lake
Drive in view
Photo from oak knoll side site #26. Super low water level this year. There are boats out... but we sunk a boat here when it had water. Lol.
Reservoir up close view. Muddy waters. Warm to the touch that day.
That is not mud. Those are tiny leaches!
My poor husband...had leaches everywhere! And I mean...everywhere!

It was amazing to drive in and see the size of this lake! Its massive! Great for boats and water sports. However, we don't recommend getting in the water. My family was covered in leaches! Not a couple...but a couple hundred! Ew!

It was nice to get out on a Sunday and enjoy some relaxing time with the family. We had a barbecue walk down to the muddy water and just enjoyed seeing other people out and about with their friends and families as well.I have never been to this location so it was nice to visit somewhere different. It is very much so dry out there as we actually witnessed a large fire that took place out there. The water levels very low but it's pretty much everywhere throughout California. The area that we were in was wrinkle sure location. There are a few picnic tables as well as a two person restroom non-flushable just a hole. The fee to park on the location is five dollars would you utilize a automated machine. There is not someone available to take the monies. While we were visiting the Ranger did drive by a few times making sure that anybody parked there had their admission ticket posted visibly on their vehicles so they are enforcing payments. All in all as mentioned , it was nice to get out and see somewhere different. Saw lots of geese out as well and 1 deer in the bushes

Booked a site for two days at Acorn Campground. Check in was fast and efficient with the Army Corps of Engineers Ranger. It went down hill from there. A large extended family arrived and began play Banda music throughout the night beyond quiet hours, yelling and screaming all night, and not respecting the boundaries of our campsite. First thing Saturday morning, the music was on again and their children were screaming and yelling. We asked the Ranger to move our site to one over the ridge that was shielded from the noise. I don't understand the concept when you go camping you need to bring and play amplified music whatever your culture. The birds, critters, and squirrels chirping should be enough. I favor a ban on any music in campgrounds. Until we moved, the experience was hideous.

Had a lot of fun in the water. We camped there for two nights and we had a great time. Very quite and bathrooms are clean.

A calaveras gem ... other than the water management of the lake ... and that being owned by the city of stockton as an irrigation lake, meaning the lake levels start draining quickly after June.Still, there is plenty to do, or do nothing and just enjoy nature.
