Visited a couple times and I can say this:Great, attentive maintenance staff who really listen, take their time, and do things well.Swim team who puts on a great event and has great results. Up to date facilities.Ample parking options thanks to the street it's on.Ongoing attempts to modernize or keep up with demands.I have no idea the value for the money, I feel that's relative. If it's worth it to you, you'll go. If not... make a friend. ;-)

Had my first visit today at Rio Del Oro Sports Club! My GF is a member here and has been talkin' bout meeting up and I'm SO happy we finally did! For my first workout I attended Amber's: Strength and Balance class which was awesome! Amber's great at correcting form and pushing you to go hard - I love it! I felt so strong after the class and seeing my calories burned made it all worth it. I would highly recommend Amber's class, if you wanna workout and sweat!Overall the gym is great! There's a decent size cardio area. They offer a ton of classes from cycle, yoga, barre.. they have it all! The gym itself is a great size and it's clean. I feel that the members here actually like to workout and it shows, lol. Check this place out, chy'all! Strong is the new sexy!

Today, I walked by the jacuzzi and there were 15, yes 15 kids in there with two adults. And no rules about this other than "kids must be accompanied by adult". I'm concerned with the new surge in the Delta variant of Covid 19 that this is quite disrespectful, if not outright dangerous. I wish I knew that the Rio Del Oro sports club is more like a kids camp than a sports club. I get that kids need to play but there should be clear hours of adults only time. This was like being at a damn summer camp. Then one of the members actually informed me, it IS the summer camp!Boo Rio Del Oro!Where do the adults play Tennis and swim in Sacramento?????

So far we really like our new club. Pro tip: don't book the lane right next to the kids pool. The kids just jump in it and you have to go up to them and use your stern voice. I never had kids, so I just say "Stay out of the grown up lane." This has worked so far. I love the cardio room. I prefer my cardio room tv to just be cooking shows or other innocuous viewing like sports. But I do like the club because there's someone for everyone.

First of all, Rio del Oro has great swimming facilities including an 8-lane, 6-lane, and 2-lane pool. However, if you want to use any of those facilities before or after work at a reasonable time, this club is NOT for you. They consistently have both the 6-lane and 8-lane pools blocked off from 5:30 AM - 8 AM and again from 3:30 - 7:30 PM for swim teams & masters swimming. So you are essentially paying ~ $130 to only be able to use the pool at off-hours.I previously spoke with management about this, and his response was that they scheduled groups during this time so that more people could access the pool during peak hours. However, the swim teams that use the pool are NOT members and if you're not interested in master's swimming, you're out of luck as well. It's such a high price to pay for such limited use of the facilities.

I have been a member of the Sparetime Family for almost four decades. I begin at Midtown Atletic...then when closed...moved over to Natomas Racquet Club (now gone as well). I later took my membership to Rio del Oro when I moved to Sierra Oaks. For years now I have hoped to see an improvedment in the overall facility; new equipment, showers and locker area as well the outside lounging areas. Besides paint and some new carpet, the club continues to be old and outdated with equipment that is tired as well. With hopes that the club would find a renewal, I have continued to pay approximately $250 per month....month-in-and-month out. Even through COVID I ....never halted my ACH payments in support of the club. That said, I never sent a thank you for "sticking with us" email or any sort of outreach by the ownership.I stopped going some time ago after realizing that nothing was going to improve. So....last week I went in to cancel membership. That process took about two minutes and consisted of a form with little to no conversation from the person behind the counter. She didn't ask the reason or ask me to reconsider or even look up. I'm sure that one member's departure is probably insignificant to Sparetime. That said.... I'm tired of the approach ...."hope springs eternal"...as I waited for something to improve.

This is my third review. I had to give one star to write this review. I would give negative stars. After repeated requests to management, the Swim Coach, Richard, and my reporting Rio Del Oro for health violations during and after Covid, there is no response. Rio Del Oro got into some type of trouble because the horrible manager, Joe Rose, apologized to me. Before the apology, which I do not believe was heartfelt, he yelled at my husband and me for bringing health concerns to his attention: kids running on the swim deck, no parental oversight (read my prior complaints), kids swimming in the hot tub, young kids in the hot tub sometimes with no parents around, kids jumping in the adult lap swimming lanes, many kids and parents not respecting the lap swimming and/or hot tub rules. My husband and I are leaving after more than 30 years.Today, 3 sets of parents would not get out of the 6 lane lap swimming pool when lap swimmers wanted to swim because a kid had vomited in the kids' pool. And yes, we raised our two girls there. So I decided to tell them that many lap swimmers were upset and I volunteered to say something. They all basically told me that I was rude. I was matter of fact, not rude at all. An older woman who I did not know told me to stop saying anything because it was Sunday? If you are a lap swimmer, DO NOT join Rio. It is like a public swimming pool with no rules! If you are a parent who does not care about others, go ahead and join. This is the place for you.Hopefully, no child will drown in the hot tub or pool or get seriously injured running on the pool deck. That was my biggest concern: SAFETY!

If I have my dates right, believe I first played there in 1972. So over fifty years ago. And have played at Rio ever since. Fine tennis club with other activities including swimming and workout facilities. Has always been well run and definitely kept clean. Finding a completive match at my playing level is pretty easy. The club is just top-tier, which seems to be the standard for the entire Spare Time organization.

I've been a member for about a year. The 50 years this club has been open show in the layout of the workout room...tight, poorly conceived. My main peeve is that in the summer this is more akin to a day care center for kids and teens than a swim facility for adults. Mornings are exceptionally difficult to get a lane and weekends are booked with swim meets more often than not. People are nice and there is a community of regulars, but they can't use the facilities at normal times during the summer. I guess it's great that kids are getting into swimming...just not great for me.
