I highly recommend fishing out of Berkeley Marina on the New Easy Ridder. My friend and I have been out on this boat twice now -- we came back with limits each time. I have been out with 2-3 other boats from Berkeley in the past -- those boats did not catch limits even as boats around us reeled in salmon after salmon. Joey Gallia is determined to find fish for his customers. He and his crew are friendly and skilled at coaching and assisting clients through landing fish. Their operation is super efficient, very friendly, and oriented to customer enjoyment and satisfaction!

As a small business owner, and a devout fisherman, it pains me to write this. It is hard to make a living fishing. But I have been fishing on salmon charters since 1970 and I have never seen such a bad operation. I really can't tell if it is the boat's leadership or one employee (deck hand) going off the rails on many fronts. I fished for years with Al Sancimino (Carrie) out of Fisherman's Wharf. Al trained Jacky (Wacky Jacky) which I have also fished with many times. Although I was partial to the above Captains in their day, I have also fished many other boats. I think the Captain (Joey) of the New Easy Rider is a really good captain as to fishing but that does not equate to running a good business. I own restaurants and know what customer service and employee management is and I would never the tolerate or do what I describe below.Hostile work environment - Joey has two deck hands, Coop and Tiffany. Both knew what they were doing. Coop was clearly more skilled and experienced but Tiffany was far more customer centric. Coop, on 3 separate occasions, started screaming at Tiffany in a hostile and demeaning way. He brought her to tears. After the 1st incident, I took her aside and told her "You don't deserve that". She said "I am fine but thanks". During the day, he commented to me his displeasure with her and inferred women should not be out here. I personally think it is awesome for women to join a previously male-dominated positions. After the third incident, I approached her and reaffirmed his behavior was totally unacceptable and she thanked me and got teary-eyed. If she wanted to make a claim, I would be her star witness. That said, I am not a fan of this type of legal action. I prefer the boss to "right the wrong". Joey, as a business owner, is now on notice to mitigate this unacceptable behavior. If I had a manager treat my female or any employees like this, I would fire them. I have done so on numerous occasions.Boat pole - I would never put a boat pole in a prime location (stern) blocking other paying customers from taking that location and taking fish from paying customers. That pole caught 4 fish (incl some hogs). Regardless, my experience over 50 yrs of fishing is the boat pole is to help the boat make limits and give the hookups to those who have not caught fish. But despite me telling Coop that my 12 yr. old son has never caught a salmon, Coop gave 3 of the 4 boat pole hookups the boat pole to Doc (a regular) despite Doc catching 2 fish on his own pole. Doc was fishing next to the boat pole so you could argue it was a convenience thing due to his proximity but my son was fishing next to the boat ole on the other side. He also gave Cathy (another regular), the other hookup, despite her catching 2 fish on her own pole. In my experience, if a boat pole is deployed, it is done so in the bow and given to those who have not caught a fish. I got skunked and have been skunked many times in my life. No big deal. I could care less. I was solely there to get my son a hookup as he has never caught a salmon and missed the tuna trip his brother and I went on last week in Mexico where we pulled in 54 fish and almost 1000 lbs. of tuna. Coop knew that as we left the marina, but he still gave the boat pole hookups to those that have caught many fish in their life and many fish that day. Luckily, my son hooked one late in the day and got his 1st salmon. In my past, if a customer brought kids, we would always give the boat pole to a kid of they had not caught fish. My son even said, "why does he keep giving the boat pole to people who already caught fish". At the end, he offered excess fish to anyone who had not caught a fish giving a 2nd to some who caught only 1. He excluded me for whatever reason even though he knew I did not catch a fish. I think it was because I defended Tiffany.2 hour detour to get gas - when you say returning at 3-5p, you should also disclose "we are going to stop fishing early so I can get gas and I will take 2 hours of your time to gas up". This the 1st time in 50 years I have experienced a captain gassing up on the customers' time. I had the 1st day of school the next day for my two sons and had a lot to do. Minor point and likely exacerbated because I wanted off that boat so much.At my restaurants, my regulars are golden but not at the expense of other non-regular customers. If the company directive is to take care of the regulars, they met their goal. I am sure the regulars will keep going as Joey knows how to fish. For non-regulars, avoid this boat. There are many good choices.Agree with Freddie G.'s comments on this thread.I miss Jacky and Al and love the gang at Fish Emeryville.

Just had the best Father & Son trip Ever! We boarded the New Easy Rider Sport Charter last Saturday@6am with 14 friends & spent 11 hours in the San Francisco Bay fishing. The captain & crew was extremely helpful in providing proper equipment & safety for a truly delightful experience. Our group caught 3 large Chinook Salmon as well as 4 smaller rockfish & blue fin. This business was not yet posted in Yelp yet they have a facebook page for more contact information @ New Easy Rider Sport Fishing. The fishing experience was fun & suspenseful. Yet, the picturesque scenery of passing by Alcatraz island, the Bay Bridge, Koit Tower, cruising under the Golden Gate Bridge & appreciating the natural beauty of the California Pacific Reef Blue Waters coastline was a once in a lifetime memory. Tips: My son & I did not suffer from nausea, however others did at the start of the trip due to choppy waters. Consider anti-nausea medication 1 hour prior to boarding, acupuncture/pressure point wristbands, packing saltine crackers, apples & gatorade as we did. The charter allows outside snacks, food & drinks which brought more camaraderie amongst all on board :-)!

Although my trip was dampered by the fact that I was seasick for the first few hours of the trip, I would be willing to give ocean fishing a second try with this company. That said I will have to warn anyone who thinks they might get seasick because once the boat leaves in the wee hours of the morning it will not come back until the end of the day even if you get sick. I feel I should also pass on a piece of advice given to me by one of the employees on the boat who suggested taking drepamine (sea sickness meds) the night before and again before getting on the boat. I took them as instructed on the box (one hour before boarding and again when getting on) and was very sick. Anyway, because I like to fish and had a good experience with this crew, I am willing to switch up the med regimen and give it a second try. In terms of the actual fishing, this was my first time ocean fishing out of a boat and I was lucky enough to come back with a pretty good catch which made the trip worth it. In total I brought in a decent sized salmon, a cod and 4 smaller fish which unfortunately I cannot identify but which I've been enjoying for dinner (NOMNOMNOM). The crew was great, they were super helpful with getting your pole baited and set up and were also ready to net your catch every time. This is something because there were probably close to 20 people on the boat and only 2 crew members (plus the driver, but he mainly just drove). I could tell they also have very good knowledge of the San Francisco bay because they took us to a number of different fishing spots and I think everyone on the boat was able to catch something by the end of the day.

Took my 6 year old grandson out on the New Easy Rider on Saturday and we had an excellent experience. The fishing and the weather was good which always helps but the real experience was with the crew. Captain Joey and Coop were the best! Very informative and very helpful throughout the entire trip. These guys rock!

First time on this party boat and I was questionable on the reputation as I fish on my own boat and see them out there many years. However, now find the team/boat way better than expected. They the crew are a class act. The skipper and deckhands went way out of their way to try to help out people. I was fishing on the bow and watched the skipper come out and help everybody out. We had a long boat ride to get our Rockcod, but the skipper spent more time than necessary to get us our limits on the lingcod. He went the extra mile to make everything happen. We arrived back at the dock around 6pm to make sure we all had our limits. Definitely would go back on this boat again. Pleasantly surprised.

This was my first deep sea fishing trip ever along with my 14 year old son and it was just AMAZING !!!!!! TRULY AMAZING !!!!! I didnt know what to expext as I've ben wanting to go on a trip like this for awhile and finally went on July the fourth the day after my birthday and im so glad we did. I chose New Easy Rider Sport Fishing Charter Service . Captain Joe and his crew was just the best. They were extremely helpful from start to finish assisting me an my son as I had no previous fishing experience but with their knowledge of where and how to land some big fish we were catching fish left and right and it was just awesome. All i can say is halfway through the trip my son was fishing like pro and after i sent the photos of the huge haibut and bass we caught to the rest of my family and friends back in Sac we've decided to plan a trip for everyone to come and experience what my son and i have experienced. Thank you Captain Joe and Crew of New Easy Rider Charter Service for making this such a memorable trip for me and my son look forward to doing it again very soon !!!!!~

The captain is ok ! But it is overall very unprofessional outfit Especially, the deckhands are very rude and unprofessional. They play favoritism when they hook a fish and give that away to old timers or who comes at the boat often or close relatives and friend. The stupid deckhand made comments on my perfect fishing poles and reel which is perfectly good and refuse to help me when I had issue.Overall is a stinky outfit ! Stay away from it ... Go to Emeryville much better fleet and professional staff

A Great Charter Service. We do business with this boat and supply them with only the best engine oils to keep the boat on the water and reliable at sea. They do not cut costs on their equipment and only buy the best. Safety and reliability are their main concerns. Keeping the crew and guests safe while catching fish. The captain invited me out to show me what they do and better understand their conditions they operate under. Highly recommended for anyone seeking to try their hand at the sea. My family has fished with many charters in the bay, this is a professional outfit.
