Field by parking area.

We hiked this area on 4/3/24. It had rained the weekend before so think spring time conditions. I'm sure the area is vastly different in the summer or fall. This park is ran by the Bureau of Reclamation. It's free to enter, but "free" usually means there are not many services. There is 1 large parking lot. We got there at 9a and there was already a lot of cars. The 1 bathroom is a permanent outhouse with a sink. Ladies, I'd bring tissue with you just in case. There was no ranger station that I could see. The website says no first aid is available in the park. The parking lot has a lot of potholes I wouldn't take a low car. This is a day use location. No camping.Cell service was very scarce so have your map printed out OR downloaded to your phone. Verizon did have a bit of service on the trail. You can ride horses here, which the trail we mistakenly took would have been great for riding. This area has a ton of wildlife although we didn't actually see any live animals. We did see wild pig & bobcat tracks. There were lots of wildflowers in bloom. Streams all around. The Serpentine Loop Road trail is flat-ish. You can also drive a bit and park further into the trail. There is a small parking area. We THOUGHT we were on that trail but we quickly found we were not. We got to the top of the hill which was nice: beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding area. I enjoyed this hike but I would only go in the springtime... not in the summer unless you like dry vibe. Definitely bring a lot of water in your packs. There are no water fountains.
