We've been talking about trying out some kayaks on the Petaluma river for a while and we finally decided to do it. What a great experience! With six of us (including three kids and a dog), we needed two tandem and two single kayaks. The guys at Petaluma Paddle were great. On the phone, Drew helped me figure out what we needed - at the river, Chad was super helpful and got us going quickly. We were in our way. About 40 minutes later we made it to the turning basin where we docked and then walked into town for lunch. The timing was perfect, left at around noon as the tide took us up the river and on the way back the Petaluma wind was at our back. Glad we finally made it out, was great to see Petaluma from the river. Will definitely be back!!

Keith was so helpful and friendly. I called him at about 8:45 and asked him if I could have a tandem kayak at 10. He was ready and able to accommodate me. I tried their online platform, but such with online reservations, it doesn't work so last minute. I really appreciate that he was able to accommodate my last minute desire. With a 2hr rental and a 9 year old that wasn't much help, I made it to downtown Petaluma in an hour. The way back, going down river, was easier and we returned within 35 min. I texted him when we returned and venmo'd the payment. Easy peasy

Yelp doesn't only help when you're hungry. It helps when you want to be active as well. Today we decided to try something new. Something we've never done before. We decided it was going to be Paddle Boarding. I called Petaluma Stand Up Paddle earlier in the week to get the low down. Jessica filled me in on how things operate. Today, I got the pleasure of meeting Jessica and Drew the owner. They got us all set up and have us a tutorial for us newbs. We rented our boards for $20/hr Or $65/day.They offer downwind paddles and other guided tours in their 2 other locations. Paddle Boarding seemed very novice. Anyone can do it. And you should do it especially if you're looking for a good core and upper body workout. You can paddle into Petaluma and have some lunch and paddle back. We did paddle twards town but never made it all the way. I think they said it was about a mile ? Along our paddle, we saw Blue Herons and Egrets hunting for their lunch. We watched as they caught and ate the fish. While we paddled, a parade of ducks joined us in the paddle. There were so many birds everywhere. We also saw jellyfish in the river. That was unexpected and neat to see. On the way back, the Smart train passed right in front of us. The passengers on the train waved as we waived back. We will be back and will hopefully bring others along with us. THANK YOU DREW AND JESS AT PETALUMA STAND UP PADDLE:-)

Fun, unique | Not my favorite location to SUP$$This is definitely a fun and unique thing to do up in northern California. How often do you get to SUP next to a downtown? Family friendly. Great for all levels. Easy to find with plenty of parking. Shop is nice. Lots of different types of boards for sale.Bathroom is in a separate building next to the dock.Rates are the same rate just about everywhere else. We did $20 for an hour. Not really my most favorite place to SUP because the water is pretty disgusting and murky. We paddled by a bunch of tiny dead crabs. (more the reason NOT to fall in the water, haha) But, it was neat to see parts of Petaluma that you've never seen before, or at least from a different perspective. Don't expect to get any guidance at all if you tell the person working there that you've done it before. They assume you know exactly what you're doing even when you've told them you've been out once. SUP is really not that hard to do/ learn, but dude, no one remembers which part of the board is the front when they've done it once / twice. Folks in Tahoe set it up for you already. I guess I compare all other SUP companies to those in Tahoe/my experiences in Tahoe. Tahoe is really the best place to do this.

My new favorite place to rent SUP. Friendly, helpful, and so easy to rent from. I had no idea this gem was tucked away here. I love Petaluma and this is the best way to visit. Paddle up river, have lunch, drink a beer, eat pie, do some boutique shopping, and float back to the marina. Buy a dry bag because you're going to find a lot that you'll want to spend your money on in downtown Petaluma.

I went here with my son on a Saturday with a travelzoo voucher and the owner seemed quite nice and personable both on the phone and on site. First off the address has not been updated however the lady in the flower shop didn't mind sending us to the right place not far away. Drew gave us his biggest, most sturdy kayak, strapped in the seats which were quite flimsy for someone over 300 pounds. He was helpful getting us in the kayak and telling us where we could paddle and sites to see however he did not adjust my seat so as to make the experience enjoyable at all. He did let me know that if we went to Petaluma and got out, I would probably not be able to get back in on my own. My son, who just turned 14 was really enjoying the kayak so even though it was a terrible trip that we had to cut in half for my sake if my son can go out by himself I would probably take him back here.We went looking for some endangered geese or pelicans that had been spotted and just saw murky water and a floating dead fish. People fishing from the shore and a couple of big boats on the shore.

Thank you for providing this fun adventure for my daughter and I. The headwinds were strong heading toward town, but we cruised on the way back. That was my first time paddleboarding. I will definitely do it again.

Full disclosure I did not use them. However the reason I did not use them because they charge for a four hour half-day rental which is ridiculous for Petaluma. Very much tourist pricing
