Amazing sunsets and a really beautiful view of the Sacramento River and Tower Bridge! If I lived in Sac, this would definitely be a spot that I would frequent on the regular. The Riverfront Promenade has a large walking and biking path that takes you alongside the Sacramento River. I stopped by the promenade on my way home from Feather Falls, and the views here are worth making a stop off to see. Along the path, you'll find several placards with little blurbs of information about the history of Sacramento and the Tower Bridge. The trail seems to be really popular amongst local walkers, runners, and bikers. You can find paid parking right in front of the promenade and there's a larger parking lot right across the street. The trail also connects to a small pathway that will take to underneath the Tower Bridge. It's a great spot to view some of the boats up close that sail across the river. This path also runs adjacent to the old steam trains. There are plenty of benches overlooking the river and the Tower Bridge. Picture taking opportunities are endless! If you can come here during a sunset, do it! The sun setting amongst the Tower Bridge is absolutely priceless. At night, the bridge lights up and you'll have a perfect view of the glowing bridge from the promenade. I would just be careful of your surroundings because I did spot a few homeless people hanging around asking people for money. Would highly recommend a visit to this promenade if you're in the Sacramento area.

Recently stayed at the Embassy Suites Riverfront, right next to the Tower Bridge and the Promenade. Throughout the day, this paved pathway served walkers, joggers, cyclists, and folks who don't seem to have anywhere at all to be. Several plaques and signs teach little tidbits and factoids about the history of the adjacent Sacramento River. For the patient, there are some birdwatching and nature viewing opportunities from the Promenade-- I saw at least a dozen bird species, and two different types of water turtles basking on floating debris and flooded trees.Recent rains have flooded the Sacto river, and there are huge logs, branches, and other assorted floating debris heading downstream to the delta. At night, the Promenade's whole dynamic sort of changes... There are few, if any, joggers out there, but some of those folks with nothing to do from daylight hours seem to still be skulking around. Near the front of the hotel, I saw a fellow punch another man to the ground and steal his backpack, while his delightfully traileresque female companion shouted racial slurs at the fleeing attacker. Stay classy, Sacramento.I'm not sure how far this Promenade goes in either direction, but the little piece near the bridge seems to be ok, at least during those Vitamin D daylight hours.

The Riverfront Promenade is a bike/walk/run path that lines the Sacramento River near the Tower Bridge. I found myself walking and exploring this path each day. I enjoyed it so much, I needed to create a listing to let you yelpers know. I would start off walking from the Bridge, there are several historical plaques along the way to read about the history of the Sacramento Riverfront. The area was once filled with Manufacturing plants and railways. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XAEq31xHx6Ytaewobw22bQ?select=8Hu0TYhpjb0XE05_99JMEAThe trains would import and export goods throughout the state. I walked about 2 miles down the Riverfront Promenade when I discovered the old Ghost Trains. I am not talking about the Railway Museum, I am talking about Rusty Old Steam Trains sitting out in the middle of the track. So I hopped aboard! As exciting as it was to be on the train, thinking of how things once were - it wasn't budging. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XAEq31xHx6Ytaewobw22bQ?select=UPNej0h5Sbst8DOqyjzsXgThere are several benches, chairs and places to sit down and grab some sun. I sat there for hours, not saying one single word to anyone, enjoying my day and relaxing. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XAEq31xHx6Ytaewobw22bQ?select=nxbV6GzKQ5f7KctBlmPfAgIt's an excellent place to ride your bike, walk or run. The weather is pleasant and the views are beautiful. Now that you know about this place, get outside and have some fun.
