. The previous post smoking from Captain comment was B.S., along with the bad shirt. Didn't see that, must been from competitors.

First before I forget I would like to thank Capt Jared for responding to a reviewer that asked about seasickness.I have experienced this on deep sea trips in the Gulf and Atlantic.By taking medication the night before and in the morning I was able to have a ten hour fishing trip with no issues.Thank you captain Jared. I booked my trip for my daughter and I while we were staying in San Rafael for Thanksgiving.I read the negative review here and and yes people do smoke and the head is what you would expect on an older boat but that's what you get for the price of what we call in Texas a "party boat".As a former smoker I can understand some people having issue with that.I would say save your money until you have enough to go on a private charter and then you can dictate your needs. But now for my review. We had a great time.It was my daughters first fishing trip by boat. The deck hands,Paul And Tommy were very helpful. My daughter was asked to help with the crab count which made her feel more involved. This was a combo trip so we picked up crab traps and fished. There was plenty of time for fishing even though picking up the traps took some time.Everyone benefited from limits of Dungeness Crab.YumThe fishing for rock fish was great.Like on all fishing trips there are those that catch less but every one left with the limit of ten.Between my daughter and I we must have caught 25 fish.We weren't taking any fish home so we divided our fish amongst those that didn't get 10 so they would also have there limit. All in all it was a great trip.I would recommend to take the SaltyLady to anyone, just take into consideration what I mentioned in the beginning of this review. Thanks again to the captain and crew. One final thing is people need to tip the deck hands.Give what you can,but these guys are there for you.Even if your an experienced angler and don't need there help they are still there to serve you.

Incredible day on the bay with a wonderful crew that made the day fun and memorable!I love adventure and new experiences so I joined some friends to go aboard the Salty Lady and try our luck at deep sea salmon fishing. I cannot wait to go again!!The weather, the views, the wildlife, we are all marvelous! The crew was a little disappointed in the days fishing, but to me, we did just fine! Each of the four in my group caught at least one fish to bring home and I had never felt more exhilaration than when someone on the boat would yell, "Fish on!" and Tommy the deckhand would spring into action with a "LOOK OUT!!" as he dashed over to help the angler reel in their big catch. The entire sport fishing world was something I knew nothing about but captain Jared and his deckhands answered any and all questions I had.Tommy even filleted our fish for us once we got back to the dock and took some great pictures of us holding up our fresh dinner! I would recommend you come with an open mind and be ready for adventure! Be prepared for any kind of weather and don't let the trip defined by how many fish you catch. The whole experience is worth every penny, whether I caught my weight in salmon or not. I caught a great day and an unforgettable experience and that's all I wanted out of this trip. Thanks to the Salty Lady crew and I look forward to going out on the boat with you guys again soon!

While the views were great and the fishing was good, I was less than impressed with the boat and the crew. Upon boarding the boat, you noticed that the vessel itself was dirty and old. The bathrooms were kinda gross and the whole boat stank of cigarette smoke from the captain. Besides the smell and the second-hand smoke effects, the captain smoking made me quite anxious, as fire on a boat is a worst case scenario. Another aspect of the crew that really bothered me was the deck-hand's attitude and clothing. The shirt he wore was vulgar, and he made me feel stupid for not being a master fisherman. Would I recommend this? I guess. Did I have fun? Yes. Did I wish a few things were different? Absolutely.

I recently went on a crab combo on this boat with my boys. We had a less than stellar day in terms of productivity as we were the only boat in the fleet that did not reach limits. That happens and is part of fishing and not a result of the crews' efforts. The "Pros" of the trip is the boat is nice, the captain seemed good and the crew worked hard pulling in the crab traps. The "Cons" relate to the attitude of the deck crew (there was also a pinhead deck crew who was very pleasant so my comments do not apply to that crew member!). After dropping several crab traps we headed off to the fishing grounds. When we got there I rigged a bucktail on one of my dropper loops. One deckhand said, "you aren't using that are you?" I said I was and he said "we prefer you use shrimp flies". I asked why and he restated "we just prefer you use shrimp flies". I still used the bucktail, as did my boys. We all had respectable catches with one of my boys limiting on his own and my other son and I bagging 7-8 fish each. Our fish were as big, if not bigger, than the guys around us using shrimp flies. Still not sure why bucktails were so disliked by the crew, but the condescending attitude was not appreciated.Once the fishing was done the crew asked how we wanted our fish cleaned. We asked for "gill and gut". The crew said "filets" go first and that they will do our three bags last. I asked where I could leave my bags and they told me to hang the bags on a rod holder nearby, which I did. Afterward I went inside to be with my boys. Before finishing the fish cleaning the boat had arrived at their crab traps and began bring them in. They also needed to recover the traps which are stored on the deck. Once finished the deck crew returned to cleaning fish. When it looked as they were finishing the filleting, I went out to get my 3 bags of fish to gill and gut but only 2 bags were there. They had been moved to make room for the crab traps that were stored on deck with apparently 1 bag being misplaced. I asked the deckhand who had told me to put them there where they were and he said he did not know. After going through several rounds of frustrating Q & A with the deckhand he said, "Look, the captain should have said to watch your own bags because we have had this problem before. It's not our responsibility. I don't know what to tell you, man." The other deckhand said he could spot us 10 fish from the community bag (used to round out limits for anyone who did not make their 10 fish limit). I said I did not want to take 10 small rockfish (6"-8" fish) and pay $30 to have them cleaned . . . This offer was nowhere comparable to the amount of fish lost but the fact that I turned it down seemed to upset that deckhand.I find it frustrating that I did exactly what the crewman told me to do. And when the problem was identified he immediately threw the captain under the bus by stating the captain "should" have made an announcement about watching your own bags (I don't remember the captain making that announcement, the crewman couldn't confirm it was made, and he was the one that gave the mandatory safety speech and fishing plan at the start of the trip and he didn't make that announcement!). Besides, if the crew has experienced this issue before they should be working on finding a solution. Since the bags are plastic, a Sharpie can be used to mark the bags, or they could use tags like other fishing boats. I've never had this problem and I go on 10+ boat fishing trips a year with my boys. I am not writing this review to recommend for or against going out on this boat. Each fisherman needs to make that decision on their own. The fact that the boat did not limit is also not being held against the boat/crew . . . It's a part of fishing that fishermen understand. The reason I am writing this review is to share the fact that deck crews are the front line in customer service for a sportfishing boat. They share their fishing knowledge to help their customers get more fish, work to keep everyone safe onboard, and provide pay services such as cleaning fish. All of this should be considered when it comes time to provide a tip (which is an important part of deck crews' income). Hopefully the captain and crew will appreciate this point from a paying customer. To have caught a bag of 7-8 fair sized rockfish, then have it lost because of the defacto policy, then state "I don't know what to tell you, man" and reflect on the $250 fare for the opportunity to have all that does not leave a good taste in one's mouth! I am hopeful they can improve on the customer service aspect. If they are having a repeat issue then work to finding a solution they can control (putting it on the customers is not a good method). I know some on the boat really like this boat/crew, which is good. But for us, we'll choose to go on the other boats that operate all year out of Fish Emeryville rather than going on this boat again.

I've been deep-sea fishing only a few times before, not for a few years, and never for salmon. We had a great day of salmon fishing, despite partly overcast weather and not quite catching the limit. The captain and crew are excellent: very knowledgeable, skillful, and personable. Highly recommended.
