Only a few rooms are modern, others dated but still enjoyed my stay. Love the prime rib at restaurants, plus friendly service. Staff went over and beyond call of duty for us. Darlene at front desk is always helpful and patient! Love how this hotel is at the center of town. Plus creek and park behind hotel is added bonus. My kid loved playing in water at creek. As did I! So relaxing..

Nicely upgraded, modern rooms. Both the mattress and pillow were quite comfortable. And the shower was great - roomy and with good water pressure. New AC unit, HDTV, microwave, and mini fridge.

Had a great time at this hotel. Went with a group of friends and we all enjoyed it. The rooms in the main part of the hotel were charming, but mine was a bit small. It's not a complaint, just something to expect when you go to an historic hotel. The staff was very nice, the restaurant in the hotel was very good. The bar was full to the brim with guests and locals. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Even though my room was above the bar, I really couldn't hear much. The upper floor was pretty quiet. The location of the hotel is great. There is no elevator in the hotel and the stairs to the second floor are very steep. If you have mobility issues, you might want to stay in their more modern rooms outside of the main part of the hotel.

I was raised in a family owned business and our customer service values are high!I am only reviewing the hotel and their customer service not the the restaurant. The restaurant was awesome.I love historic hotel's. I've stayed in many we stayed in the Mark Twain room which was very cool. The problem that I have with this hotel is that they didn't warn us about the party that was right directly across from our room. It went on till 10 o'clock at night with music drunk people, loud voices. They did warn us about the bar being open, but that didn't seem to be a problem. What was the real problem was from 10 till two in the morning there were drunk people that would be downstairs below our window, talking extremely loud, smoking, laughing yelling and yes, this went on till 2 AM ! There a few more things that occupy My over all complaint is that when u brought a few items to the attention of management the customer care is just not coordinated ! We should've been told about the party across from my room before booking. No one told us this. We should've also been told that there would be loud sounds outside our window at night until 2 AM. What I was told is that the bar closed at 10 this was incorrect information, and I was also told that the party shut down at nine in both cases, we were not given the information that we needed to be able to make a decision on whether we would stay there or not so we were stuck! This to me is not good customer care! Don't get me wrong I think it's a great hotel to stay there if you want to party all the Time, Not my cup of tea!

TASTY OR WASTEY?Absolutely tasty!!!Took a drive to Murphy's. By the time we got there, we we're so hungry. We walked into the quaint little hotel, and were seated outdoors on the patio. We had the summer greens salad (AMAZING) the best salad I've had in a long time. And, I eat salad at least 3xs a week. We shared the French dip, which was a perfect size for an early lunch. What a hidden gem. I would definitely drive back just for the salad. Our waitress was very nice, and attentive. I highly recommend this place.

Folks, this place is a complete rip off. Extremely dirty, noise from the salon below that went well into the wee hours of the morning. The staff was off-putting and unhelpful. There was a man in only his underwear, either drunk or drugged, trying to get into the room next to mine, jiggling the door handle for better than 30 minutes. I called the front desk from my cell phone (no phones in room) but just got voice mail. I was ready to dial 911 if he tried to get into my room. In the morning the staff told me there is no one on duty after hours. A hotel of roughly 30 rooms yet there's no staff on hand after hours. What happens in an emergency? Save your money, this place is a dump, unsafe, and the staff does not care about you. I was recommended to try The Victoria Inn, 209-728-8933.

I recently stayed here for two nights and on our last morning, we were awakened around 8:30am with a loud banging next door. The carpet was being replaced in the room next to us. Since our check out time wasn't until 11:00am, we had hoped to sleep in a little and take advantage of the room that we paid for. It was very disturbing in more ways than one. We quickly got our belongings together and went to the front desk to check out. When I expressed our disappointment to the front staff (Deanna), she immediately stated, "we have to get that room turned around for other people". There was no apology. I expressed my disappointment again, and said that it would have been nice to have had some notice or warning that you would be replacing carpet in the room next to us starting early that morning. Again, no apology was made just that they had to get the room ready for future customers. It appeared to me that as a paying customer I did not matter; even though we paid for two nights lodging, had dinner at the restaurant one night and drinks in the bar one night. She did eventually give us a 10% discount off one night which amounted to $21.00. I received a standard email from the hotel after our visit stating they hoped that I would share my positive experience on TripAdvisor or Yelp, or if I was disappointed with my stay to please contact the hotel and my concerns would be answered personally. So, I did email Brian per Deanna and I have never received a response.If an apology had been made, a little kindness of customer service I probably would not have left this review. Even though this hotel is in a great location for exploring Murphy's on foot, I will never stay at this hotel again, nor will I ever refer anyone.
